10th Anniversary Giveaway Celebration: Part 1

John DeSalvo in a hot pink toga grasping a woman with huge breasts - above it says Ten Years of Smart BitchesThis Saturday, January 31, 2015, Smart Bitches will be ten years old. Yay! We’ve been counting down each month looking back at some of the most popular pages in the site’s archives over the past year. Now it’s time to party!

So all this week, we’re celebrating with two giveaways each day – ten in all (see my elite math skills there? I double checked them, too) – until Saturday.

Over on the right, we have John DeSalvo and his hot pink gladiator outfit, because I have decreed that the 10th Anniversary for a Romance Blog must be decorated with hot pink gladiators. Or at least with a nipple. The traditional gift is now one DeSalvo nipple looking at you. Or me. Or both.

We have books, puzzles, crafty things, pretty things, sparkly things, drinky things – all the things! We’re giving away All the Things to celebrate.

Each giveaway will be open until 31 January 2015, and each prize pack is open to international residents where applicable by law. Must be over 18 to win.  Void where prohibited.

I will never forget the week I spent delirious in bed with flu maybe six years ago when I discovered this lovely website. I must have read the whole darn thing, and then gone looking for tons of books.
I hadn’t read romance in a decade. Thanks for reminding me how awesome it is!
    Happy Anniversary, Bitches.

  10. Kate I. says:

Happy anniversary, SBTB! Please continue the most excellent cover snark and the rockin’ recs. I’ve discovered a number of authors via SBTB, but one that stands out is Tessa Dare.

  11. Happy Anniversary! So exciting.

I’ve discovered lots of authors here, but two of the posts that always make me smile are:
    1. the one about London’s Last True Scoundrel and his wardrobe challenge
    2. The Raider – Barbie® and Ken® Doll Giftset

    Hilarious!

  12. Lori says:

I discovered Susanna Kearsley through Smart Bitches. The Winter Sea was just so amazing and exactly what I needed at the time that I read it. Perfection! And so much of the great romance that I’ve read has been because of this site. Heck, just the best BOOKS in general that I’ve read the last few years have been because of this site. I’m always so happy to see the slight deviations from strictly a “romance book squeeing” site to squeeing about anything tangentially related to books. 🙂 I adore this site!

  13. Emily says:

I discovered so many authors here! Nalini Singh, Lorraine Heath, Elosia James, too many to name. I found your site after it was mentioned in a Washington Post article on romance novels!

  14. tee says:

Yaay! Happy anniversary. I discover writers here weekly – my fave discovery was Charlotte Stein.

  15. Malin says:

Happy anniversary! This blog is one of the ones that reawakened my love of romance novels and I haven’t looked back since. I check your site almost daily and have lost count of the money I’ve spent thanks to your “Books on Sale” posts and newsletters. So much awesomeness!

  16. Kim says:

Happy Anniversary! I’ve introduced a few friends to SBTB over the past few years.

  17. ReneeG says:

Happy Anniversary – and thank you for a most wonderful site of snark and sass!

I have found so many books thru your site – you brought me back to Romancelandia afer so many years away! I love Courtney Milan’s books (who I discovered thru your site) and Tessa Dare, and I’m reading an e-book from the library by Eloisa James (after seriously making sure I would have time to do so, after hearing the library podcast). So, you have rocked my world on its axis!

  18. LaurieF says:

Discovered A Bollywood Affair by Sonali Dev but I’ve found many books because of Smart Bitches. Happy 10th Anniversay

  19. Marlene Pressner says:

congratulations on 10 years! thank you for introducing me to a community of smart women who (are not embarrassed to) read “trashy” novels. your comments and reviews make me think, snort in laughter and recognition, or both. looking forward to more years of enjoyment.

  20. KarenW says:

Happy Anniversary! Hmm one of my favourite books I’ve discovered here has been Bring Him Home by Karina Bliss

  21. Ellie says:

  22. April says:

I quit reading romance novels in maybe 1990 and only started back up when I discovered your site a few years ago. You told me about Courtney Milan, Tessa Dare, Sarah MacLean, Lisa Kleypas, Elizabeth Hoyt, and Loretta Chase. Thank you for getting me back into a genre that I love. My favorite feature is HABO.

  23. Elizabeth says:

I discovered Kerry Greenwood’s fantastic Phryne Fisher series through SBTB, and I adore them beyond all reason.

  24. Katherine C. says:

Happy birthday Smart Bitches! Thanks for brightening the interwebs with the glow of your awesomesauce (yes, I see what I did there, and I’ve decided it’s appropriate, so I’m leaving it alone).

  25. JessiG says:

I can’t remember any new-to-me authors that I found on SBTB but I love the old favorites I come across at least on a monthly basis.

  26. Kael says:

Congrats on 10 years! I don’t think I’d love romance as much as I do without you, and it’s fantastic that you’re still going strong.

  27. Christina says:

I can’t even list how many authors I’ve discovered here… Loretta Chase, Courtney Milan, Stephanie Laurens, Sarah Morgan, and many, many more!!

  28. lisa says:

Whatever CarrieS recommends, I’m all over it.

  29. MarieC says:

Congrats and pass the champagne! Here’s to many more years of SBTB!!!

SBTB pointed me to some really awesome authors, including but not exclusive to Loretta Chase, Sarah Morgan, Jim Hines.

  30. Samantha says:

Happy anniversary! I discovered Courtney Milan (or at least got more interested in her) through SBTB.

  31. DonnaMarie says:

The list is legendary: Kristen Callihan, Molly O’Keefe, Miranda Neville, Tessa Dare, Juliana Grey, Vicki Pettersson, Jenn Bennett, Mary Robinette Kowal, Anna Lee Huber all because of recs from the Bitchery. Oh, and of course, Kieran Kramer, for whom I do not thank you, except for the chance to skewer, er, review “When Harry Met Molly, which was great fun.

  32. Michele H. says:

Happy Anniversary! Between the site and the podcast, there are too many authors to count that I have been introduced to. However, Sarah Mayberry, Graeme Simsion, and Sarah MacLean come to mind as ones that I followed a recommendation and was not disappointed!

  33. Jen says:

I have found many books from here. I can’t remember all the titles, but many.

  34. TheoLibrarian says:

Smart Bitches really helped me grow into my own as a romance reader. I had only read a few authors before the Bitchery opened my horizons. Thanks, y’all!

  35. Shawny J says:

Happy Anniversary! Who have I not discovered here? La Nora, Courtney Milan, Anne Tenino, Marie Sexton, Heidi Cullinan, Darlene Marshall. Do I need to continue? Do I get extra points for that?

  36. BriannaC says:

Happy Anniversary! Who needs a piece of tin when you can get an entire nipple? I remember being 14 years old exploring my mother’s closet and finding a copy of “Whitney, My Love” pushed to the back. When I stumbled upon SBTB, I felt at home. No judgement, just unfiltered love for all things romance.

  37. twirlygirl says:

Happy Anniversary. I came here for the reviews of the hilariously bad novels (pregnesia etc.) but it has also lead me to some awesome books like Pale Moon Rider selected for my book club based on SBTB reviews!

  38. ducky says:

I discovered Edith Layton’s The Duke’s Wager here.

  39. Megan says:

Congratulations on making it 10 years!!! I just started reading and listening to the podcast a few months ago. I’m very glad that my library’s overdrive has had a lot of what yall recommend, otherwise my husband wouldn’t be too happy about the buckets of money I would spend.

  40. Nancy C says:

I discovered “North and South” by Elizabeth Gaskell and Laura London’s “The Windflower”. Both are among my all time favorite stack of books. Thank you for the inspiration!
