  • Fire Inside

    Fire Inside by Kristen Ashley

Fire Inside by Kristen Ashley is 99c at Amazon, Kobo, and Google:Play! Elsewhere, it’s $3.99, so let’s hope for the price-matching fairies will pay a visit. This is a contemporary romance that borders on the erotic side, and features a motorcycle-riding hero and a one-night stand. Ashley tends to write some dramatic, angsty romance, which is something readers either seems to love or hate. Have you read this one?

Lanie Heron isn’t looking for love-no surprise, considering her last serious relationship nearly got her killed. So when Lanie propositions Hop Kincaid, all she wants is one wild night with the hot-as-hell biker who patrols with the Chaos Motorcycle Club . . .

For Hop, Lanie has always been untouchable. She’s too polished and too classy for his taste. But when she gives Hop the once-over with her bedroom eyes and offers him a night in paradise, he can’t say no. And he doesn’t regret it when he finds that Lanie is the best thing that’s ever happened to him-in or out of bed. Now the trick will be to convince her of that.

  • Last First Kiss

Last First Kiss by Lia Riley

Last First Kiss by Lia Riley is 99c! It’s the first book in the Brightwater series. A second chance AND small town romance, the blogger, single mother heroine returns to her “one-cow” hometown only to run into her first love. Those readers hoping for some angst though should probably look elsewhere, as many reviewers described the romance as sweet and quirky. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads. The next book, Right Wrong Guy, is also 99c!

A kiss is only the beginning…

Pinterest Perfect. Or so Annie Carson’s life appears on her popular blog. Reality is… messier. Especially when it lands her back in one-cow town, Brightwater, California, and back in the path of the gorgeous six-foot-four reason she left. Sawyer Kane may fill out those wranglers, but she won’t be distracted from her task. Annie just needs the summer to spruce up and sell her family’s farm so she and her young son can start a new life in the big city. Simple, easy, perfect.

Sawyer has always regretted letting the first girl he loved slip away. He won’t make the same mistake twice, but can he convince beautiful, wary Annie to trust her heart again when she’s been given every reason not to? And as a single kiss turns to so much more, can Annie give up her idea of perfect for a forever that’s blissfully real.

  • The Truth as He Knows It

The Truth as He Knows It by A.M. Arthur

The Truth as He Knows It by A.M. Arthur is 99c! This is a M/M contemporary romance, though it does appear that there’s some trauma as backstory so I’m giving it a trigger warning based on that. It’s also a small town romance with one of the heroes being a cop. Some of the reviewers on Goodreads loved the heaping helping of angst from the book, while others felt the traumatic backstories were too much. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.

Lies are the chains that keep you weighed down at rock bottom.

Officer Noel Carlson isn’t out to anyone in small-town Stratton, Pennsylvania, only to distant friends and family, so a relationship is out of the question. That doesn’t stop him from wanting one, though.

When a night-shift call brings him face to thonged butt with a hired stripper whose girl-party gig went terribly wrong, Noel takes pity on the guy and lets him go. But he can’t get the encounter out of his mind.

Shane has big-time debts to repay, especially to the brother who sacrificed nearly everything for him. His two jobs, in a deli and as a stripper, leave him no time for a social life. But a non-date of hot sex and takeout food with Noel? He can squeeze that in.

The bond they form is stronger than either expected or wanted. Especially since the step Shane’s about to take to put his brother—and his soul—back in the black isn’t quite legal. And he never calculated just how much his determination to make things right will cost him in the end.

  • Easy Love

    Easy Love by Kristen Proby

Easy Love by Kristen Proby is 99c! This is another contemporary romance with an opposites attract plot. Since this is the first book in a series, some readers felt a lot of the plot revolved around setting things up. However, many loved the setting of New Orleans, and especially the hero. It has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads.

Eli Boudreaux’s family has built ships and boats in Louisiana for generations. He comes from a hard working, wealthy family and his empire is growing by leaps and bounds. At thirty, he is the youngest CEO to ever head Bayou Enterprises, co-chairing with his eldest brother. His head for business and his no-nonsense work ethic is also quickly making him the best the company has seen in generations. His staff admires him, women adore him and Eli’s family is solid. But he’s recently discovered that someone on the inside of his business is stealing from him and he’s determined to find out who.

Kate O’Shaughnessy is hired by companies all over the world to slip inside and investigate every member of the organization from the CEO down to the custodial staff to find the person or persons responsible for embezzling. She’s excellent at blending, becoming part of the team, and finding the weakest link. She’s smart, quick-witted, and she’s now been hired by Bayou Enterprises, specifically Eli Boudreaux. The attraction is immediate and the chemistry is off the charts, but Kate has heard all about Eli’s playboy past and she has a job to do. Sleeping with the boss isn’t a part of that job, even if just the sound of her name rolling off that Cajun tongue and the way he fills out a designer suit does make her sweat.

Eli’s southern charms surprise Kate. The man whose reputation labels him as a ruthless, callous womanizer is not the man she’s coming to know intimately. He’s generous, protective and makes her smile. Cracking through Kate’s cool, reserved demeanor and discovering her love of sexy, expensive lingerie is a challenge Eli can’t resist, but her sweet nature, love of family and sense of humor pull at him in ways no one else ever has.

But when the person responsible for trying to single-handedly dismantle Eli’s empire comes to light, and it’s time for Kate to move on, to what lengths will Eli go to keep the woman he’s fallen in love with by his side?

I’m in the love-Kristen-Ashley camp, at least most of the time. Fire Inside is one of my f.a.v.o.r.i.t.e.s.. It’s a standalone, but reading Motorcycle Man first would be helpful. And then you’d get to meet Tack, and that alone is a Good Thing.

  2. kitkat9000 says:

I made the mistake of reading everything Ashley had out up to Raid of her Unfinished Heroes series in an OCD fueled binge-read. If she’d been in front of me, I would have slapped her with one of her own books. HOWEVER, that said, her stories are like crack and once you start, it’s nearly impossible to stop. Hell, I’ve even reread most of them at different times. Lesson learned: one at a time to avoid the rage.

I’ve been picking up my favorites one by one along the way so the sale is definitely nice. Thanks for the heads up.

  3. Mara B. says:

I somehow both like and strongly dislike Kriten Ashley’s book, often simultaneously. They are drama filled angst fests often with improbably short timelines and they have uber alpha asshole heroes. The sort who are like this relationship starts when I say it does and ends when I say t does and you, female I want to bone, don’t have a say. But some of her heroes aren’t that bad and they make up for the jackasses. I also appreciate that her books are really big on female friendships.

  4. kitkat9000 says:

Totally agree, though to be honest that was never my biggest peeve. No, what drives me insane are the catchphrases each heroine has and uses repeatedly throughout the story.

Welp, I guess I’ll go to work now. Welp, that’s really bad. Welp, he’s gorgeous and asked me out. Welp, guess I gotta date him. Welp! I would have beaten her so damn hard with that book, the print would have imbedded her skin. My OCD made it impossible to walk away.

That and her heroines are always beautiful but unaware just how beautiful they really are. Oh, and if you’re not going to curse, then don’t use “almost but not” phrases. It’s motherfucker, not motherfather or whatever.

And she had a grown-ass woman knuckling under to her religious parents on the language front. I think she said damn or something equally innocuous and her mother corrected her. She was 27 years old. Argh!

Seriously, I have to read her in very small doses. No more than one book at a time. That OCD glomfest had me growling so badly even the dog wouldn’t get close. The cats just hid.

OHMYGAWD, that book summary for Easy Love — GET THAT BOOK IN MY EYEBALLS IMMEDIATELY.

Thanks for finding it! My wallet hates you guys, but I don’t!

  6. Amanda says:

@Sue: My wallet hates me too, and I’m the one that puts these damn things together!

  7. KellyM says:

I’m in the “love Ashley” camp but as with any series author I can only take their books in small doses. I do not “binge” read any of them because I get bored too easily. That goes for Gabaldon, Ashley, Tolkien, Ward, etc. I begin digging through my ever growing TBR pile for something new before I finish a series. I owe a healthy portion of my TBR to the Bitchery. : ) It doesn’t matter if I hide my wallet with my hair trigger one-click finger. I do give myself a gift card allowance to use for ebook purchases because I don’t like having several (dozen) small purchase on my statement. 😉
I check Smart Bitches every day to see what’s new and most times I find myself hitting that darn buy button.

  8. Cordy (not stuck in spam filter sub-type) says:

I tried one Kristen Ashley book (either this one, or another in this series) and made it about a chapter and a half – the heroine kept looking up at the hero and whispering “Okay” in response to whatever nonsense fell out of his long goatee (noooooooo) and I stopped. I figure there’s something to be said for an author having an extremely distinct style so that people know for sure that they either like their work or they are never going to. You know?

  9. Mardee says:

I accidentally came upon KA a few years ago with her book At Peace. I LOVED it. I was hooked after that. I started the Rock Chick Series and just enjoyed it for what it was….funny, sexy and exciting. I’ve read everything she’s written, and often reread them when in a pinch. Some of them weren’t my taste, but that has not stopped me from appreciating the ones that she knocks out of the park!
