Recommended Historicals from Theresa Romain and More!

  • Season for Scandal

Season for Scandal by Theresa Romain

RECOMMENDED: Season for Scandal by Theresa Romain is $1.99 at Amazon and should be price matched today – fingers crossed! This is a historical romance by a writer many of us here at Bitchery HQ admire greatly. RedHeadedGirl reviewed this book and gave it an A+, and said, “As someone who also has difficulty relationshipping, I really, really liked this.  There are a lot of well-drawn side characters, and an entertainingly evil bad guy, and (quelle surprise) actual learning.  I wasn’t even 1/4 done before I was emailing Sarah going “WE NEED EVERYONE TO READ THIS” because I was getting super emotional over everybody and everything.  Read the book!  You’ll be happy you did. “

Jane Tindall has never had money of her own or exceptional beauty. Her gifts are more subtle: a mind like an abacus, a talent for play-acting–and a daring taste for gambling. But all the daring in the world can’t help with the cards fixed against her. And when Edmund Ware, Baron Kirkpatrick, unwittingly spoils her chance to win a fortune, her reputation is ruined too. Or so she thinks, until he suggests a surprising mode of escape: a hasty marriage. To him. On the surface, their wedding would satisfy all the demands of proper society, but as the Yuletide approaches, secrets and scandals turn this proper marriage into a very improper affair.

  • Loving a Lost Lord

Loving a Lost Lord by Mary Jo Putney

Loving a Lost Lord by Mary Jo Putney is $1.99 right now. This is the first book in the Lost Lords series, and it has a 3.6-star average on GoodReads. It also has plenty of historical catnip, too. Shipwrecks! Groups of male friends with a Special Group Name who are all sequel bait! Plus amnesia! Have you read this book?

In the first of a dazzling series, Mary Jo Putney introduces the Lost Lords—maverick childhood friends with a flair for defying convention. Each is about to discover the woman who is his perfect match—but perfection doesn’t come easily, even for the noble Duke of Ashton…

Battered by the sea, Adam remembers nothing of his past, his ducal rank, nor the shipwreck that almost claimed his life. However, he’s delighted to hear that the golden-haired vision tending his wounds is his wife. Mariah’s name and face may be familiar, but her touch, her warmth, feel deliciously right.

When Mariah Clarke prayed for a way to deter a bullying suitor, she didn’t imagine she’d find the answer washed ashore on a desolate beach. Convincing Adam that he is her husband is surprisingly easy. Resisting the temptation to act his wife, in every way, will prove anything but. And now a passion begun in fantasy has become dangerously real—and completely irresistible.

  • I Married the Duke

I Married the Duke by Katherine Ashe

I Married the Duke by Katharine Ashe is $1.99 right now. That’s two books on sale today with women with dark red hair in flowing green dresses. Score! This is book 1 of the Prince Catchers series, and it has a 3.7-star average. This is the start of a trilogy that follows three sisters who must fulfill a prophecy to marry a prince, and according to at least one review, I want to give a heads up/ trigger warning for abuse.

Arabella Caulfield, one of three orphaned sisters, has clung to an ancient gypsy prophecy as the only way to save her family from endless heartbreak. Now she has twelve days to reach a remote French castle and fulfill her destiny: to marry a prince.

Along the way, Arabella meets Lucien Westfall, decorated naval captain and the new Duke of Lycombe. She thought he was a pirate. He thought she was a governess. Two wrongs have never made such a scandalously perfect right.

  • I Loved a Rogue

I Loved a Rogue by Katharine Ashe

I Loved a Rogue by Katharine Ashe is $.99 right now! This is book three of the Prince Catchers trilogy — book 2, I Adored a Lord, is $5.99. This book has a 4+ star average on GoodReads, and is the story of Eleanor, the oldest of the three sisters and the quiet one who has been a “perfect vicar’s daughter.” Readers who liked it loved watching Eleanor demand agency and go after the adventure and person she wants.

In the third in Katharine Ashe’s Prince Catchers series, the eldest of three very different sisters must fulfill a prophecy to discover their birthright. But if Eleanor is destined to marry a prince, why can’t she resist the scoundrel who seduced her?

She can pour tea, manage a household, and sew a modest gown. In short, Eleanor Caulfield is the perfect vicar’s daughter. Yet there was a time when she’d risked everything for a black-eyed gypsy who left her brokenhearted. Now he stands before her—dark, virile, and ready to escort her on a journey to find the truth about her heritage.

Leaving eleven years ago should have given Taliesin freedom. Instead he’s returned to Eleanor, determined to have her all to himself, tempting her with kisses and promising her a passion she’s so long denied herself. But if he was infatuated before, he’s utterly unprepared for what will happen when Eleanor decides to abandon convention—and truly live.

I Adored A Lord is $1.99 on Amazon for the Kindle version. (yay! I love being able to pick up an entire trilogy at once)

  2. Kim says:

I Adored A Lord? Almost had to replace my keyboard due to water damage, thanks for that! 😛 😉

  3. Heather S says:

That last Katharine Ashe sounds particularly good, but I snapped up all three because $5 for a trilogy is a total bargain.

  4. RevMelinda says:

“The Turncoat” by Donna Thorland is $1.99 for Kindle and Nook. It’s an American Revolutionary Ear era historical I’ve heard good things about.

  5. KatieF says:

I was not Loving a Lost Lord–there were a few too many plot twists piled on for my taste. I’m not a fan of the “oh the person you thought was dead isn’t really dead” trope and believe it should be used sparingly, if at all. The author, apparently, does not feel the same way.

  6. Karin says:

@Rev Melinda, yes, “The Turncoat” is excellent, it’s not a lighthearted read, but suspenseful and pretty realistic about the dangers a female spy faced. Well worth getting at that bargain price.
