Friday Videos Love Sweden

As RedHeadedGirl has said, there’s a pretty fierce, thousands-of-years-old rivalry between Norway and Sweden. Looking specifically at the musical exports of Norway in the past few years, we have Ylvis and What Does the Fox Say, which is almost a requirement at any dance party for children under 15 at this point.

And there’s Nico and Vinz, also of Norway, who I really like and who got me to thinking I owed all Norwegians a fruit basket or something for making my workout playlists so much more excellent.

But Sweden is not phoning in their entry into this musical exporting business. Oh, no. They got dancing animated penises and vulvas.

According to the articles on Jezebel and on Dangerous Minds, this video series is receiving a mixed reaction (heh) in Sweden, while we’re all charmed because those animated genitals are so freaking adorable.

According to Paul Gallagher on Dangerous Minds,

Apparently, this is one way that Swedes teach their children all about the facts of life—through the animated characters “Willie” (Snoppen) and his very close friend Snippan—which are apparently slang words for something or another. This gloriously surreal cartoon comes from the hit children’s TV show Bacillakuten, and that earworm of a song tells how Willie is “full of pace” and Snippan is “really cool, you better believe it, even on an old lady. It just sits there so elegantly.” Okay, the scansion may be a bit off, but I think we all get the idea.

What does the fox say NOW, Norway? Huh? Huh?!

Thank you for everyone who forwarded me this link. I hope your weekend is sitting there so elegantly.

Well… Snippan is actually the very official Swedish word for the female genitals. Snoppen and Snippan is mostly words for the kids. Older people have more expeltive words. 🙂
