Avon Contemporaries on Sale!

  • At Wolf Ranch

At Wolf Ranch by Jennifer Ryan

RECOMMENDED: At Wolf Ranch by Jennifer Ryan is $2.99! This is technically more of a romantic suspense than a contemporary, but I’d say the suspense portion is pretty light. The book also features an awesome beta rancher hero who knows how to cook. Elyse and I did a joint review of the book and gave it a B:

    Elyse:

This book was trope heaven for me. It’s got Country Boy vs City Girl, Unexpected Rescuer, Snowed In… It was like trope confetti.

    Amanda:

Yes! Plus I’ve been on a cowboy kick lately and c’mon, did you see the size of that man’s Stetson on the cover?

Admittedly, it was a slow start for me with the phone call and the info dumpage of character details. However once Ella and Gabe were in the same vicinity, the book really took off. Their interactions together were sincere, sweet, and addicting.

Everything’s bigger in Big Sky country, including the hearts of the Montana Men…

After years on the rodeo circuit, Gabe Bowden wants nothing more than land of his own and a woman who will claim his heart for more than one night. When he has the chance to buy the enormous Wolf Ranch spread, he snaps up the incredible deal. Everything is set, until Gabe rescues a woman on the deserted, snowy road leading to the property, and the half-frozen beauty changes everything.

Ella Wolf rushes to her family’s abandoned Montana ranch after her twin sister is murdered. She knows she’s next . . . unless she can uncover a secret hidden somewhere at Wolf Ranch. The last thing Ella expects is to be rescued by a rugged rancher with his own agenda. A man who almost makes her forget how dangerous love can be.

As an unlikely partnership sparks into something so much more, and a killer closes in, can Ella and Gabe learn to trust one another before it’s too late?

  • Run to You

Run to You by Rachel Gibson

Run to You by Rachel Gibson is $2.99! This book is part of series, though I’m not sure which one. I’ve seen that it’s book four in the Lovett, Texas series and it’s book two in the Military Men series. Maybe someone in the Bitchery can shed some light. It has a Marine hero and a bartender heroine, and looks like it’s a road trip romance. Long time fans of Gibson though seem to be divided on Run to You, and it has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.

There’s nothing like fleeing Miami to ruin a girl’s day. Stella Leon’s bartending gig was going fine until gorgeous ex-Marine Beau Junger decked her mob-connected boss, spirited her out of the city, and claimed that Stella’s half-sister–the one with the perfect life–sent him. Now Stella has no choice but to go along for the ride… and seduce Beau’s military-issue socks off…

The Marine Corps was Beau’s escape from his old man’s legacy of naval heroism and serial philandering, but no amount of training could prepare him for the day he looked in the mirror and saw his father staring back. The answer: swear off meaningless sex. Oh, and find a way to make Stella Leon quit being so damn hot…

  • All of Me

All of Me by Jennifer Bernard

All of Me by Jennifer Bernard is $2.99! Bernard, if the same seems familiar, is used to writing about sexy firemen. However, All of Me, is the first book in a new series featuring baseball players. Catnip for anyone who loves sports contemporaries. Readers liked how the couple seemed to be equals, though some felt the book ran a little long. Has anyone read this one?

Jennifer Bernard, the USA Today bestselling author of the Bachelor Firemen series, scores another homerun with a brand-new series about sexy, single baseball players.

Playing for the Kilby Catfish is hotshot pitcher Caleb Hart’s last chance to salvage his career after a major league meltdown. But the day of his opener with the minor league team, Caleb strikes out with the gorgeous woman who is delivering a petition to run the unruly Catfish out of town. Now, to stay in the lineup, Caleb will need to score big with the feisty brunette he can’t keep out of his thoughts.

After the nasty lies Sadie Merritt’s rich ex-boyfriend spread about her all over town, she’s lucky to have a job at all. She can’t afford to screw it up by falling for the player who is supposed to be helping her change the image of the fun-loving Catfish. But that’s easier said than done when Caleb’s voice alone is enough to make her pulse race. And when he surprises her with a mind-blowing kiss, she knows there’s no turning back.

  • Last First Kiss

Last First Kiss by Lia Riley

Last First Kiss by Lia Riley is $1.99! This is a very recent release – it came out on June 23rd – and is the first book in the Brightwater series. A second chance AND small town romance, the blogger, single mother heroine returns to her “one-cow” hometown only to run into her first love. Those readers hoping for some angst though should probably look elsewhere, as many reviewers described the romance as sweet and quirky. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

A kiss is only the beginning…

Pinterest Perfect. Or so Annie Carson’s life appears on her popular blog. Reality is… messier. Especially when it lands her back in one-cow town, Brightwater, California, and back in the path of the gorgeous six-foot-four reason she left. Sawyer Kane may fill out those wranglers, but she won’t be distracted from her task. Annie just needs the summer to spruce up and sell her family’s farm so she and her young son can start a new life in the big city. Simple, easy, perfect.

Sawyer has always regretted letting the first girl he loved slip away. He won’t make the same mistake twice, but can he convince beautiful, wary Annie to trust her heart again when she’s been given every reason not to? And as a single kiss turns to so much more, can Annie give up her idea of perfect for a forever that’s blissfully real.

While not published by Avon I just say that Escorted by Claire Kent is free on Amazon right now.

  2. DonnaMarie says:

The Rachel Gibson book is part of two story arcs, but can be read as a stand alone. Sure, it would be great to have read her sister’s book first, but not necessary. OTOH, Rachel Gibson books give me the grabby hands, so I recommend you read any and all.

  3. Laura says:

I haven’t read this Gibson, and I’ve given her up. “Wild About You”, the book about the other Junger brother, set my rage-ometer off so hard that I’m still pissed at it. The asshat hero was pretty much Chris Kyle with another name, he was hateful towards the child in the book, referred to the heroine as “sweet cheeks” in front of said kid-and he wasn’t referring to her smile-and his reason for coming back to her after running away sucked.

  4. kateswan says:

Am I the only one who hates these contemporary photo-covers? They look like bad 1960s novels with sexually-antiquated romance tropes. Ewww to all three covers.

  5. Celia says:

At Wolf Ranch was good, but it’s a little weird–the main character is a twin who watched/heard her sister get murdered, and it’s a major part of the plot and yet it doesn’t really seem to matter–it could have been a friend or neighbor. I seriously expected there to be a plot twist where her sister wasn’t actually dead because she was ultimately so blase about losing her twin. Perhaps I’m jaded by the usual fiction trope of ‘linked’ twins.
