Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: Spies and Wives and Historical Series

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

This HaBO is from Pamela, who is looking for a series she started – but didn’t finish. And she can’t remember it so she can buy the next one. That’s a problem!

Ok, so I read a lot. A LOT. I’m a really fast reader, I can knock out a book in a couple of hours. Those reading times on Amazon are total bull. Anyway, I love coming across a series I enjoy, because, well, lots of books!

I started a series a few years ago and read the first few books, but the next book wasn’t out yet at the time. Now I can’t remember the name of any of the earlier books or the name of the author. Or even how many books there were.

What I remember:

1. Regency

2. All our heroes come from a group of spies. The group might have a name, maybe not.

3. The only plot I can remember from the earlier books is one where a woman (gasp!) wanted to be a spy and was basically in competition for the coveted spy position with a man who is her romantic interest. He knew she was never going to get the position and starts a relationship with her without being honest. I think she was a widow maybe and her deceased husband taught her the spy business, maybe?

4. There is another character who shows up in all the books, the spymaster. The boss man. It’s a big mystery in all the books who he is. Is he someone we’ve met?

5. There was a teaser for the next book that was all about our mystery man.

6. That’s all I got.

Help a bitch out?

I thought this was Joanna Bourne’s Spymaster series, but I don’t think it fits. Do you recognize this book?

I don’t know this one, but I hope someone does, because it sounds like Sarah M catnip. 🙂

  2. Sandra says:

Shana Galen has a series that starts with Lord and Lady Spy. It’s a rework of Mr & Mrs Smith. They’re married spies, who don’t know their spouse is also a spy. They end up competing for the same position. It’s OK, but I didn’t care enough about the book to continue with the series.

The HABO is definitely not Bourne, but read her anyway if you haven’t. You won’t regret it.

  3. snakeling says:

The Bastion Club, by Stephanie Laurens? I can’t remember #3, but I basically inhaled them over a week last year, so I don’t remember much of the plots.

  4. Virginia E says:

While some clues look more like Galen’s spy series, the mysterious leader is definitely a key point in Laurens’ Bastion Club series. None of his men know his real name/title and no one in the Ton is allowed to speak his name. Book 3, A Lady of His Own, does include a female spy.

  5. Olivia says:

Celeste Bradley or Stephanie Laurens, but definitely not Galen. I haven’t read her stuff in a while but I’ve definitely read this.

  6. Petra says:

Is it possibly one of Celeste Bradley’s spy series? She has two and they both might fit the bill. Here’s one with a female who’s trying to be a spy: One Night With a Spy (Royal Four Book 3) by Celeste Bradley

    *meant Bourne, oops

  8. Pamela says:

You guys are awesome! It’s definitely the Celeste Bradley series. Thanks so much!

  9. Jacqueline says:

    Lauren Willig Pink Carnation Series

  10. Karenmc says:

I KNEW this one! That’s a pretty good series, BTW.

  11. elaanfaun says:

I FINALLY know one and I got beat to it. Dang!

  12. Valerie says:

I would agree that is sounds like Celeste Bradley or Stephanie Laurens.

  13. Veronika says:

Celeste Bradley. Definitely. I am so excited that I knew this. Loved the series.

  14. For anyone looking for more spies, I read and liked Jenna Petersen’s Lady Spies trilogy a few years ago. Might be time to reread…

  15. HannahS says:

    Oh dang!

I finally knew a HABO and it’s already been solved! I loved Celeste Bradleys two series revolving around the Liars Club, spying, etc.

  16. Stacey says:

Drat! I knew this one but was too slow. Celeste Bradley’s spy books are great, a little on the light and fluffy side, but totally fun. I also second Joanna Bourne. Hers are darker, grittier, but so, so good.

  17. JennyOH says:

I had thought of Shanna Galen’s series, too, and I really, really liked that Bourne book (it felt very different from most of the historicals I’ve read, though I can’t put my finger on exactly why. Also, most literally ass-kicking heroine EVER) so I’m glad this got figured out! Going to try this Bradley series!
