Erotica from Reisz, Black, & More

  • The Saint

    The Saint by Tiffany Reisz

The Saint by Tiffany Reisz is $1.99! This is an erotic romance and acts as a prequel series to her Original Sinners series. I’m not sure if it’s better to read these before Original Sinners (this “prequel series” technically was published after the first series), or after to augment your knowledge of the characters. I adored reading The Siren ( A | BN | K | G | AB | Au ) and Elyse gave the book a great review, so I won’t turn down more of Nora and Søren. Any other fans of the series in the Bitchery?

In the beginning, there was him.

Gutsy, green-eyed Eleanor never met a rule she didn’t want to break. She’s sick of her mother’s zealotry and the confines of Catholic school, and declares she’ll never go to church again. But her first glimpse of beautiful, magnetic Father Søren Stearns and his lust-worthy Italian motorcycle is an epiphany. Suddenly, daily Mass seems like a reward, and her punishment is the ache she feels when they’re apart. He is intelligent and insightful and he seems to know her intimately at her very core. Eleanor is consumed—and even she knows that can’t be right.

But when one desperate mistake nearly costs Eleanor everything, it is Søren who steps in to save her. She vows to repay him with complete obedience…and a whole world opens before her as he reveals to her his deepest secrets.

Danger can be managed—pain, welcomed. Everything is about to begin.

  • Wicked Ties

    Wicked Ties by Shayla Black

Wicked Ties by Shayla Black is $1.99! This is the first book in the Wicked Lovers erotic romance series and if the series name seems familiar, that’s because the second book was part of one of the best reviews in SBTB history. I liked the first book well enough, giving it a three out of five on my own personal GoodReads. There also does seem to be a contention on whether the hero is practicing a healthy D/s or otherwise BDSM relationship. It has a 4-star rating on GoodReads.

She didn’t know what she wanted…

Morgan O’Malley has seen a lot of kinky things as the hostess of a cable sex talk show. But she’s never met a man like Jack Cole before. A self-proclaimed dominant, he’s as alpha as a male can get—and good for Morgan to have around when an obsessed stalker ratchets up his attempts to get to her.

Until he made her beg for it.

Though Jack is a bodyguard, Morgan feels anything but safe in his presence because, slowly and seductively, Jack is bringing her deepest fantasies to the surface. And when he bends her to his will, what’s more shocking than her surrender is how much she enjoys it—and starts to crave his masterful touch. A willing player in Jack’s games, Morgan knows that his motives aren’t pure, but she has no idea how personal they are…

  • S.E.C.R.E.T.

    S.E.C.R.E.T. by L. Marie Adeline

SECRET by L. Marie Adeline is $1.99! This is the first book in an erotic trilogy in which a woman discovers a secret sex society dedicated to ladies getting their goods (IF YOU KNOW WHAT I’M SAYING). Several readers weren’t big fans of the heroine, while others enjoyed the concept of a group of women dedicated to helping others get their groove back. Has anyone tried this series at all?

    In S∙E∙C∙R∙E∙T there are…

No judgments. No limits. No shame.

Cassie Robichaud’s life has been filled with regret and loneliness since the death of her husband. She waits tables at the run-down Café Rose in New Orleans, and every night she heads home to her cat and solitary one-bedroom apartment. But when she discovers a notebook left behind by a mysterious woman at the café, Cassie’s world is forever changed. The notebook’s stunningly explicit confessions shock and fascinate Cassie, and eventually lead her to S∙E∙C∙R∙E∙T, an underground society dedicated to helping women realize their wildest, most intimate sexual fantasies. Cassie soon immerses herself in an electrifying ten-step journey through a series of rapturous fantasies with gorgeous men who awaken and satisfy her like never before. As she is set free from her inhibitions, she discovers a new confidence that transforms her, giving her the courage to live passionately. Equal parts enticing, liberating, and emotionally powerful, S∙E∙C∙R∙E∙T is a world where erotic fantasy becomes reality.

  • Committed

    Committed by Sidney Bristol

Committed by Sidney Bristol is 99c and is the first book in an erotic romantic suspense series! And additionally, I always find Random House’s Loveswept line to be a great place to find new authors without dropping a fortune. Several readers note that they loved the interracial couple and their interactions together (huzzah for diversity), though the plot felt a little thin. They do go to a BDSM retreat after all. This book has a 3.7-star rating on GoodReads.

In this erotic tale of sensuality and suspense, Sidney Bristol proves that desire can be the most dangerous drug of all.

DEA Special Agent Damien Moana works hard and plays even harder. But while indulging in forbidden temptations at a private BDSM retreat, the unexpected happens: He falls under a stranger’s spell. This woman drives Damien to distraction, pushing him to the sweet boundary between pain and pleasure. When duty interrupts their heated encounter, his focus turns to catching a criminal . . . but his head is still with the seductress who ignites his deepest desires. Now Damien must choose between closing the case of his career and losing the woman of his dreams.

Poppy Mercer can’t forget the night she spent with her mystery lover. When chance brings them back together, she seizes the opportunity to again feel his masterful hands on her body. Poppy is a switch who delights in dominating a powerful man . . . and submitting to the ecstasy of his control. Outside the bedroom, however, she questions her place in Damien’s world. His obsession with hunting a ruthless drug lord puts Poppy in the line of fire. And though Damien might be able to save her from danger, salvaging what’s left of her trust is another matter.

Not sure if it’s relevant, but the S-E_C-R-E-T books are sold at the adult novelty/dvd/clothing store Badd Kitty https://www.baddkitty.net/ down in South Carolina (along with a couple of other erotic books).

  2. Lammie says:

Read the Original Sinners series first, before you read what happened to the characters in the prequels. They are told as flashbacks, and you will spoil yourself if you read them first. Read them in the order they were published. They are great books, and I enjoyed them immensely.

  4. Why is it so difficult for me to find erotica that I enjoy? I’m a fairly kinky and adventurous person, so you’d think that I’d be able to find tons of books that I’d like, but the vast majority of the erotica that I’ve read has had either stunningly unhealthy relationship dynamics or a really fucked-up view of various kinks. I’ve completely given up on reading BDSM-themed books because there’s such a disconnect between reality and depiction.

How the hell can authors make something so enjoyable seem so unappealing? Am I just reading terrible erotica? Am I asking too much? Why does it seem like some non-erotica romance authors are so much better at writing sex scenes? And perhaps most importantly, can anyone recommend erotica that is similar thematically to Victoria Dahl’s Looking for Trouble? Because that was some crazy hot non-BDSM but still kinky sex writing.

  5. Cecilia says:

One of the things I wanted to ask SBTB, sooner or later, were some recommendations for erotica romances that didn’t dwell on BDSM, or D/s, paranormal or billionaires: erotica between normal people. D/s does nothing for me but turn me cold.

  6. jaymzangel says:

Rereading the LOLPORN review made me laugh so hard I bent forward to wheeze & smacked my head on the desk. Candy’s review never gets old. Thanks for that!

  7. Milly says:

@dread pirate rachel have you tried Joey W Hill? Very kinky and well written. I also just gobbled up Carly Phillips’ Dare to series. LH Cosway is another new to me author that I’m devouring. For lighter fare I passed on RL Mathewson’s Neighbours from Hell series (very funny) to a friend who only reads paranormal and I think I may have turned her into a contemporary reader with that one. Happy reading!

    @ Dread Pirate Rachel

    @ cecilia

Deanna Lee did an “erotic” series that I enjoyed. It’s been forever but I seem to recall great sex without sacrificing the plot and the people were all mostly normal. (Normal = not too angsty, not that any of us can claim to be “normal”.) Most are interracial couples I think and the kink factor is low but the heat is there. Not funny like Dahl (I haven’t read the most recent series yet but I think she’s generally a little on the funny side, no?), but engaging.

    Undressing Mercy
    Barenaked Jane
    Exposing Casey
    Sweet Surrender

As I said, it’s been a while but I remember for sure that I always looked forward to the next book.

  9. Coco says:

    Oh, and normal = human!

  10. Coco says:

Also, I think a few may have had therapy too.

  11. Coco says:

    Sorry! that’s the other thread.

    I’ll stop now.

  12. Charlotte Russell says:

@Cecilia Yes! I’ve been a historical reader forever, not really into contemporary unless it’s romantic suspense, but I’ve recently discovered I like SOME spicier contemporaries. But not BDSM and definitely not billionaires (both just not my thing, but if they are yours, enjoy!). I tried Charlotte Stein and she didn’t work for me, or at least Intrusion didn’t. Going to try Victoria Dahl this weekend.

  13. Persnickety says:

I enjoy Justine Elyot’s erotica. She does have some BDSM, but generally on the more realistic level (real people and experimentation) and it is mostly normal people. Where there are wealthy characters, they are not of the charismatic billionaire with a secret type.

I liked the business of pleasure the best and did not enjoy the one set in a seaside town (cannot recall the name) but there is a nice range of different stories.

  14. cleo says:

@thedreadpiraterachel – have you tried Dahl’s Wicked West? I think it’s her only bdsm romance and it’s awesome, imo.

  15. Linnet says:

Are there any good BDSM novels/novellas with dominant women? I was so excited to see this post, only to discover that it’s all dominant males, as per usual. I normally turn to well-written fan fiction for well-written kink, but most of it is slash (male/male), so it hasn’t satsified my need for hot but tender femdom.

Why don’t someone write a book about a badboy billionaire (inexplicably in his 20s, because this is romance) with submissive yearnings and the 30-something female divorcee who starts out as the one PA who doesn’t take his shit, and over the course of the novel, they explore the whole D/s things together and end up loving each other and becoming better people in the process?

    I would so read that.

  16. SB Sarah says:

    @Linnet:

One of my favorites is by Joey W. Hill, “Natural Law.” It’s an EC book, but the female domme, Violet, is amazing. There are a few dommes in Hill’s backlist, now that I think about it. “Natural Law” was the first BDSM/erotic romance I ever read and I remember my face being on fire past my hairline as I read it on the bus.

  17. @Milly,

I started Hill’s Natural Law and didn’t finish it. I didn’t hate it or anything; it just didn’t keep my attention. I’ll pick it up again and see if I get any further in it. Maybe I was just not in the right frame of mind that day.

    @Coco,

I’ll have to check out Deanna Lee. I’ve actually never heard of her.

    @Cleo,

The only one of Dahl’s books I’ve read so far is Looking for Trouble, but I just found at least one more of her books in my Kindle stash. I have a feeling she’s going to go on my autobuy list.

    @SBTB community,

I’m trying to remember the title/author of the best book of erotica I’ve encountered so far. I’m fairly sure I found the recommendation here. It was a contemporary novella with a Russian expat hero (Ivan, maybe) who was, IIRC, recovering from some pretty serious trauma. The heroine was his neighbor who was hiding from an abusive, stalker ex. The relationship started as a voyeurism/exhibitionism thing–there was a lot of watching each other through windows and passing notes before they ever met in person. It was pretty dark in its exploration of psychology and trauma. Can anybody help me out? I went through my entire Kindle library and couldn’t find it. I’d like to reread it to see if it’s as amazing as I remember.

  18. SB Sarah says:

This comment is from Cordy, who was battling the spam filter:

I wanted to tell Dread Pirate Rachel (in the comments of that post about erotica books) that I’m pretty sure that the novella she can’t find is Charlotte Stein’s DEEP DESIRES:

    http://www.amazon.com/Deep-Desires-Charlotte-Stein-ebook/dp/B009GJLY4C/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8

Being book weirdos, you probably understand why it seems so important that DPR receive this crucial information. :p

  19. DonnaMarie says:

@DPR definitely give Joey Hill another try. Like you, I’m pretty much done with the BDSM theme, but certain writers, like Hill do it really well. @Linnet, the females characters are often the dominant. Her Vampire Queen series has some really great stories. There are also really good writers who write B/D w/o the S/M. Along those lines I’d recommend Jasmine Haynes.

If you want erotica without all the drama of BDSM, try Emma Holly. Her “Personal Assets” is just about the best erotic novel ever. If you’re looking for actual plot and characters she’s your girl. Her paranormals are iffy for me, but every contemporary she’s written has been a winner. Not that she doesn’t do BDSM, it’s just not the sum total of her ouvre.

  20. I really liked The Red Years Original Sinners books, and I think these should be read first, as the Reisz recommends: http://www.tiffanyreisz.com/faq/. I didn’t like The Saint as much as the first four books and haven’t decided if I’ll read the rest of the series. Will probably read The King and then decide…

  21. @Cordy via SBSarah,

Yes! That is the book! Thank you! I love this website.

  22. ML says:

@DPR: try Having Her by Jackie Ashenden. Not typical BDSM erotic romance, and really wonderful.

  23. […] bought this book when it was posted as a sale over at the SmartBitches the other day. There was no actual recommendation, only a mention that while the plot was somewhat thin, […]

  24. Jenny says:

@Linnet I cannot sing the praises of Cara McKenna’s novel “Unbound” enough. It features a (Scottish!) hero with a fetish for being tied up with rope, teased, and dominated, and a funny, friendly heroine who is new to kink but very open-minded. “Unbound” is probably my favorite piece of erotic romance ever. I would be reading it and just get up and exclaim “SOOOO GOOOOD”. In addition to being hot (the sex scenes are plentiful, but don’t dominate [heh] the entire book), it’s also a very emotional, deeply touching read.

  25. maybeimamazed02 says:

Just finished S.E.C.R.E.T. and loved it. I liked the heroine’s journey to empowerment a lot, and found the sex scenes really, really hot. Especially the one with Jesse the pastry chef. Mmmm.

  26. maybeimamazed02 says:

Also, the whole S.E.C.R.E.T. trilogy is $2.99 on B&N right now.
