Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: She Hit the Saw With the Hammer – Not a Euphemism

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

This HaBO is from Sue, who is looking for a Harlequin category she read a long time ago:

I have no idea why this book stuck with me for upwards of 20 years but it did. I have no idea if it is actually good but I’d love to track it down and reread it. I’m pretty sure it was a Harlequin of some kind. Sorry I can’t be more specific.

The woman’s name is, I think, Sahara and she is a famous model. She has a car accident in a snowstorm whilst driving in Canada(?). She walks to the nearest place and there is a saw and hammer hanging on the front porch. She assumes that she is supposed to hit the saw with the hammer to ring the doorbell.

She does and the very loud noise startles the Very Hot Man (VHM) inside who happens to be, at that moment, doing some kind of home maintenance while perched precariously on a chair. He falls and breaks his arm. I can’t remember why she can’t take his vehicle but they end up trapped together for several days.

The VHM is a reclusive author who wants nothing to do with a famous model or a nosy person invading his privacy. Sahara wanting not to be recognized either uses a different name and occupation. Misleads ensue. And, of course, attraction.

Any guesses as to the book?

I’m completely tickled by the idea of “hit the saw with the hammer to ring the doorbell.” Every time I read it I start laughing.  Do you recognize this book?

I don’t know the book, but I’d think the snowstorm would be a likely culprit on why she can’t just take his car.

I haven’t read this book, but I did find this detailed review and I think it is the book you are looking for. Outlaw Heart by Quinn Wilder.

She hit the saw with the hammer – Not a Euphemism… Absolutely CLASSIC! I will be giggling madly about this for days!

  4. Carenlb says:

I’m thinking that anyone who thinks to use a saw and hammer to ring a doorbell probably doesn’t need to be driving in the snow. Just a thought.

I love a good stranded together story!

  6. Dibs says:

Okay, I’ve got it. Hitting the saw with the hammer is not a euphemism.
But it could be, right? In another book? Because I really might want to read THAT book.

  7. MaryK says:

But … maybe there wasn’t a doorbell so she thought the saw and hammer were used instead like a dinner gong. 🙂

  8. Carol says:

@Sue, Did Chinami find your book?

    @MaryK, That’s what I thought.

  9. Sue says:

@chinami I think that is it!!! I bought the book so I can see if the hammer/saw scene is as I remembered. Thank you so much. What fun.
