Contemporaries with Rugby Players, Rockstars, & More

  • Knowing the Score

Knowing the Score by Kat Latham

Knowing the Score by Kat Latham is 99c! This is a contemporary sports romance – set in the world of rugby. It has a 3.7 average, and readers at GR liked the humor and the dialogue between the hero and heroine (though some reviews warn of a slow start to the story). Kat Latham also made an appearance in this year’s DABWAHA tournament!

Rugby player Spencer Bailey is determined to win a spot on England’s World Cup team. But with a month break before the selectors start watching him, he’s eager to have fun with a woman who knows the score: the relationship will end when rugby season begins. The lovely American Caitlyn Sweeney seems perfect for the role of temporary lover, since her visa will run out soon anyway.

Caitlyn works for an international disaster relief organization and can handle the world’s worst crises, but she flinches from her own. Her past has left her with a fear of intimacy so deep that she has trouble getting close to anyone—until she meets sexy Spencer. His hot body and easygoing nature are too much for even her to resist.

Neither Caitlyn nor Spencer expects to fall hard for each other. But with their relationship deadline approaching, the old rules of the game seem less important than before…until past secrets surface, challenging everything they thought they knew about each other.

  • Caught in the Act

Caught in the Act by Sara Jane Stone

Caught in the Act by Sara Jane Stone is $2.99! This is the second book in the Independence Falls contemporary romance series. We featured the first book, Full Exposure, on sale last October, and it seems like the full series may be on sale. Instead of the best friend’s little sister trope. The heroine is the sister of the hero’s rival. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

Falling for his rivals’ little sister could cost him everything…

For Liam Trulane, failure is not an option. He is determined to win a place in Katie Summers’ life before she leaves Independence Falls for good. But first, he needs to make amends for the last time they got down and dirty.

    Only problem?

His professional success hinges on striking a deal to buy Katie’s family business. And after Liam’s relationship with their Katie went south years ago, the Summers brothers are more enemy than friend. If both parties agree to set the past aside, they can reach an understanding. But when Katie welcomes him back into her bed, Liam risks everything to make herhis.

After Liam betrayed her trust, Katie Summers will do anything to keep him from walking away with the family business. She decides to seduce him, knowing that when her brothers find out, they will back off from the deal. And she’ll finally have her revenge. But when her plan spirals out of control, Katie learns that payback may come at too high a price…

  • What Goes on Tour

What Goes on Tour by Claire Boston

What Goes on Tour by Claire Boston is a freebie today! We all need a free book (or five) on Monday mornings. This is the first book in the Texan Quartet series. A former nerd turned rockstar becomes the guardian of his niece. The heroine is an author, but takes a job as the niece’s nanny to pay the bills. I should also note that the jacket copy references the possibility of a child in peril. Has anyone read this one?

What goes on tour, stays on tour … or does it?

Few people know that socially awkward Adrian Hart is actually rock god Kent Downer, and that’s the way Adrian likes it. His privacy is essential, especially now that he has guardianship of his orphaned, ten-year-old niece, Kate. But when the nanny quits in the middle of his tour Adrian finds himself in a bind.

Until Libby Myles walks into his life.

Libby has only ever wanted to become a full-time author and prove to her parents that she can make it on her own. On the surface, the temporary job as the nanny for Kent Downer’s niece looks perfect—the pay is fabulous, the hours are short and Kate is a big fan—it’s the rock star that’s the issue.

Arrogant and way too attractive for anyone’s good, Kent Downer has enough swagger to power a small city. But when he’s out of costume he’s different—shy and uncertain. For Libby it’s a far harder combination to resist. She needs to find a balance between work, writing and ignoring her attraction to the rock star, because if she falls for him, it could mean the end of her dream.

But when a horrible scandal is unleashed—putting young Kate in danger—there’s more heat between Libby and Adrian than just sexual attraction. Libby must figure out if Adrian ever cared for her, or if it was all just part of the show …

  1. Kate says:

The first two books in Sharon Kay Penman’s Welsh Trilogy, “Here Be Dragons” and “Falls the Shadow” are $4.99 on Amazon right now. Penman’s books rarely dropped below $10, so this is a great deal!

  2. Vicki says:

@Kate – they are price matched and B&N

  3. CP (Cordy) says:

I just noticed that My Steadfast Heart by Jo Goodman is free on Kindle right now. I’ve really enjoyed the couple of Goodman books I’ve read, but they’re also maybe the only romances I’ve ever read where I occasionally think “this may be too much showing, not enough telling” as I invariably lag behind the characters in working out everyone’s motivations. They’re very smart books, in kind of low-key, easy-to-overlook ways. I see that Amazon reviews are both “yay, five stars, best ever!” and “I couldn’t always understand what was happening”. Which, sometimes, is just what I want! It’s sometimes so enjoyable to be a little bit left in the dust by a book that knows what it’s doing.
