Paranormal Romance & Fantasy with Grim Reapers, Mysterious Islands, & More

  • The Language of Spells

The Language of Spells by Sarah Pointer

The Language of Spells by Sarah Pointer is 99c! If I had to label this book, I’d say it’s fantasy with threads of women’s fiction and romance thrown in for good measure. A heroine with magical abilities returns to a town that essentially shunned her for being a witch. Many readers thought the story was beautiful and balanced, while some thought the story was a bit outlandish even with the magic aspect. Anyone interested?

When you are ready, seek, and you shall find. It is your gift.

Gwen Harper left Pendleford thirteen years ago and hasn’t looked back. Until an inheritance throws her into the mystical world she thought she’d escaped. Confronted with her great-aunt’s legacy Gwen must finally face up to her past.

The magic she has long tried to suppress is back with a vengeance but gift or burden, for Gwen, it always spells trouble. She has to stay – she has nowhere else to go – but how can she find her place in the town that drove her out after branding her a witch…?

  • Elusive Hero

Elusive Hero by Joey W. Hill

Elusive Hero by Joey W. Hill is $2.99! This book is part of the Invitation to Eden series. If you’re not familiar with this, it’s comprised of twenty-seven books written all by separate authors. The only thing that thinks the books is the setting: a mystical island named Eden. The books range in length, but it looks like all are priced rather cheaply. This particular installment is an erotic paranormal romance with vampires and serves as part of Hill’s Vampire Queen series. It has a positive 4.2-star rating on GoodReads!

Vampires drink blood, they’re superior to humans, and they’re sexual Dominants. Every vampire knows those truths. A vampire’s human servant is property, plaything, pawn—and the only living being a vampire can trust. Though she may own him, body, heart and soul, a human servant keeps a vampire from feeling alone in her dangerous, political world. But Kaela has a secret. She’s a vampire with a burning need to submit, to belong to a Master, and definitely not a vampire Master, who will use the advantage for political or emotional domination. But what kind of human male will consent to becoming a vampire’s servant, a 300-year life of utter servitude, to be her Master behind closed doors? An invitation to Eden offers her the chance to discover her elusive hero…and indulge the bliss of surrender…

  • Dark Serpent

    Dark Serpent by Kylie Chan

Dark Serpent by Kylie Chan is 99c! This urban fantasy is the first book in the Celestial Battle series. Some readers expressed confusion since the author tends to write books in trilogies, and this is the third trilogy with the same characters as previous ones. So technically, this would be the seventh book if it were a full series. It’s definitely recommended that readers be familiar with the story in the previous books. John and Emma head to Wales to try and work out who — or what — Emma is. But rather than providing a clear path to their long hoped-for marriage the answer could tear them apart forever. Emma will be forced to betray either John, her beloved Xuan Wu, or her past and birthright. To make matters worse, John’s celestial home at Wudangshan is under attack from the Demon King. Can John find the Emma he knows and love, and save Wudangshan from demonic destruction?

  • Croak

    Croak by Gina Damico

Croak by Gina Damico is $1.99! This is a YA book with paranormal elements, as a young girl is sent to live with her uncle and inducted in the family business of reaping souls. The heroine is a sixteen year old, and there was a bit of a divide with reviewers between applauding her independence and finding her insufferable. It has a 3.9-star rating on GoodReads.

Fed up with her wild behavior, sixteen-year-old Lex’s parents ship her off to upstate New York to live with her Uncle Mort for the summer, hoping that a few months of dirty farm work will whip her back into shape. But Uncle Mort’s true occupation is much dirtier than shoveling manure. He’s a Grim Reaper. And he’s going to teach Lex the family business.
She quickly assimilates into the peculiar world of Croak, a town populated by reapers who deliver souls from this life to the next. But Lex can’t stop her desire for justice—or is it vengeance?—whenever she encounters a murder victim, craving to stop the attackers before they can strike again. Will she ditch Croak and go rogue with her reaper skills?
