Come the Spring

Come the Spring by Julie Garwood is $1.99! I know Garwood is an auto-buy author for many, though I’ll personally admit I haven’t read any of her American historical romances. This one features a double dose of romance as it has two heroes working together and finding love along the way. However, this is the last book of a series and some felt it lacked the usual sweet, Garwood charm. Have you read it?
Cole Clayborne has been tricked into accepting a badge and the title of U.S. Marshal by Sheriff Marshall Ryan. He would refuse the badge if he could, but the Blackwater Gang is up to no good and Cole feels compelled to help. Sheriff Ryan has been chasing the gang for two years–ever since they murdered his wife and daughter during a bank robbery–and he needs Cole to help him solve the case.
When the Rockford Falls bank is robbed, only one witness is left alive. Terrified by the ordeal, the lone survivor won’t come forward to testify; Cole and Daniels’s only clue to her identity is a list that includes the names of three women who conducted business at the bank that afternoon.
Is the eyewitness the beautiful, aristocratic Rebecca James or the exquisitely lovely Grace Winthrop? Could it be the seductive Jessica Summers? Somehow, Cole and Daniel have to keep the three women safe while solving the bank robberies and tracking down the killers. But the biggest danger of all may be the threat of losing their hearts to one of the beautiful women.

Seduction of a Highland Lass by Maya Banks is $1.99! This is the second book in the McCabe Trilogy and as I’m sure you’ve guessed by the title, it features highlanders. This romance features a heroine who nurses the hero back to help and I’m getting a whiff of an enemies to lovers plot. While the book has a 4.2-star rating on Goodreads, a few readers complained about the sex scenes (the verb “stabbed” was used and apparently some did not appreciate that word choice).
Maya Banks, the New York Times bestselling author of erotic romance, romantic suspense, and contemporary romance, has captivated readers with her steamy Scottish historical novels, perfect for fans of Julie Garwood. In Seduction of a Highland Lass, an indomitable Highland warrior is caught between loyalty and forbidden love.
Fiercely loyal to his elder brother, Alaric McCabe leads his clan in the fight for their birthright. Now he is prepared to wed for duty, as well. But on his way to claim the hand of Rionna McDonald, daughter of a neighboring chieftain, he is ambushed and left for dead. Miraculously, his life is saved by the soft touch of a Highland angel, a courageous beauty who will put to the test his fealty to his clan, his honor, and his deepest desires. An outcast from her own clan, Keeley McDonald was betrayed by those she loved and trusted. When the wounded warrior falls from his horse, she is drawn to his strong, lean body. The wicked glint in his green eyes ignites a passion that will follow them back to Alaric’s keep, where their forbidden love draws them deeper into the pleasures of the flesh. But as conspiracy and danger circle closer, Alaric must make an impossible choice: Will he betray his blood ties for the woman he loves?

The Trouble with Honor by Julia London is $1.99! This is the first book in her Cabot Sisters historical romance series. The heroine makes a deal with the hero for him to seduce her stepbrother’s bride-to-be and of course, they fall in love while he’s supposed to be wooing someone else. Readers loved the heroine, but felt the last quarter of the book didn’t fit with the rest.
Desperate times call for daring measures as Honor Cabot, the eldest stepdaughter of the wealthy Earl of Beckington, awaits her family’s ruin. Upon the earl’s death she and her sisters stand to lose the luxury of their grand home – and their place on the pedestal of society – to their stepbrother and his social-climbing fiancée. Forced to act quickly, Honor makes a devil’s bargain with the only rogue in London who can seduce her stepbrother’s fiancée out of the Cabots’ lives for good.
An illegitimate son of a duke, George Easton was born of scandal and grows his fortune through dangerous risks. But now he and Honor are dabbling in a perilous dance of seduction that puts her reputation and his jaded heart on the line. And as unexpected desire threatens to change the rules of their secret game, the stakes may become too high even for a notorious gambler and a determined, free-spirited debutante to handle.

The Right Wife by Beverly Barton is $1.99 at select vendors! However, it varies in sale price across the board: $2.99 at BN & Google: Play, and $3.99 at All Romance. It’s set in the post-Civil War South and I think I’m just going to paste this paragraph from a Goodreads review so you’ll know what we’re working with here. From Goodreads reviewer, Lynn Spencer:
I haven’t encountered too many romances set in the post-Civil War South. And I can fairly say that I haven’t come across too many romances like The Right Wife either. Readers should be aware that this book has its uncomfortable moments involving race, together with some uncomfortably rapey moments and religious stereotyping. There is something about it that really stands out, though. It’s that vivid but difficult to completely categorize quality I like to call WTF-ery.
In a sweeping and vibrant novel set in the post-war South, New York Times bestselling author Beverly Barton follows one young woman’s journey to love and independence…
1885. All of Margaret Campbell’s hopes for the future lie in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Since the death of her sharecropper father, eighteen-year-old Maggie has no resources and few allies, aside from the relatives who’ve agreed to take her in. With luck, she might yet make an upright gentleman of her brother, and a real lady of her rebellious little sister. And perhaps, once her siblings are settled, she’ll find a decent, hardworking man to marry. But those plans are jeopardized the moment she meets Aaron Stone.
Effortlessly charming, Aaron is building an empire in the South. Maggie knows he wants the right kind of wife to overcome the shadows surrounding his birth—someone like the well-connected widow he’s been courting. Someone a million miles from a penniless, outspoken sharecropper’s daughter. But neither jealousy, family secrets, nor long-held prejudices will keep Maggie from following her heart

Irresistibly Yours:An Oxford Novel by Lauren Layne is 99 cents at Amazon U.S.
@Kelsey C: Thanks! I’ve being meaning to start that series for a while!
My Dearest Enemy by Connie Brockway is $ 0.99 at Amazon.
Ah, My Dearest Enemy is a real favorite of mine. Thanks for mentioning it, Bea!
Glad for the Highland recommendation. I’ve got a yearning for Scottish heroes lately. (Maybe I’m just desperate for Season 2 of “Outlander” to air on Stars network.)
Thanks, Bea and Kareni! I was in the market for a historical, but have been trying to curb my addictions by not buying anything over 99c 🙂
I just bought and read the Beverly Barton book, and I was enjoying it until the H & H got it on for the first time — turns out he’s a pretty inconsiderate lover. I mean, really. It’s not even old skool rapey he knows best WTFery, he just doesn’t care about her or that he’s taking her virginity. Yuck.
That cover for “The Right Wife” is freaking gorgeous!
