  1. Heather S says:

I recommend “Lord of Scoundrels” to my historical fans, “Bet Me” to contemporary humor fans, and “The Winter Sea” to those who like their historical-contemporary-atmospheric awesomesauce with a side of time slip.

  2. Aliyah says:

I tend to hand different people different books… That said I love telling people to read about Ethan and Merit (Chloe Neill books) and the older Anita Blake stuff (with the caveat that after Obsidian Butterfly nobody should go down that rabbit hole).

  3. Erin says:

I recommend After the Night, Bet Me and most Judith Mcnaught. Laughs, angst and great characters, you can’t go wrong.

  4. ppyajunebug says:

I tend to recommend either Julia Quinn or Courtney Milan, depending on what the person seems to like (fun and frothy or more angsty and realistic).

  5. JoliC says:

My recommendations include Loretta Chase’s Lord of Scoundrels, Jennifer Crusie’s Welcome to Temptation and Linda Howard’s Open Season. And anything by Pamela Clare, because she writes both historical and contemporary.

  6. Xandi says:

I recommend Loretta Chase or Eloisa James or Julia Quinn or Elizabeth Hoyt or Tessa Dare or Jennifer Cruise or Susan Elizabeth Phillips! Women who write women of wit!

  7. My single most-recommended romance is Mariana, by Susanna Kearsley. I’ve gone beyond recommending it and actually purchased it as a gift for several people. It’s such a beautifully written book, the characters are so well-drawn, the plot unfolds so intricately; it never fails to make me care. The first time I read it, I actually had to stop a few times because I was so worried that it wasn’t going to work out in a satisfying way, but when I finished it, it was so worth it.

  8. eugenia says:

I mostly do reverse recommendations and warn people what to avoid. But the last one I recommended was The Lost Duke of Wyndham by Julia Quinn because it had been a long, long time since there was good book noise at my house.

  9. Terri says:

Because of my job, I recommend a lot of YA romances. My favorite book to recommend right now is Rainbow Rowell’s “Fangirl.”

  10. Lori says:

I think the romance I recommend depends on the person. Most people in my household chuckle at me when they see me with The Scottish Witch by Cathy Maxwell in my hand (oh how I love the suggestive cover! let’s have sex under a tartan blanket!). But my teenage daughters can be tricked into reading young adult books with heavy romance elements for sure. My husband not so much, but then again he tried to get me to read The Courtship of Princess Leia so I think I just need to find the right sci-fi romance. 🙂

  11. Alessandra says:

I recommend Karen Marie Moning’s Feverdream. I effing love that series. HOWEVER, I am newly in love with Eloisa James and Lisa Kleypas and will MOST DEFINITELY be recommending those from now on.

  12. denise says:

I love historical romance by Sarah MacLean

  13. Erin says:

OUTLANDER! Yes, it is many other genres, but it is my FAVORITE romance. Le sigh!

  14. Catherine says:

What romance do I recommend most often? That’s a tough one! I recall recommending Laura Kinsale’s work to a friend of mine, and I’ve become a disciple of the Church of Milan … Oddly enough, though, I think the answer may be Molly Harper’s “Nice Girls” series. They helped me get back into romance after years as an apostate, and darn it, I really like vampires who are just trying to figure out how to handle modern life.

  15. Crystal says:

A romance that I recommend a lot. Pretty much anything by Courtney Milan and lately, Romancing the Duke by Tessa Dare. Also, Eve and Roarke, though the past few have left me a little cold.

  16. EC Spurlock says:

Depending on the person, I’ll recommend either Heyer’s The Talisman Ring or Quinn’s Bridgerton series.

And thank all you Smart Bitches for 10 years of recommendations!

  17. Faye says:

    Mr. impossible!

  18. claire alley says:

Homeschool mom by day, and smart bitchy reader of trashy books by night. I so need to win this.

  19. infinitieh says:

    Loretta Chase for historical romances

  20. Sherri says:

I recommend the romance that I most recently loved. But since I re-read Lord of Scoundrels on a regular basis, I guess it might just be the one. 🙂

  21. Monique says:

I’m a librarian! I ask if they have ever read romance. And if they like historical or contemporary. If they like historical I ease them in with Julia Quinn or Georgette Heyer ( depending on their interest in the hubba hubba side. If contemporary – I start them with Jennifer Crusie or Susan Elizabeth Phillips. And I will love looking at others suggestions!;-)

  22. TrishJ says:

I like humor with my romance, so I recommend Jill Shalvis of Shannon Stacey or Julie James. I could keep going, there are a of of great romance authors I like.

  23. Denise says:

I usually recommend Teresa Medeiros for historical books, and Jaycee Burton for contemporary.

  24. Celia says:

I usually recommend Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie. One of my all time favorites.

  25. Asya says:

I adore the Maiden Lane series by Elizabeth Hoyt (actually anything by her) and recommend Wicked Intentions most often.

  26. Terri says:

Anything by Elizabeth Hoyt, especially the Maiden Lane Series.

  27. L:inda May says:

Romance novels are my favorite, a story that you never want to put it down. A story that makes you feel that you are one of the characters in the story.

  28. Deborah D says:

    I recommend Catherine Anderson.

  29. Kathy says:

It depends on what they read, most don’t read romance, their loss.

  30. Lauren says:

I like Natural Born Charmer as an intro to the genre, sweet and hilarious.

  31. leftcoaster says:

Depending on the person I am recommending to, for historical I recommend Zen Cho, Courtney Milan, Theresa Romain, Rose Lerner, or Joanna Bourne and for contemp I recommend Nina Perez (read her books they’re full of awesome), Emma Barry, Penny Reid and some of the Ruthie Knox.

  32. Sheryl P says:

Always recommend Sylvia Day and Lisa Renee jones!

  33. Linda Kenyon says:

Quick, witty, Eloisa James is my favorite. Great characters and always a good read.

  34. Joy says:

I hate to recommend books but tend to give author Names…Loretta Chase, Bujold if a SF Fan, J.D.Robb if a mystery fan, etc.

  35. Patti (@lovesfabromance) says:

I always recommend Ilona Andrews and Julie James, but lately I’ve been recommending Penny Reid, a lot – I’m loving her books!

  36. Debby says:

I always recommend Outlander. I read it when it first came out and have been praising it in all of the years since.

  37. Liz D says:

How to pick just 1? But depending on the reader would most often recommend A kiss at midnight by Eloisa James, It’s in his kiss by Julia Quinn, Scent of Darkness by Christina Dodd

  38. Amanda Vinson says:

I have to recommend Archer’s Voice! It is an amazing story!!

  39. Diana says:

Lord of Scoundrels. Or anything Courtney Milan.

  40. Shana says:

What romance do you recommend most often?
First, I recommend this site every chance I get!

Also I highly recommend Tessa Dare and Sarah MacLean. Love the strong female heroines in their books!! Just today I sent a list of authors to a colleague. 🙂
