Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO Double Dose: Illegitimate Princess Hides as a Nun, Plus Twins Separated at Birth

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

Hen is back again with another HaBO request after having such great help the first time. She’s looking for two historical romances:

I have a really good memory of the beginning of the plot, but can’t remember the title at all, which is a right bummer.

It’s a Scottish romance (squee!) that starts with a Lost And Illegitimate Princess In Hiding as a nun (because what else do you do?) being “stolen” (because again, what else do you do?). The man that steals her is Not Nice and tries to marry her, to which she vehemently refuses because he stole her, duh, so why would she marry him? He doesn’t quite understand this and keeps pushing for matrimony. Yeah. Good luck with that. Somewhere around here a kid appears and Lost And Illegitimate Princess In Hiding saves him from Not Nice Princess Stealing Guy.

Lost And Illegitimate Princess In Hiding and Random Kid escape and run around until they find Jamie Fraser/Sam Heughen who’s Random Kid’s dad. Jamie Fraser/Sam Heughen decides that he’ll keep Lost And Illegitimate Princess In Hiding because why not. Naturally she doesn’t like this. At this point, I’m starting to think she’s a headstrong brat. Oh well. Somehow Jamie Fraser/Sam Heughen finds out she’s an actual princess and decides to marry her. She’s not impressed. Again, duh. But she gives in because Random Kid.

All I remember after this is that stuff happens and Princess Stealing Guy comes back for Lost And Illegitimate Princess.

Happy Ending. Yay.

You up for a second book? Yes? Good.

Incredibly sketchy outline here. I only remember certain details. It’s another historical. Vicorian, I think.

There are aristocratic female twins who were separated as infants when the nanny stole one of them, which wasn’t very nice of her. One of them is now an actress (I think) and a prominent member of society. The other is a lowly poor person who has no idea she has a famous identical person out there, until a Rich Entitled Gentleman walks up and tells her because he’s a bit confused, thinking Poor Twin is actually Rich Twin. Poor Twin refuses to believe anything, but finally accepts it when she sees a poster of Rich Twin.

And that’s all I remember.

Two HaBOs for the price of one this Sunday!

  1. Melissandre says:

I could be wrong, but the lost twin book sounds a lot like A Lady’s Lesson in Scandal by Meredith Duran. But even if it isn’t, everyone should still go read A Lady’s Lesson in Scandal. Here’s a link:

  2. MegS says:

The first sounds like Maya Banks’s In Bed with a Highlander.

  3. I need to write a synopsis of the WIP, and the more I read these HaBO summaries, the more I think I must be doing it wrong. HaBO makes me want to track down the industrial sized crazy-sauce reading under discussion _right now_! Y’all are amazing.

  4. Silver James says:

*scrambles to clean up coffee snorted over monitor and keyboard* … *returns* I have no clue what either book might be, but if Hen wrote the first one, in the voice of her HaBO? I’d be all over it like whipped cream on Irish coffee. Just sayin’…

  5. Ags says:

OMG do I know one?! The second one sounds like Lisa Kleypas’ Somewhere I’ll Find You, but then, there’s no nanny or anything so I’m probably wrong. But if you like separated twins where one is famous for being a courtesan, maybe check that out?

  6. kkw says:

“if you like separated twins where one is famous for being a courtesan”

Yes! Yes I do! I didn’t even know this was a thing, but I am here for it.

  7. The first is definitely In Bed with a Highlander by Maya Banks, first book in her McCabes Trilogy. Loved it.

  8. Mspym says:

Seond one definitely sounds like Mredith Duran’s Lady’s Lesson in Scandal. The rich twin isn’t an actress she’s a Society Beauty which is why there are pictures of her available.

  9. dang. The first one sounds so familiar. Also sounds sorta fun. As does the second. I hate it when I can’t remember.

  10. oops forgot to click the square

  11. LoriS says:

Yup. In bed with a highlander. And such a great series! Read the rest of it 🙂

  12. Reynardo says:

You know what’s crazy? There’s a real life situation that sort of parallels the second scenario. A lass from Paris, who was adopted as a baby from Korea, was contacted by a friend who said “There’s this lady from the US who’s an actress and she looks like your identical twin!” Turns out she *was* the identical twin! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twinsters

  13. Hen says:

    OMG YOU GUYS!!
    Thanks so much (again)!!
You nailed it with In Bed With a Highlander. Off to read it now.
And A Lady’s Lesson in Scandal sounds right so that’s on the read list. Also off to find Somewhere I’ll Find You.
    Thanks girls (and guys?)!
    Hen

  14. Elisa says:

The second book sounds like an older Jane Feather book too – one of the ones that start with V!
