No foolin’, there are a lot of books we’re excited about. Here are some of the books we’re looking forward to – what about you?

  • Four Nights with the Duke

Four Nights with the Duke by Eloisa James

    Author: Eloisa James
Released: March 31, 2015 by Avon
    Genre: ,
    Series: Desperate Duchesses #8

As a young girl, Emilia Gwendolyn Carrington told the annoying future Duke of Pindar that she would marry any man in the world before him—so years later she is horrified to realize that she has nowhere else to turn.

Evander Septimus Brody has his own reasons for agreeing to Mia’s audacious proposal, but there’s one thing he won’t give his inconvenient wife: himself.

Instead, he offers Mia a devil’s bargain…he will spend four nights a year with her. Four nights, and nothing more. And those only when she begs for them.

    Which Mia will never do.

Now Vander faces the most crucial challenge of his life: he must seduce his own wife in order to win her heart—and no matter what it takes, this is the one battle he can’t afford to lose.

Elyse says: I listed this for March too because the release date is the last day of the month.I LOVE THIS SERIES LIKE CHOCOLATE.

Sarah adds: In publishing, the last day of the month is the next month, and the last day of the year is the following year, because publishing is very strange, and people in editorial and acquisitions are probably writing 2016 on their checks without meaning to.

Released: March 31, 2015 by Avon
    Genre: ,
    Series: Pennyroyal Green #10

Lord Philippe Lavay once took to the high seas armed with charm as lethal as his sword and a stone-cold conviction: he’ll restore his family’s fortune and honor, no matter the cost. Victory is at last within reach–when a brutal attack snatches it from his grasp and lands him in Pennyroyal Green.

An afternoon of bliss brings a cascade of consequences for Elise Fountain. Shunned by her family and ousted from a job she loves, survival means a plummet down the social ladder to a position no woman has yet been able to keep: housekeeper to a frighteningly formidable prince.

Now a man who thought he could never love and a woman who thought she would never again trust must fight an incendiary passion that could be the ruin of them both.

Elyse says: This is another series I really love. It’s also a Cinderella story with a heroine named–wait for it–Elise

  • Jinn and Juice

Jinn and Juice by Nicole Peeler

    Author: Nicole Peeler
Released: April 7, 2015 by Orbit
    Genre:
    Series: The Jinni #1

Cursed to be a jinni for a thousand years, Leila nears the end of her servitude—only to be bound once again against her will. Will she risk all to be human?

Born in ancient Persia, Leila turned to her house Jinni, Kouros, for help escaping an arranged marriage. Kouros did make it impossible for her to marry—by cursing Leila to live a thousand years as a Jinni herself.

If she can remain unBound, Leila’s curse will soon be over. But Ozan Sawyer, a Magi with the ability to See, Call, and Bind jinn has other plans.
Oz needs Leila to help him penetrate Pittsburgh’s steel-soaked magic, a juice potent but poisonous to supernatural creatures, in order to find a missing girl with her own mysterious connection to Kouros. Unfortunately for Leila, becoming Bound to Oz may risk more than just her chance to be human once more—it could risk her very soul…

Sarah says: I heard Nicole Peeler talk about this book at the What is Love conference at the Library of Congress. The heroine is a jinni and the whole thing takes place in Pittsburgh – because steel plays a role in the worldbuilding. MY HOMETOWN has URBAN FANTASY in it. I can’t tell you how giddy that idea makes me. So I’m really excited to read this book and tell all the readers I know in Pittsburgh about it, too.

Note: It seems the book may have been released digitally earlier, but this is its first time in paperback.

  • The Royal We

The Royal We by Heather Cocks

    Author: Heather Cocks
Released: April 7, 2015 by Grand Central Publishing
    Genre: , , ,

In their first adult novel, authors Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan take on a story of romance and rivalries inspired by today’s most talked-about royal couple: Will and Kate.

If I’m Cinderella today, I dread who they’ll think I am tomorrow. I guess it depends on what I do next.”

American Rebecca Porter was never one for fairy-tales. Her twin sister Lacey was always the romantic, the one who daydreamed of being a princess. But it’s adventure-seeking Bex who goes to Oxford and meets dreamy Nick across the hall – and thus Bex who accidentally finds herself in love with the eventual heir to the British throne. Nick is everything she could have imagined, but Prince Nicholas has unimaginable baggage: grasping friends, a thorny family, hysterical tabloids tracking his every move, and a public that expected its future king to marry a native. On the eve of the most talked-about wedding of the century, Bex reflects on what she’s sacrificed for love — and exactly whose heart she may yet have to break.

Redheadedgirl says: The Fug Girls delightful and addicting alternate history of Wills and Kate!

  • Cognitive Cooking with Chef Watson

Cognitive Cooking with Chef Watson by IBM

    Author: IBM
Released: April 14, 2015 by Sourcebooks
    Genre:

You don’t have to be a culinary genius to be a great cook. But when it comes to thinking outside the box, even the best chefs can be limited by their personal experiences, the tastes and flavor combinations they already know. That’s why IBM and the Institute of Culinary Education teamed up to develop a groundbreaking cognitive cooking technology that helps cooks everywhere discover and create delicious recipes, utilizing unusual ingredient combinations that man alone might never imagine.

In Cognitive Cooking with Chef Watson, IBM’s unprecedented technology and ICE’s culinary experts present more than 65 original recipes exploding with irresistible new flavors. Together, they have carefully crafted, evaluated and perfected each of these dishes for “pleasantness” (superb taste), “surprise” (innovativeness) and a “synergy” of mouthwatering ingredients that will delight any food lover.

Sprinkled throughout the book are cooking tips from the pros at ICE, entertaining anecdotes on the various stages of IBM and ICE’s collaboration and ideas for home cooks to expand their repertoires or spice up current favorites. From Chef Watson’s first recipe ever, the Spanish Almond Crescent, to Creole Shrimp-Lamb Dumplings, Italian-Pumpkin Cheesecake, and Hoof-and-Honey Ale, Cognitive Cooking with Chef Watson introduces home cooks and professional chefs to a whole new world of culinary possibilities.

Amanda says: A computer puts together recipes. HOW COOL IS THAT?!

  • Of Noble Family

Of Noble Family by Mary Robinette Kowal

    Author: Mary Robinette Kowal
Released: April 28, 2015 by Tor Books
    Genre: , ,
    Series: Glamourist Histories #5

The final book of the acclaimed Glamourist Histories is the magical adventure that might result if Jane Austen walked on the darker side of the Regency…

Jane and Vincent have finally gotten some much-needed rest after their adventures in Italy when Vincent receives word that his estranged father has passed away on one of his properties in the West Indies. His brother, who manages the estate, is overwhelmed, and no one else in his family can go. Grudgingly, out of filial duty the couple decide to go.

The sea voyage is long and Jane spends enough time unable to perform glamour that towards the end of the trip she discovers that she is with child. They are overjoyed, but when they finally arrive at the estate to complete what they expect to be routine legal tasks, they realize that nearly everything they came expecting to find had been a lie. Also, the entire estate is in disarray, with horrifying conditions and tensions with the local slave population so high that they are close to revolt.

Jane and Vincent’s sense of peril is screaming out for them to flee, but Vincent cannot stand to leave an estate connected with his family in such a condition. They have survived many grand and terrifying adventures in their time, but this one will test their skills and wits more than any they have ever encountered before, this time with a new life hanging in the balance.

Carrie says: This is the conclusion of the series about Jane and Vincent. The series has been delightful in portraying first a courtship and then a marriage. Also, I know that Kowal put a lot of effort into the multi-cultural aspects of the book and I’m looking forward to seeing how they play out.

  • Overruled

    Overruled by Emma Chase

    Author: Emma Chase
Released: April 28, 2015 by Gallery Books
    Genre: ,
    Series: The Legal Briefs #1

As a DC defense attorney, Stanton Shaw keeps his head cool, his questions sharp, and his arguments irrefutable. They don’t call him the Jury Charmer for nothing – with his southern drawl, disarming smile and captivating green eyes – he’s a hard man to say no to. Men want to be him and women want to be thoroughly cross examined by him.

Stanton’s a man with a plan. And for a while, life was going according to that plan.

Until the day he receives an invitation to the wedding of his high school sweetheart and mother of his beloved ten-year old daughter. Jenny is getting married — to someone who isn’t him.

That’s definitely not part of the plan.

Sofia Santos is a city raised, no-nonsense litigator who plans to become the most revered criminal defense attorney in the country. She doesn’t have time for relationships or distractions.

But when Stanton, her “friend with mind-blowing benefits” begs for help, she finds herself out of her element, out of her depth, and obviously out of her mind. Because she agrees to go with him – to The-Middle-Of-Nowhere, Mississippi – to do all she can to help Stanton win back the woman he loves.

Her head tells her she’s crazy…and her heart says something else entirely.

What happens when you mix a one stop-light town, two professional arguers, a homecoming queen, four big brothers, some Jimmy Dean sausage and a gun-toting Nana?

The Bourbon flows, passions rise and even the best laid plans get overruled by the desires of the heart.

Amanda says: A southern lawyer hero, yes please. Though let’s be real, fishnets in the courtroom?

Eloisa James’ novels are insta-buys for me. I started it last night and I just couldn’t stop reading it!
About 70% in now, and I wish I can make it last longer…

  2. Darlynne says:

SB Sarah, although it’s urban fantasy, Wen Spencer’s TINKER series takes place in future Pittsburgh. It’s very cool.

  3. Elinor Aspen says:

The Gina Lamm novel sounds a lot like Katharine Ashe’s novella “How Angela Got Her Rogue Back” from the At the Duke’s Wedding anthology. That story also involves a modern woman suddenly sent back in time to the Regency, a comic book artist, and a memorable scene in the pond.

  4. LenoreJ says:

April, aka Budget Buster month. Just bought my first iBook because I Must Read Sherry Thomas’ contemporary!

  5. roserita says:

Shelly Laurenston’s The Unleashing came out yesterday. I am forcing myself to be a responsible adult and not rush out to grab it until tomorrow. (I really HATE being a responsible adult.)

  6. I’m so sorry to pop in to say that my book actually won’t be released until April 21. A little timing issue with my agent’s digital liaison, who will be out on vacation the week of April 6. The liaison uploads to places like Nook and Google for me and it’s totally my fault for just assuming she’d be there.

    LenoreJ,

    Thank you very much!

  7. Jill says:

Hanging out for Claire Boston’s “All That Sparkles” which is coming out on 23rd April. It is the next in the Texan Quartet series.

Got some time set aside for la Nora’s and Amanda Quick/JAK’s latests but they may have to wait since, holey moley, Sherry Thomas wrote a contemporary!!! Nom, nom, nom.

  9. Heather S says:

I bought a ton of books from Dreamspinner Press – they’re having a fabulous 50% off paperback sale! I also picked up “Captive Prince” in paperback – my local Books A Million got a couple of copies a week early. 🙂

  10. Karin says:

I am so eagerly awaiting “Of Noble Family”. “Just One Taste” which is an anthology of Maggie Robinson short stories and novellas, was released today, only 99. And “Beauty and the Rake” by Erica Monroe will be released on April 21st, until then it’s also only .99! It’s a reverse Beauty and the Beast story.

I forget what blog I was on but the first seven chapters of The Royal We were available free on Amazon. Out of curiosity–and, you know, it was free–I downloaded the chapters. I was pleasantly surprised, what I read was really good. In my cart it goes!
