Historical Romances, Plus Some Bertrice Small Crazysauce

  • The Courtesan Duchess

The Courtesan Duchess by Joanna Shupe

RECOMMENDEDThe Courtesan Duchess by Joanna Shupe is a Kindle Daily Deal for $1.99! It’s also being price-matched elsewhere, so hooray! This is a historical romance where the couple is married, but estranged. This is also the first book in the Wicked Deceptions series, which Redheadedgirl loved! She mentioned this book on a previous Whatcha Reading post and called the book “delightfully crazy.”

How to seduce an estranged husband—and banish debt!—in four wickedly improper, shockingly pleasurable steps…

    1. Learn the most intimate secrets of London’s leading courtesan.
    2. Pretend to be a courtesan yourself, using the name Juliet Leighton.
    3. Travel to Venice and locate said husband.
    4. Seduce husband, conceive an heir, and voilà, your future is secure!

For Julia, the Duchess of Colton, such a ruse promises to be foolproof. After all, her husband has not bothered to lay eyes on her in eight years, since their hasty wedding day when she was only sixteen. But what begins as a tempestuous flirtation escalates into full-blown passion—and the feeling is mutual. Could the man the Courtesan Duchess married actually turn out to be the love of her life?

  • The Kadin

    The Kadin by Bertrice Small

The Kadin by Bertrice Small is $3.99! Sarah mentioned in her dedication post to Small that this was her first book she tried to get picked up by a publisher. It has the trademarked crazysauce we’ve come to know and love – kidnapping, harems, etc. However, some readers felt this wasn’t exactly a romance. Have you read this one?

  • When the Marquess Met His Match

When the Marquess Met His Match by Laura Lee Guhrke

When the Marquess Met His Match by Laura Lee Guhrke is $2.99! This is the first book in the An American Heiress in London series, which features – you guessed it – an American heiress in London. A few reviews on Goodreads mentioned that the chemistry between the characters didn’t seem believable, while others loved the vulnerability of the hero and heroine. You can snag a few other of Guhrke’s books on sale for $2.99-$3.99! Unfortunately, my favorite book of hers – Guilty Pleasures ( A | BN | K | G | AB ) – is $5.99, but if you’re willing to spend a few extra bucks, it’s worth it.

What happens when a carefree, disreputable, stone-broke bachelor is forced to find a wife in a hurry? He hires a matchmaker, of course. What happens when the matchmaker doesn’t want to help him? Well, that’s when the fun begins…

Nicholas Stirling, Marquess of Trubridge, loves his life just as it is: dissolute, scandalous, and deuced good fun. His father, the Duke of Landsdowne is not amused, and when he cuts off Nicholas’ trust fund, the fun-loving marquess is forced to find an alternate source of income—in other words, he has to marry an heiress.

Every new-money American heiress knows Lady Belinda Featherstone is the key to social acceptance. Once a new-money nobody herself, Belinda discovered first-hand how heartbreaking the game of love and matrimony could be after a reprobate British earl married her for her money. Now a respectable widow, Belinda has become England’s most successful matchmaker, guiding young American heiresses through the hazards of the London season and helping them to find husbands worthy of them. To her mind, the Marquess of Trubridge is nothing but a fortune-hunting scoundrel and she has no intention of allowing him to charm his way into any American girl’s heart, including her own.

  • The Pirate Lord

The Pirate Lord by Sabrina Jeffries

The Pirate Lord by Sabrina Jeffries is $1.99! Readers were so sure this was an answer to a previous HaBO, but alas, it was not. However, check out that cover! Some readers didn’t think the pirate hero was an accurate portrayal of a pirate, while others felt just the opposite and adored him as a character. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.

A Splendid Opportunity … A shipload of women — theirs for the taking!

Pirate captain Gideon Horn couldn’t be more delighted. His men are tired of wandering the high seas and want to settle down with wives on the uncharted island paradise they’ve discovered. And the women are bound to be grateful to be rescued from the life of drudgery awaiting them in New South Wales . . .

    Lord, he’s so clever!

    A Splendid Passion

Married? To pirates? Sara Willis couldn’t be more appalled. First she demands proper courting — at least a month. The darkly handsome pirate lord gives them two weeks. Then Sara insists the men vacate their huts for the women — Gideon demands her kisses in return. As the demands heat up, so do their passions — and soon Sara can’t remember just why she’s fighting the devilishly seductive captain so . . . hard. . .

  1. OMG I’ve done it. I’ve bought a Bertrice Small. I would kind of love it to be a guilty pleasure. I’m not holding my breath.

  2. Tina says:

The Kadin may have been the first romance novel I ever read. I am fairly certain that I read it in the bathroom because that is where my mother would leave her hysterical romances as she called them. Twelve year old me loved this book. I have a feeling it will not hold up but I am going to buy it anyway.

  3. Kate Y. says:

Just to note, there are a whole bunch of Karen Ranney ebooks on sale at present at BN and Amazon. ^_^

  4. LisaJo885 says:

Did The Pirate Lord get his bandana and extensions from the same shop as Bret Michaels (of Poison fame)?
