  • The Winter Sea

The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley

RECOMMENDED: The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley is $1.99 Kindle Daily Deal today. It was a Book Club Pick in April 2011, and it blew Sarah’s mind how absorbing and touching it was. She says:

It’s really a wonderful, powerful story. I can’t recommend this book more forcefully. I will strong arm you into it! I’ll come to your house and arm wrestle you until you buy it! Seriously, it’s lovely.

    History has all but forgotten…

In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown.

Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next bestselling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write.

But when she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction, Carrie wonders if she might be dealing with ancestral memory, making her the only living person who knows the truth-the ultimate betrayal-that happened all those years ago, and that knowledge comes very close to destroying her…

  • Destiny’s Embrace

    Destiny’s Embrace by Beverly Jenkins

RECOMMENDED: Destiny’s Embrace is $2.99!  This book was the Sizzling Book Club Pick in February 2013, and Sarah really enjoyed it, especially the parts about the establishment of the state of California. She also says her favorite scenes are Mariah’s train ride across the country, and how she stares down Logan once she gets to Destiny. This series is just fantastic.

Gentleman Seeks Housekeeper. Must be willing to travel.

Desperate for another life away from Philadelphia, headstrong and beautiful Mariah Cooper answers an advertisement for a housekeeper at the other end of the continent. Waiting in California is the most breathtaking—and arrogant—man she has ever met…and he’d like nothing better than for Mariah to go back home!

Logan Yates has run Destiny, the family ranch, since he was a boy. He doesn’t need this Eastern miss his stepmother hired, though his home’s chaotic state suggests otherwise. Still, he’s secretly pleased that Mariah gives as good as she gets—and he must fight the urge to take her in his arms and kiss her whenever she proudly stands her ground. But when he’s in danger of losing her, Logan will have to choose between pride…and his heart’s true desire.

  • Destiny’s Surrender

    Destiny’s Surrender by Beverly Jenkins

RECOMMENDED: Destiny’s Surrender by Bevery Jenkins is still $3.99! Jenkins is an auto-buy author for a lot of readers! This is the second book in her Destiny series and follows Andrew, Logan’s brother. He has a particularly unique relationship with a courtesan named Billie, who shows up on his doorstep with a child she says is his – and with the intention of leaving her son there so he can have a better life and escape the danger that’s closely following Billie. This book has an impressive 4.2-star rating on GR.

The child he didn’t know he had . . .

Andrew Yates has come to a decision: it’s time to stop sowing those oats and start a family. But searching for a bride isn’t as simple as he’d hoped, and many of the respectable women of his acquaintance feel . . . lacking. Then beautiful, feisty Wilhelmina “Billie” Wells arrives at the family ranch with a toddler in her arms, claiming Drew is the father!

The woman he didn’t know he loved . . .

Billie had no choice but to show up at Destiny in search of Drew. For the sake of their child, she’s willing to leave him with his father so the boy can have a better life, but then, before she can blink, she’s saying “I do” in front of a preacher in a marriage of convenience. All Billie and Drew have in common is the heat that brought them together, but can their sizzling passion lead to an everlasting love?

  • The Suffragette Scandal

The Suffragette Scandal by Courtney Milan

RECOMMENDED: The Suffragette Scandal by Courtney Milan is 99c! This is the fourth recommended historical romance on sale today! Redheadedgirl and Carrie did a joint review of this title and they gave it an A:

Both Redheadedgirl and I give this book ALL THE A’s.  We laughed, we cried, we were inspired and frustrated.

I may have swooned a little.

Redheadedgirl spent her Friday emailing the other Smart Bitches reviewers and telling us “HURRY UP AND READ THE BOOK I NEED TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT IT”.

    An idealistic suffragette…

Miss Frederica “Free” Marshall has put her heart and soul into her newspaper, known for its outspoken support of women’s rights. Naturally, her enemies are intent on destroying her business and silencing her for good. Free refuses to be at the end of her rope…but she needs more rope, and she needs it now.

    …a jaded scoundrel…

Edward Clark’s aristocratic family abandoned him to die in a war-torn land, so he survived the only way he could: by becoming a rogue and a first-class forger. When the same family that left him for dead vows to ruin Miss Marshall, he offers his help. So what if he has to lie to her? She’s only a pawn to use in his revenge.

…and a scandal seven years in the making.

But the irrepressible Miss Marshall soon enchants Edward. By the time he realizes that his cynical heart is hers, it’s too late. The only way to thwart her enemies is to reveal his scandalous past…and once the woman he loves realizes how much he’s lied to her, he’ll lose her forever.

  1. Maybe it’s just me that’s this lucky, but be careful when you’re one-clicking — the default is signing up for Kindle Unlimited, which I’m not into. I’d like to buy (just) the Kindle copy, which means I may be waiting until tomorrow.
