  • The Principle of Desire

The Principle of Desire by Delphine Dryden

RECOMMENDED: The Principle of Desire by Delphine Dryden is $2.99! I’m not sure if this is the regular price of the book or a sale price, but the rest of the series is also $2.99 each. I will also warn that it’s more of a novella-length romance. Sarah reviewed this book and gave it a B, enjoying the smart characters doing sexy things:

The Principle of Desire combined a lot of things I love, like super-smart characters and terrific heroes growing in their own self confidence, nerd and geek culture, and visiting characters from prior books and finding themselves still awesome. I really liked this one, and I recommend all three.

1 Sexy Switch + 1 Nerdy Newbie = A Master Class in Seduction

After several years as a submissive, psychology lecturer Beth is eager to experience being on the other end of the whip for a change. When she meets sweet but socially awkward Ed at a party, it’s obvious the aerospace engineer is interested—and obvious he’s way too vanilla.

When tracking down a friend lands him in a BDSM club, Ed’s eyes are opened to a whole other world—and a whole other side of Beth. Then Beth’s former Master shows up, and Ed agrees to play along as her sub in exchange for a real date. The biggest surprise of the evening? How much he enjoys letting her take control…

Beth’s ex makes it clear he wants her back, but she needs more from a relationship than he can offer—and not just the freedom to explore her switch side. At first Ed is just an enthusiastic student. But the more she gets to know him, in and out of the bedroom, the more Beth wonders if he’s everything she desires…

  • Third Daughter

Third Daughter by Susan Kaye Quinn

RECOMMENDEDThe Third Daughter by Susan Kaye Quinn is 99c at Amazon! This is a steampunk romance that is heavily influence by Bollywood. Carrie gave this book a B- and warns that there’s also a cliffhanger:

Third Daughter is the first book in the Dharian Series, which is described as Bollywood steampunk.  Please.  Like I’m not going to read a romance that’s advertised as Bollypunk.   This book is uneven in quality, but interesting in concept and it left me eager to read the next two installments (Second Daughter and First Daughter).

You can pick up the entire series for less than $8!

Skyships, saber duels, and lots of royal intrigue… and, of course, kissing.

The Third Daughter of the Queen wants her birthday to arrive so she’ll be free to marry for love, but rumors of a new flying weapon may force her to accept a barbarian prince’s proposal for a peace-brokering marriage. Desperate to marry the charming courtesan she loves, Aniri agrees to the prince’s proposal as a subterfuge in order to spy on him, find the weapon, and hopefully avoid both war and an arranged marriage to a man she does not love.

Third Daughter is the first book in the The Dharian Affairs Trilogy (Third Daughter, Second Daughter, First Daughter). This steampunk-goes-to-Bollywood (Bollypunk!) romance that takes place in an east-Indian-flavored alternate world filled with skyships, saber duels, and lots of royal intrigue. And, of course, kissing.

  • On the Surface

On the Surface by Kate Willoughby

On the Surface by Kate Willoughby is 99c! This is a contemporary sports romance between a hockey player and a nurse. Many readers loved the premise, especially how the hero and heroine initially met, but mentioned some execution problems, like stilted dialogue. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

NHL player Tim Hollander lost his temper one time and threw a water bottle at an abusive fan. After “Bottlegate,” he’s traded to the San Diego Barracudas, where he’ll need to keep the bad publicity to a minimum while proving he can still compete with the younger guys on the ice.

Erin Collier is a pediatric nurse who’s never seen a hockey game, but gets in line for Tim’s autograph at a PR event in hopes of impressing the doctor she has a crush on. When an obnoxious fan gets pushy toward Erin, Tim rushes to defend the pretty stranger, throwing a punch in the process.

Grateful for the rescue, Erin agrees to stand by Tim during the resulting press conference and host him at a hospital charity event. Their chemistry is palpable, and soon their lives are intertwined. But Erin doubts a hockey player is capable of anything resembling a real relationship. And if Tim can’t get her to see beyond what’s on the surface, they’ll never last longer than a single season…

  • Her Lone Wolf

Her Lone Wolf by Paige Tyler

Her Lone Wolf by Paige Tyler is $2.51 at Amazon and Google:Play and $2.99 elsewhere! This is a paranormal romance with shifters and a second chance romance. Reviews on Goodreads mention that the pacing was great and that readers loved the second chance aspect of the romance. However, others felt that some of the setting or plot details didn’t make much sense. Have you read this one?

    Leaving him was impossible…

It took everything she had for FBI Special Agent Danica Beckett to walk away from the man she loved. But if she wants to save his life, she has to keep her distance. Now, with a killer on the loose and the stakes higher than ever before, the Department of Covert Ops is forcing these former lovers into an uneasy alliance…whether they like it or not.

Seeing her again is even worse…

The last thing Clayne Buchanan wants is to be shackled to the woman who broke his heart. She gets under his skin in a way no one ever has and makes him want things he has no right to anymore. All he has to do is suffer through this case and he can be free of her for good. But when Clayne finds out why Danica left in the first place, everything he’s tried to bury comes roaring back—and there’s no way this wolf shifter is going to take no for an answer this time.

  1. Katie Lynn says:

I really enjoy those Delphine Dryden books, they don’t take themselves too seriously, and feel realistic, unlike some BDSM. Nobody’s a millionaire or whatever.

I also really enjoyed the Kate Willoughby, and the rest of that series that I’ve read.

The first x-ops book was quite good (Her Perfect Mate), so I definitely had to pick up the one here, which is the second.

  2. Vasha says:

The Principle of Desire is awesome in a number of ways, just for the enthusiastic sharing that the couple do for one thing. And it has a hero who is not thin! That is hens-teeth-rare and I want to see more of it. The only other heavy hero I know of is in Private Politics by Emma Barry (very good too).

  3. Dietz123 says:

“Her Lone Wolf” cover has uneven mantitty. I guess he’s supposed to be twisting to one side, here’s hoping he doesn’t throw his back out.

  4. Mary Star says:

I’d really love to find a new writer/series in the vein of Bec McMaster, Kristin Callihan, or Jenn Bennett. Historical paranormal or alternative history with ample hotness. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  5. Katie Lynn says:

Mary Starr, have you read any of Gail Carriger’s books? They’re steampunk, really well written. Shelley Adina has a YA series called Magnificent Devices that is also quite good (though I’ve only read the first six or so books).

  6. Mary Star says:

Thank you for the suggestions, @Katie Lynne. I picked up a Gail Carriger book at the Borders RIP sale and never got around to it. I will reinvestigate!
