Just One of the Guys

Just One of the Guys by Kristan Higgins is $1.99! This is a friends-to-lovers contemporary romance and was recommended in the comments of a friends-to-lovers trope post. Many readers loved the dialogue, but found the ending and HEA happened rather too quickly. If you happen to like Higgins’ writing, a few of her other books are also on sale!
Being one of the guys isn’t all it’s cracked up to be…
So when journalist Chastity O’Neill returns to her hometown, she decides it’s time to start working on some of those feminine wiles. Two tiny problems: #1—she’s five feet eleven inches of rock-solid girl power, and #2—she’s cursed with four alpha-male older brothers.
While doing a story on local heroes, she meets a hunky doctor and things start to look up. Now there’s only one problem: Trevor Meade, her first love and the one man she’s never quite gotten over—although he seems to have gotten over her just fine.
Yet the more time she spends with Dr. Perfect, the better Trevor looks. But even with the in-your-face competition, the irresistible Trevor just can’t seem to see Chastity as anything more than just one of the guys….

Bad Romeo by Leisa Rayven is a Kindle Daily Deal for $1.99! I remember seeing this book everywhere, mainly because it has a pretty gorgeous cover. This is a New Adult romance where a hero and heroine have a bit of bad blood meet again during Broadway rehearsals. There is definitely a cliffhanger, but many loved the Broadway play setting. Reader Algae bought this book last time it was on sale and found it incredibly frustrating.
When Cassie Taylor met Ethan Holt at acting school, sparks flew. She was the good girl actress. He was the bad boy about campus. But one fated casting choice for Romeo and Juliet changed it all. Like the characters they were playing, Cassie and Ethan’s romance seemed destined. Until he broke her heart and betrayed her trust. Now the A-list heartthrob is back in her life and turning her world around. One touch at a time.
Cast as romantic leads once again, they’re forced to confront raw memories of the heartbreaking lows and pulse-pounding highs of their secret college affair. But they’ll also discover that people who rub each other the wrong way often make the best sparks.

About a Girl by Lindsey Kelk is $1.99! This is a chick lit book where a girl poses (heh) as her photographer roommate and the insanity that ensues. Readers seem divided on the heroine – some found her whiny, while others felt she was charming and relatable. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads. Have you read this one?
Tess Brookes has always been a Girl with a Plan. But when the Plan goes belly up, she’s forced to reconsider.
After accidently answering her flatmate Vanessa’s phone, she decides that since being Tess isn’t going so well, she might try being Vanessa. With nothing left to lose, she accepts Vanessa’s photography assignment to Hawaii – she used to be an amateur snapper, how hard can it be? Right?
But Tess is soon in big trouble. And the gorgeous journalist on the shoot with her, who is making it very clear he’d like to get into her pants, is an egotistical monster. Far from home and in someone else’s shoes, Tess must decide whether to fight on through, or ‘fess up and run…

The Chaos of Stars by Kiersten White is $1.99 at Amazon! Hopefully, it’ll be price-matched later this afternoon. This is a YA fantasy with a heroine who is the daughter of Egyptian gods, which is a pretty cool setup. Some readers found this to be a cookie cutter YA book despite the setting, while others loved the growth of the heroine from the beginning to end of the book. It has a 3.6-star rating on Goodreads.
Kiersten White, New York Times bestselling author of Paranormalcy, is back with The Chaos of Stars—an enchanting novel set in Egypt and San Diego that captures the magic of first love and the eternally complicated truth about family.
Isadora’s family is seriously screwed up—which comes with the territory when you’re the human daughter of the ancient Egyptian gods Isis and Osiris. Isadora is tired of living with crazy relatives who think she’s only worthy of a passing glance—so when she gets the chance to move to California with her brother, she jumps on it. But her new life comes with plenty of its own dramatic—and dangerous—complications . . . and Isadora quickly learns there’s no such thing as a clean break from family.
Blending Ally Carter’s humor and the romance of Cynthia Hand’s Unearthly, The Chaos of Stars takes readers on an unforgettable journey halfway across the world and back, and proves there’s no place like home.

Oh so excited—– Just One of the Guys is one of my all-time favorites!!!!!
AND I just saw The Next Best Thing (my OTHER favorite Kristan Higgins title) is also $1.99. Score!
I love Kristan Higgins books and there are 2 on sale? I’ve got a sister in law who’s getting some early birthday love on her kindle!!
About a Girl had a clever idea plot idea, it was humorous, believable and the ending was satisfying. I immediately looked for more of the author’s work.
Before I rush off to buy the Kristan Higgins book because KH rules all, I have to say I love both the cover and title of The Chaos of Stars. Just so pretty and evocative. I’m a total sucker for a great cover or title, so when there’s both, somebody take my money!
> Two tiny problems: #1—she’s five feet eleven inches of rock-solid girl power
I groaned so loud you could have heard it in the other room
I knee jerk hate NLOGS heroines, and the implication that apparently being seductive/flirtatious is antithetical to having “rock-solid girl power.”
About a Girl looks fantastic. I’m definitely interested in looking at it more.
About a Girl’s synopsis turned me right off. Hmm, let’s lie and possibly ruin my roommate’s career and when it is apparent that I can’t easily do someone else’s job without education and training, should I keep lying, run away, or confess and then run away so I don’t have to deal with any of the consequences for my selfish choices. At least, that’s what it translated into as I read the blurb.
Um, question here – what does NLOG mean?
Normally I’m able to determine new definitions through context but not this time. Googling didn’t help beyond informing me that it was a logging framework.
@kitkat9000 – Not Like Other Girls
Aka ‘like a guy’ usually, though I dislike the trope enough to not be able to give a longer definition without bagging it out into the extreme.
