Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: Time Traveling Heroine has Different Lives

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

This HaBO comes from Sarah (not our Sarah), who is looking for a book with time travel elements:

All right, I’m being haunted by a time-travel book. I read it in the last couple of years, and I’m pretty sure it was a recent publication. But for some reason I neglected to track it on Goodreads (figures) and of course, now I can’t remember the title.

In it there’s a girl and a boy (durr), and the girl time travels? But not really. She changes lives (she’s a poor child growing up, she’s a successful adult, she’s a happy child with a family, etc). She falls in love with a boy growing up, and they continue to find each other over her various lives.

One detail I remember is she grew up with a neglectful mother. And there was a fire… where the boy’s dad was a firefighter I think? Oh god I wonder if I’m confusing plotlines now…

HaBO before I read every damn time travel romance out there.

Time travel romances, though there are a lot of them, can be pretty niche. Who knows this one?

It sounds a bit like Life After Life by Kate Atkinson – it’s a really good book. Not a romance, really. Main character relives her life over and over, taking different paths. There’s the Blitz as a recurring thing (it’s set in the UK, from 1910 onwards) and there’s a train driver bloke.

Probably not quite what you’re looking for. Her mother can be vague, but not really neglectful (only on some go-rounds).

  2. No idea what this book is but I am fascinated by the premise.

Losing Me Finding You by Natalie Ward

Her birthday is on leap day and she wakes up in a new identity every four years but doesn’t remember the old life until she sees boy again. Story follows them growing up and finding each other again and again.

Could be it Remembrance by Jude Deveraux? Not a recent publication, and not exactly time travel, but more reincarnation/past lives/soul mates. I just remember crying so hard while this book, good, ugly crying, lol.

  5. Amy Renee says:

My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares involves past lives, where the pair of lovers live out different lives over and over again together. There is a scene with a house on fire where the male lead rescues the woman.

And the previous comment reminded me – even if it isn’t the book you are looking for, everyone should read Remembrance, just because it’s such a good book! It’s a good ugly cry book in the best way.

  6. Meredith says:

Not sure if all the details fit, but My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares features and hero and heroine who keep finding each other in multiple lives across time.

  7. Sarah says:

OMG IT’S Losing Me Finding You by Natalie Ward!!!Emdee, you are a freaking dream. Thank you!
