Contemporaries with Dancing, Inns in Boonsboro and Bollywood

  • Come Dancing

    Come Dancing by Leslie Wells

Come Dancing by Leslie Wells is .99 right now. This is book one of the Jack & Julia series, and it’s got a 3.7-star average. Many of you have mentioned this book favorably in the comments, too. It’s a contemporary set in New York in the 80s, and there’s some serious catnip in the description, too.

It’s 1981. Twenty-four-year-old Julia Nash has recently arrived in Manhattan, where she works as a publisher’s assistant. She dreams of becoming an editor with her own stable of bestselling authors—but it is hard to get promoted in the recession-clobbered book biz.

Julia blows off steam by going dancing downtown with her best friend, Vicky. One night, a hot British guitarist invites them into his VIP section. Despite an entourage of models and groupies, Jack chooses Julia as his girl for the evening—and when Jack Kipling picks you, you go with it. The trouble is … he’s never met a girl like her before. And she resists being just one in a long line.

Jack exposes her to new experiences, from exclusive nightclubs in SoHo to the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood; from mind-bending recording sessions to wild backstage parties. Yet Julia is afraid to fall for him. Past relationships have left her fragile; one more betrayal just might break her.

As she fends off her grabby boss and tries to move up the corporate ladder, Julia’s torrid relationship with Jack takes her to heights she’s never known—and plunges her into depths she’s never imagined.

  • Keep Dancing

    Keep Dancing by Leslie Wells

Keep Dancing by Leslie Wells is .99. This is book two in the Jack & Julia series – so you can get both for $2! Nice! This sequel has a 4.1-star average, and continues their love story as Julia is on tour with Jack.

Julia is a young book editor on the rise. Jack is a British rock star at the pinnacle of his fame.

Can they both get what they want—when what they need threatens to tear them apart?
It’s January, 1982. Twenty-four-year-old Julia Nash has just moved in with her boyfriend, rock and roll guitarist extraordinaire Jack Kipling. Their connection deepens as Jack takes her to England to meet his intimidating mother, and afterwards to a private Caribbean island for a sensual retreat.

But back in New York City, they hit a turbulent patch. Julia is in the running for a new job, while Jack prepares for a thirty-city tour and butts heads with the band’s lead singer. Things get more chaotic when Jack’s six-year-old nephew comes for a visit, Julia makes a disastrous attempt at cooking, and a new puppy wreaks havoc in the penthouse. Although free-spirited Jack likes to keep things loose, he craves more support on the home front. But Julia isn’t sure if she can ever be a domestic goddess—or if her wild boyfriend can ever be domesticated.

On tour, Julia experiences the glittering excesses of private jets, mind-blowing concerts, shocking hotel room antics, and screaming headlines. Back home, she has to decide if their relationship can withstand the ravages of fame and conflicting interests—not to mention a suave bestselling author who seems to like more than her grammar sense. And when her long-lost father resurfaces, the bookish young woman must choose whether to listen to her heart, or to her head.

Hilarious, entertaining and steamy, Keep Dancing will delight brand-new readers as a stand-alone novel, and serves up even more of what fans raved about in Come Dancing, the first book about Jack and Julia.

  • A Bollywood Affair

A Bollywood Affair by Sonali Dev

A Bollywood Affair by Sonali Dev is still $2.99. This is one of the best books I read last year, it was a Book Club pick, it’s a RITA® nominee, and the manuscript was a Golden Heart nominee, too. It was in the DABWAHA tournament, too. This book is normally $9+, and the discount should be ending soon. It would make a lovely gift for a reader you know!

Mili Rathod hasn’t seen her husband in twenty years—not since she was promised to him at the age of four. Yet marriage has allowed Mili a freedom rarely given to girls in her village. Her grandmother has even allowed her to leave India and study in America for eight months, all to make her the perfect modern wife. Which is exactly what Mili longs to be—if her husband would just come and claim her.

Bollywood’s favorite director, Samir Rathod, has come to Michigan to secure a divorce for his older brother. Persuading a naïve village girl to sign the papers should be easy for someone with Samir’s tabloid-famous charm. But Mili is neither a fool nor a gold-digger. Open-hearted yet complex, she’s trying to reconcile her independence with cherished traditions. And before he can stop himself, Samir is immersed in Mili’s life—cooking her dal and rotis, escorting her to her roommate’s elaborate Indian wedding, and wondering where his loyalties and happiness lie.

  • Highland Velvet

    Highland Velvet by Jude Deveraux

Highland Velvet by Jude Deveraux is a Kindle Daaily Deal today at $1.99 – and it’s being price matched. WOO! Deveraux is a much-loved author of historicals that were the gateway into romance for many readers. This book was originally published in 1982, and is a Scottish historical with 4+ stars. The heroine in this book is the laird of her clan (I know, I know – just go with it) and has viciously little interest in being married to the hero, who is English. The hero, however, is incredible: he changes his world view for the heroine, and undergoes any number of challenges to prove himself to her. It’s a bit of a trip back in the history of romance, but this book is a powerful one.

Bronwyn MacArran was a proud Scot. Stephen Montgomery was one of the hated English.

He came to Scotland as a conqueror, saw her beauty and was vanquished. But still she would abhor him.

She owned a temper hot enough to forge the armors of battle or inflame a valiant soldier’s passion. Yet still she would resist him.

She became his reason to live, his reason to love. And still she would deny him.

But while clan fought clan, while brother took up sword against brother, and the highlands ran with blood — their destiny was made…and this mighty warrior pledged himself to his woman’s pride, her honor and her name — and made of their love a torch to burn through the ages!

  1. Lovecow2000 says:

Highland Velvet was one of the first romance novels I ever read and I so remember falling in love with Stephen and admiring Bronwyn’s fiestiness. One detail that stuck in my 12-year old brain was that Bronwyn’s legs were especially sensitive and errogenous zones? Anyone else remember that?

  2. DonnaMarie says:

Oh, I still remembert the scene where Bronwyn’s watching out a window as her clansmen tease Stephen about his kilt. Loved the Velvet books!!

Y’all might be interested to know that the audiobook for The Bollywood Affair is currently on Scribd.

  4. hillary l. says:

Just finished The Bollywood Affair, which is quite good, and devastated to find that the author’s next book isn’t releasing until September. Consoling myself with Shona Patel’s Teatime for the Firefly, which is also on sale.
