  1. Betsy B says:

For lightness, Eloisa James it is. If I need escape with heavy emotional overtones, then it’s probably Sherry Thomas. Or feminist or geeky, then Courtney Milan.

  2. Leslie P. says:

Sorry if I inadvertently entered twice – Rafflecopter seemed to let me enter, but not actually leave a comment. My go-to books in time of stress are anything by Mary Stewart or Georgette Heyer.

  3. Jen G. says:

Sense and Sensibility is my ultimate comfort read!

  4. ppyajunebug says:

My happy book is ALWAYS “The Princess Bride”. ALWAYS.

  5. Ann says:

The one book I always read when I need a pick me up is Holiday in Death. I just love that Roarke has problems too 😉

  6. SaraS says:

My go-to has always been ‘The Heldan’ by Deborah Taldmadge-Bickmore. It is very out of circulation, but it was the original quasi-romance sci-fi I read when I was just starting my teens and moving into appreciation of the romance genre.

  7. Jen says:

Most anything by Jill Shalvis makes me happy. They aren’t usually rock-my-world books but I can always count on them for an enjoyable read that leaves me smiling.

  8. C Campbell says:

The most recent unread release of a favorite series takes me to a happy place where I can escape gray skies and blue funks.

  9. Malin says:

The Last Hellion by Loretta Chase. A Week to Be Wicked by Tessa Dare. Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie. The Man in the Brown Suit by Agatha Christie.

  10. Stacey says:

Which ONE book? Oh wow. Well, my comfort read, since I was 10, has been The Hero and the Crown, by Robin McKinley, but it alternates with The Blue Sword, also by McKinley, depending on whether I need just a strong girl fighting things or also some swoonworthy strong silent man-type.

  11. BillieB says:

‘The Princess Bride’ always and forever. I love the movie, too, but the book is the only one that I try to get around to re-reading every year, just because.

  12. Mochabean says:

A Civil Campaign because of the dinner party scene, the best hero grovel ever, and Miles is on the short list of “fictional characters i am sort of in love with although would probably not really want to be with IRL”

  13. Allison says:

The Fool’s Gold series by Susan Mallery and the Virgin River Series by Robyn Carr make me happy.

  14. Lena H says:

Probably Harry Potter because I nearly know it by heart and there’s just something so soothing about rereads. And it’s just fun and cute and perfect.

  15. Judy W. says:

My Happy Book(s) is the Ilona Andrew series (Magic) yeah! If in the mood for Historical its Devil in Winter which I have pretty much memorized.

  16. Rebe says:

Depends on my mood, but if I need a good laugh I’ll read a Shelly Laurenston book, usually Bear Meets Girl or Bite Me. If I need a comfort read, I’ll read The Talisman Ring by Georgette Heyer. I also reread Written in Red by Anne Bishop a lot. Not sure why.

  17. Valarie P says:

My go to book when I need a pick me up has always been The Secret by Julie Garwood. I don’t know what it is about that book, but I adore it.

  18. tee says:

I just got an embroidery hoop, but I also never learned to crochet… meanwhile, my happy book is rereading anything Pratchett, over and over, especially the City Watch and Witches and Tiffany Aching stories.

  19. Kristen says:

Ransom by Julie Garwood is my comfort read. Have to read it at least once per year.

  20. Samantha says:

Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson. Not a romance, but hands down the book I turn to when things are too terrible. For romance, it’s Bet Me all the way.

  21. Kimberly B. says:

Pretty much anything by Diana Wynne Jones, but particularly Howl’s Moving Castle. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  22. Jessica says:

I have so many happy books! Good Omens, Sorcery & Cecelia, the first Harry Potter…

  23. Celia says:

Pride and prejudice. I’m an Austen girl 🙂

  24. Ammy Belle says:

Say No to Joe by Lori Foster is my go to happy read – it’s funny and sexy and perfect for those days when I want to hide from the world under my blanket fort.

  25. Rebekah C says:

Gasp! I don’t have a happy read that I go back to over and over. I need to get myself one of those!!

  26. puckbuff13 says:

My go to book is Hannah Howell’s Highland Bride. No matter the situation it always makes me smile…even if just a little.

  27. Lisa Boike says:

I go back to the old school Jude Derveraux books.

  28. Kim says:

Any book by Judith McNaught, Julie James or Sherry Thomas.

  29. ReneeG says:

I love Bujold’s “Chalion” and “Paladin of Souls”, Andrew’s Magic series (in order), Singh’s “Caressed by Ice”, Brigg’s Mercy series (in order), Pierce’s Beka Cooper series, and Scalzi’s “Old Man’s War”, Kay’s “Under Heaven” or “Ysabel” – depending on what is going on and how long it lasts. I think these books keep me from reading slumps, since I love them so much.

I’ve been thinking about McKinley’s “Sunshine” a lot lately – think it may be time to buy it (first read it from the library).

  30. LauraL says:

Happy/comfort books are by Kristan Higgins, Julia Quinn, or Susan Mallery. I’ll also go back and read Southern Fried Blues by Jamie Farrell.

  31. Megan Smith says:

Hm. The Guernsy Literary and Potato Peel Pie society is always an upper, since it deals with a lot that’s grim and down and everything ends up happy, mainly. So it helps me put my sad/issues/whatnot in perspective and focus on the good. There’s also Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman and pretty much anything by Peter S. Beagle. I am just in awe of how that man crafts a sentence.

  32. Amelia N says:

I have so many it’s hard to choose… but I’d have to Mr. Darcy’s Obsession by Abigail Reynolds is one of my top go-tos!

  33. Hannah S says:

My go-to books are always Tamora Pierce’s Song of the Lioness and Immortals quartets. I find them to be extremely empowering and I always feel uplifted when I read them!

  34. Nicki says:

Anything new by a one of many favorite authors! But I have a collection of Laura Numeroff’s books IF YOU GIVE A…mouse/moose/cat/dog etc. Those books make me smile!

  35. Heather L says:

I don’t re-read much, but sometimes will go back and skim through parts of Kristen Ashley. If I only have a few minutes and not ready to start a new book, there are good snippets to pass the time.

  36. Catherine says:

What book makes me happiest when I need it? Well, the collected works of Terry Pratchett are definitely up there. Oddly enough, though, it’s a toss-up between “A Little Princess” (never read it when I was young, but I do like it as an adult) and a book that’s never been published–a historical romance (sort of) that my mother wrote over several years. I think the latter is a damn good book, and I hope she gets it published some day.

  37. eleine c. says:

I read Soulless. (Are we seeing a pattern here? At this point there is no doubt what my favorite book is.)

  38. Bea says:

Once in a Blue Moon by Penelope Williamson. It was the first romance I read and it still stands the test of time. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, which onle makes the HEA so much sweeter! Never fails to deliver. It makes me happy.

  39. Lizzie R says:

Lately it’s been Sarina Bowen’s Understatement of the Year or Kristen Callihan’s Hook Up. At the end of last year I hit a really good NA streak with those writers.

  40. LSUReader says:

I love a good historical romance. Something by authors Julia Quinn, Julie Anne Long, Courtney Milan, Kate Noble, Sarah Maclean, Grace Burrowes or Loretta Chase will work! Thanks for the giveaway.
