Coupons and Contemporaries!

Scribd LogoToday we have two awesome coupons just for you, and some contemporaries, too! (I did not intend for that to rhyme.)

First: I’ve been using Scribd for three months free using a trial coupon from Harlequin. Now, we have a Scribd three month free trial coupon for Smart Bitches readers! Yay! Click that link and enter promo code “smartbitches” to get three months free (the code may already be entered if you use that link.)

You’ll have three months free access to the Scribd library of books and audiobooks, which includes a great heaping pile of books from HarperCollins, and through HC older Dorchester titles, and Harlequin. The coupon is valid until March 14, 2015 and is for new subscriber accounts only.

After the three month free trial, Scribd is flat fee $8.99 a month. If you’re thinking of doing the free trial, right after you sign up, set a calendar reminder for 10 or 11 weeks from now to ask yourself if you want to keep the subscription. If not, you can decline the renewal before you’re charged. (My reminder went off last week, and I totally kept my subscription because I love it.) I hope you’ll give Scribd a try, as I’m really enjoying it and find it very versatile. Thanks, Scribd!

But wait! More Coupon! If you use code SMARTBITCHES at the Harper Collins online bookstore, you will receive 20% off your entire purchase, plus free economy postal shipping on print titles.

The coupon isn’t stackable (meaning it can’t be combined with other offers or used on an already-discounted title) and is valid on HarperCollins titles in their store (i.e. not Harlequin titles in the Harlequin store). This coupon expires February 14, 2015. Thank you, Avon!

  • The Professional

    The Professional by Kresley Cole

The Professional by Kresley Cole is $2.99 right now at Amazon. Amanda reviewed this book when it came out and gave it a B-. She addressed the confusion over which genre this book is precisely, and wrote, “To put any inquiring minds at ease, it’s erotica. Less than forty pages in…it’s erotica. So there you go. And I’ve found that, in most erotica, sometimes things get a little ridiculous.

“Like a Siberian man kidnapping a woman to meet her biological father, who happens to be a Russian mob boss. I’m going to say this right now: it’s ridiculous. As I mentioned before, if you’re a reader who wants realism and slightly less camp, this might not be for you. But if you overlook its case of the weirds and WTF-IS-HAPPENING-RIGHT-NOW undertones, you’ll be fine.”

This book has a 4+ star average on GR, and is the first in a series of erotic contemporary. Thanks to Ellie for the heads up about this deal – she says she’s been waiting for this book to go on sale since Amanda’s review. Yay!

    He makes the rules…
Mafiya enforcer Aleksei “The Siberian” Sevastyan’s loyalty to his boss knows no bounds, until he meets the boss’s long-lost daughter, a curvy, feisty redhead who haunts his mind and heats his blood like no other. Ordered to protect her, Aleksei will do anything to possess her as well—on his own wicked terms.

Rules are made to be broken…
Grad student Natalie Porter had barely recovered from her first sight of the dark and breathtaking Sevastyan before the professional enforcer whisks her away to Russia, thrusting her into a world of extreme wealth and wanton pleasures. Every day under his protection leads her deeper under his masterful spell.

    Are you ready to play?
Yet all is not as it seems. To remove Natalie from an enemy’s reach, Sevastyan spirits her into hiding. From an opulent palace in Russia to the decadent playgrounds of the mega-wealthy in Paris, the two lovers will discover that even their darkest—and most forbidden—fantasies can come true…

  • Turning Thirty-Twelve

    Turning Thirty-Twelve by Sandy James

Turning Thirty-Twelve by Sandy James is .99c. This is an updated re-release of a contemporary romance with a Latina heroine who is 42 and a hero who is 48. It has a 4+ star average on GR, and readers really enjoyed the humor, though some thought the heroine was a bit too melodramatic.

Jackie Delgado didn’t want a new man in her life until a dreaded blind date turns out to be more exciting than she’d ever imagined. When her youngest son leaves for college, Jackie is hit hard by empty nest syndrome and pours herself into her work as a teacher. Bowing to pressure from friends, Jackie agrees to a blind date. But when Mark Brennan calls, she realizes the date won’t be “blind.” He’s the father of one of her students.

Widower Mark Brennan isn’t looking for love. After only a few dates with Jackie, he realizes he’s quickly forming deep feelings for her. Wracked with guilt that he’s “abandoning” his late wife, Mark resists the pull toward dynamic Jackie. When Mark’s daughter begins to date Jackie’s son, things become more complicated.

Can Jackie and Mark find the courage to leave the past behind and embrace a new love? And how will a surprise pregnancy affect all their lives?

  1. Terri says:

I tried the Scribd coupon code, but I keep getting an error message saying that the code is invalid. Is anyone else having this problem?

  2. Katie says:

    Same here, Terri!

  3. Mullgirl says:

Use all lowercase–that worked for me.

Also, and this is super fantastic, scribd includes audiobooks with the same subscription. I read tons, but I use audiobooks for workouts and my commute. I’ve been especially frustrated with one click audio which is the app most libraries use for their e-audiobooks–it’s virtually unusable. And I’m too cheap to pay $15 for audible for 1 book a month, so scribd’s audiobooks just might be my answer.

Thanks for putting this promo together!

  4. Mullgirl says:

Also, it’s only showing 60 days free, not 90.

  5. SB Sarah says:

First – my apologies for the capital letters – totally my fault. Also, I’m looking into the duration of the coupon now. Will update as soon as I receive confirmation.

  6. Mullgirl says:

If it helps, Sarah, the email receipt I received for signing up says 3 months and that my free time expires May 10. But if you click the Free Subscription link under your account, it shows the smartbitches coupon applied and it says “60 days earned”.

  7. SB Sarah says:

@Mullgirl – Thank you! That does help a lot. And is very confusing! I’ll find out what’s up. Thank you!

  8. Karenmc says:

I’m listening to the sublime Richard Armitage read Heyer’s “Sylvester” now, rather than letting my mind drift aimlessly through another afternoon at work (still getting the work done, though. Look! I’m multi-tasking!).

  9. SB Sarah says:

Confirmed with Scribd: the code is definitely for 90 days. Sorry for the confusion!

  10. Margarita says:

The Duke of Shadows by Meredith Duran is 1.99 on Amazon. I’ve been very intrigued by this book since Sherry Thomas mentioned it in the prologue to one of her books (Not quite a Husband, perhaps?)

  11. Azure says:

I didn’t intend to get the Scribd subscription trial because I remember reading a pretty bad review of the service on this website. Then I saw “audiobooks,” so I went and took a look. And now I’m a member. I’m salivating over the number of Avon Romance audios available–and practically brand new releases, too!

  12. HJ says:

Thank you for the Scribd coupon! I looked at it a while ago but was deterred by the fact that the only Kindle it works on is the Fire (which I don’t have). But since then I’ve acquired an (old) iPad which I can use it on, so I’m giving it a go! I love audiobooks so that’s a bonus. And I’ve put the date in my calendar, so thank you for that reminder.

  13. Sara says:

This is a great opportunity. Thanks you for the Scribd coupon – I finally took the plunge and signed up. Being a non-US resident I’ve been a bit hesitant, since apparently not everything that’ll show up when browsing the site as a guest is actually readable once you sign up. But so far I am pleasantly surprised and have found several books already that I will read, starting tonight.

  14. Hannah says:

For anyone interested in Scribd, in addition to the month-to-month option, you can buy an annual subscription that works out to $3.99 a month instead of $8.99.

  15. A. says:

Are there geographical limitations on the scribd coupon?
I really wanted to try it but the link says the code is invalid..

  16. SB Sarah says:

    A-

I don’t know – but I can ask! Let me find out, k?

  17. SB Sarah says:

    @A-

I asked, and the code should be good globally. I just tested this link and it worked – let me know if it works for you?

  18. A. says:

Thank you, SB Sarah! 🙂 The new link worked and my Scibd trial membership is up and running!

  19. SB Sarah says:

You’re welcome! I hope you enjoy it! I have a post going up Monday about different ways to get the most out of a Scribd subscription, so stay tuned.
