  • Pride and Pleasure

Pride and Pleasure by Sylvia Day

Pride and Pleasure by Sylvia Day is $2.99! This is an erotic historical romance between an heiress and a man she hired to investigate her potential suitors. A few readers felt like there was too much talking and not enough action. However, many enjoyed the plot setup and the characterizations of the hero and heroine. Have you read this one?

Wealth Has Its Dangers. . .

There are disadvantages to being an heiress, as Eliza Martin knows well. Fortune hunters corner her, friends become opportunistic, and lately, someone is engineering “accidents” to propel her into marriage. Not one to be bullied, Eliza needs the right man to infiltrate the nest of suitors. . .

. . .So Do Certain Men

By all measures, Jasper Bond is the wrong man for the job. He can’t dance, isn’t known for his restraint, and his blood heats whenever he’s near his latest employer. Eliza Martin insists no one will believe an intellectual like her could be seduced by a man of action like Jasper, but the combination of his desire and her mystery makes the case one he can’t resist. Client satisfaction is a point of pride and it’s his pleasure to prove he’s just the man she needs after all…

  • Breaking the Bachelor

Breaking the Bachelor by Maggie Kelley

Breaking the Bachelor by Maggie Kelley is 99c! This is the first book in her Smart Cupid contemporary romance series. This also a second chance romance between a matchmaker and “Manhattan’s hottest bachelor.” Some readers had issues with liking the heroine, while others felt it was a cute debut novel that set up future pairings really well. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.

    This time, Cupid’s playing dirty…

Goaded by her competition, matchmaker Jane Wright makes a very public bet that she can find the “perfect” match for Manhattan’s hottest confirmed bachelor—sexy-as-sin bartender Charlie Goodman. Unfortunately, Charlie is also Jane’s ex-lover, a man she broke up with on a cocktail napkin. With her company on the line, Jane has no choice but to convince the man of her most impractical dreams to dive back into the dating pool.

Charlie doesn’t want to see Jane’s business fail. He just wants a little revenge. Determined to prove to Jane that chemistry always beats compatibility algorithms, he plans to drive her crazy with desire…then walk away. And his plan is working. A little too well, actually. Because even as Jane scrambles to calculate Charlie’s best match, the heat building between them combusts. But Charlie’s been so busy outsmarting Cupid that he hasn’t noticed he’s the naughty cherub’s next target…

  • Light My Fire

Light My Fire by G.A. Aiken

Light My Fire by G.A. Aiken is $1.99! This is the seventh book in Aiken’s Dragon Kin series, which is (obviously) about dragons. The heroine is sent to assassinate the Dragon Queen and is found out. The hero, part of the Queen’s guard, is tasked with transporting the heroine back home in hopes of negotiating a truce. Some readers found the book rather light on romance, though many loved seeing characters from previous books. Any fans of this series in the Bitchery?

The trouble with humans is that they’re far too sensitive. Forget you put a woman in the local jail for a few months – and she takes it so personally! And yet she is the one trying to assassinate the queen. And now I’m trapped with Elina Shestakova of the Black Bear Riders of the Midnight…gods! That endless name!

But what am I to do? I am Celyn the Charming with direct orders from my queen to protect this unforgiving female.

Even more shocking, this unforgiving female is completely unimpressed by me. How is that even possible? But I know what I want and, for the moment, I want her. And I’m sure that she, like all females, will learn to adore me. How could she not when I am just so damn charming?

  • The Scandalous Secret of Abigail MacGregor

The Scandalous Secret of Abigail MacGregor by Paula Quinn

The Scandalous Secret of Abigail MacGregor by Paula Quinn is $1.99! This is the third book in Quinn’s The MacGregor’s: Highland Heirs series. This is a romance between a Scottish heroine and an English knight, who’s tasked with escorting the heroine. Readers loved the headstrong heroine, but found the number of clans and characters a bit confusing. It has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads

    A LADY’S MISSION . . .

Known for her beauty and boldness, Abigail MacGregor must preserve her clan’s dangerous secret: that her mother is the true heir to the English Crown. If the wrong people find out, it will mean war for her beloved Scotland. To keep peace, she embarks for London, unprepared for the treachery that awaits-especially from her wickedly handsome escort. He is the enemy, but his slow, sensuous kisses entice her beyond reason . . .

    A WARRIOR’S TEMPTATION

General Daniel Marlow, loyal knight and the kingdom’s most desirable hero, would rather be on the battlefield than transporting a spoiled Highland lass. But Abby MacGregor is unlike any woman he’s ever met, in a ballroom or in his bedroom. Captivated by her daring spirit and seduced by her lovely innocence, Daniel must choose between betraying his queen or giving up the woman who would steal his country-and his traitorous heart.

  1. ReneeG says:

Love all the Dragon Kin books by G. A. Aiken. Squeee – Dragons! Heros who are Dragons!! Strong women who can take on the Dragons!!! Laugh-out-loud, try-not-to-snort-laugh, and-yet-tender-and-touching writing. Great series – but can’t wait until the price drops. They are so great that I pay Full Price for them as soon as they hit Amazon’s Preorder!

Ahem. Yes, I adore these books.

  2. Theresa says:

I am rereading the Dragon Kin series at the moment. Love that series and I adore the heroine of Light My Fire. She’s a hoot. Very much looking forward to the next one releasing in autumn.

  3. Kelsey C. says:

Also Lothaire and Shadow’s Claim by Kresley Cole are on sale for $1.99 at Amazon US.

  4. Melanie says:

I absolutely adore the G.A. Aiken Dragon books. They are just crack-y enough to be fun, with actual plot and characterization. Much love.

(What a dragon should know is the best of the bunch. The end.)

  5. Texas Book Lover says:

I too agree that all of the Dragon Kin books are well worth full price so grab it while it’s on sale and then devour them! Very funny and sooo good!

  6. DonnaMarie says:

While I have much love for G.A.Aiken aka Shelly Laurenston, I have to rec the Sylvia Day historical. I like her in all genres, but I really enjoy her historical romances most.

  7. Susan says:

Although I gave up on the Dragon Kin books awhile ago (after 4 or 5?), I still picked up this one since I’m a sucker for a sale. But the guy on the cover reminds me of Zac Efron with a little more testosterone.

  8. Amanda says:

@Susan: I actually think he looks more like Ian Somerhalder.

  9. kitkat9000 says:

I love all of the Dragon books, though TBH pretty much everything Aiken/Laurenston writes rocks. Just love the strong heroines, great guys, fantastic humor and sexytimes.

And I agree with Melanie about WADSK- Gwenvael is my favorite and paired with Dagmar? I wish they were real just for the chance to talk to them.

The next book in the series Feel the Burn releases 11/24 and features Elina’s sister Kachka and Gaius the Rebel King and is $5.84 for Kindle as opposed to $7.99 for ppbk. Sadly that is still higher than all the other dragon books save How to Drive a Dragon Crazy. I still preordered it.

  10. MelM says:

That Sylvia Day cover… Is the book set in the 50s or did the photographer just not care enough to scrounge up earrings from this century? Because my grandma’s plastic dime store pearls just send the opposite message of sexy romance mood to my brain.

  11. PamG says:

Aiken/Laurenston is one of those authors I can pick up anytime for a reread. She always makes me grin. See all reasons above.

I particularly liked Elina however, because she was so reminiscent of the kind of political satire that was popular during the later Cold War era. I always preferred Commie mocking to Commie hating and if it nailed both sides better still. So when Elina puts down the “decadent Southern dragons,” it’s teatime in memory lane.
