  • First Touch

    First Touch by Laurelin Paige

First Touch by Laurelin Paige is $1.99 at Amazon and Kobo! It’s also $2.99 at All Romance. I mentioned in on December’s Hide Your Wallet post. This is definitely on the darker side and does have a cliffhanger. Some readers had trouble connecting with the heroine, but many say this is a book that will grab you and not let go. It has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads.

When Emily Wayborn receives an answerphone message from her former best friend Amber, she knows something is seriously wrong. Emily hasn’t spoken to Amber in years, and when Amber uses a safe word in her message that Emily recognises — a word they always used to get out of sticky situations during their wild partying days — she knows Amber needs her help. But when Emily tries to find her, she discovers that Amber is missing.

Determined to track her down, Emily follows a chain of clues that lead her to enigmatic billionaire Reeve Sallis. Renowned for his shady dealings and playboy reputation, Emily is convinced that Reeve knows something about Amber’s disappearance. To try and discover the truth, Emily sets out to seduce him. But when she’s forced to decide where her loyalty lies, how will Emily choose between saving Amber and saving her heart?

If you devoured Fifty Shades and Sylvia Day’s Bared To You series, you will love the latest intoxicating, passionate and addictive novel from New York Times bestseller Laurelin Paige.

  • Marine for Hire

Marine for Hire by Tawna Fenske

Marine for Hire by Tawna Fenske is $1.99! This is more of a novella-length contemporary (a little less than 250 pages), but the rest of the series is also on sale. You can grab all four books for less than $10. The heroine is a divorced, single mother, who has sworn off men in the military. The hero is a great friend of the heroine’s brother (we know how that goes), who’s playing nanny temporarily. Readers love the heroine and her relationship with the people around her, while others felt the book was rather forgettable. Have you read this one?

She thought she’d sworn off military men for good…

Sam Kercher is every inch a wickedly hot Marine. Tall. Sexy. Lethal. When his best friends call in a favor, Sam is forced to face an entirely new line of duty—playing nanny for their newly divorced sister and her squirming seven-month-old twin boys. If Sam can dissemble an M16 in his sleep, diaper duty should be a cakewalk…right?

Unfortunately, Operation Nanny isn’t quite that simple. Sheridan has sworn off overbearing military men, so Sam must protect her from her dirtbag ex without revealing just how much he has in common with her brothers. Or that he’s been ordered not to touch her. Ever. Problem is, Sheri’s one hell of a gorgeous woman, capable of making this hard-bodied marine even harder. And Sam wants her bad.

Protect the girl. Care for the babies. Hide his identity. And keep his hands off. But even the most disciplined Marine has weaknesses…and Sheridan is one Sam might not be able to resist.

  • Hard As It Gets

Hard As It Gets by Laura Kaye

RECOMMENDED: Hard As It Gets by Laura Kaye is $1.99. This is book one of the Hard Ink series, which, according to GoodReads is about, “about four ex-soldiers who run a renegade operation against an organized crime ring out of the back of a tattoo shop.” Like you do. I enjoyed this first book, but agree with comments on Goodreads that it felt a little long. The other books in the series are also on sale, and I recommend reading them in order since there’s an overarching plot.

    Tall, dark, and lethal…

Trouble just walked into Nicholas Rixey’s tattoo parlor. Becca Merritt is warm, sexy, wholesome — pure temptation to a very jaded Nick. He’s left his military life behind to become co-owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, but Becca is his ex-commander’s daughter. Loyalty won’t let him turn her away. Lust has plenty to do with it too.

With her brother presumed kidnapped, Becca needs Nick. She just wasn’t expecting to want him so much. As their investigation turns into all-out war with an organized crime ring, only Nick can protect her. And only Becca can heal the scars no one else sees.

Desire is the easy part. Love is as hard as it gets. Good thing Nick is always up for a challenge…

  • American Gods

    American Gods by Neil Gaiman

RECOMMENDED: American Gods by Neil Gaiman is $2.99! This is also the tenth anniversary edition. Many readers love this book. I’m partial to Good Omens, but this one is also pretty good, though American Gods is way more creepy. Have you read this?

    A storm is coming…

Locked behind bars for three years, Shadow did his time, quietly waiting for the magic day when he could return to Eagle Point, Indiana. A man no longer scared of what tomorrow might bring, all he wanted was to be with Laura, the wife he deeply loved, and start a new life.

But just days before his release, Laura and Shadow’s best friend are killed in an accident. With his life in pieces and nothing to keep him tethered, Shadow accepts a job from a beguiling stranger he meets on the way home, an enigmatic man who calls himself Mr. Wednesday. A trickster and rogue, Wednesday seems to know more about Shadow than Shadow does himself.

Life as Wednesday’s bodyguard, driver, and errand boy is far more interesting and dangerous than Shadow ever imagined—it is a job that takes him on a dark and strange road trip and introduces him to a host of eccentric characters whose fates are mysteriously intertwined with his own. Along the way Shadow will learn that the past never dies; that everyone, including his beloved Laura, harbors secrets; and that dreams, totems, legends, and myths are more real than we know. Ultimately, he will discover that beneath the placid surface of everyday life a storm is brewing—an epic war for the very soul of America—and that he is standing squarely in its path.

  1. American Gods is so good! It was my first Gaiman book. I procrastinated reading it forever because I am a dreadful contrarian and any time somebody tells me I HAVE to read a book I just dig in my heels. Once I read it, it started me on an endless Neil Gaiman cycle that culminated in my happily dropping $150 for the Sandman box set. I own many of his books in both digital and paper formats now, but American Gods holds a special place for me.

  2. Vicki says:

I also love American Gods. I like the concept and also you can tell that Gaiman did his research. And the love between Shadow and Laura is sweet. I own and re-read it in hard cover but I am sure my kindle would be happier with its own copy.

  3. Sara Rider says:

I know I’m like a broken record anytime a Tawna Fenske book comes up for sale, but I can’t help myself. I adore her books. They are light, funny, sexy reads – perfect if you need a quick, angst-free pick-me-up kind of book. I re-read this series regularly.
