Today at Amazon, select board games are 50% off. I saw Spot It! on the list, which was one of the games recommended by Elyse in our recent gift guide of games.
Spot It! isn’t expensive to begin with, but at 50% off, it’s $7.49, which is terrific.
Adventure Time: Card Wars – Finn vs. Jake and Adventure Time: Card Wars – Princess Bubblegum vs. Lumpy Space Princess are also 50% off.
This is a card game based on the same game played on the show Adventure Time, and it’s for two players, ages 10 and up. I know a few kids who are huge fans of this show, and the fact that there are tie-in card games makes them very happy.
I’m fascinated by this game that’s 50% off and am thinking I might order it for my family: Takenoko, a game in which you are a bamboo farmer and must grow bamboo to feed a panda while also having enough to give to the emperor (I think I read that right- I’m on so much cold medicine I might have dreamed up this whole game).
It’s normally $50, which is a lot for a game I’ve never played, but at 50% off, I’m curious, especially as it has so many positive reviews. Have you played this one?

Soul Screamers Volume One
Soul Screamers Volume One by Rachel Vincent is $3.99 at Amazon, and $4.20 at some vendors. This set includes the prequel novella in the Soul Screamers series, plus books 1 and 2, My Soul to Take and My Soul to Save.
This series is teen fiction about a young girl who learns she’s a banshee, and in moments much like panic attacks, she will scream to signal the imminent death of someone close. This boxed set has a 4+ star average on GoodReads, and might make a good gift for the paranormal-loving teen reader you know.
My Soul to Lose
—The prequel: never before in print!—Kaylee is just your average girl shopping at the mall with friends—until a terrified scream bursts from her that cannot be stopped. Taken to a hospital ward, will she be able to save her mind—and her life?
My Soul to Take
She’s always felt different, but now Kaylee discovers why. The screams that cannot be denied mean that someone near her will die—and she can never save them. Because saving one life means taking another….
My Soul to Save

The Best Kind of Trouble
The Best Kind of Trouble by Lauren Dane is still $1.99, and has been one of the most popular deals this month so far. This is book 1 of the Hurley series, and if you’re in the mood for hot contemporary romance with a second-chance love story between a rock star and a librarian, this might warm you up very quickly.
She has complete control…and he’s determined to take it away
A librarian in the small town of Hood River, Natalie Clayton’s world is very nearly perfect. After a turbulent childhood and her once-wild ways, life is now under control. But trouble has a way of turning up unexpectedly—especially in the tall, charismatically sexy form of Paddy Hurley….
And Paddy is the kind of trouble that Natalie has a taste for.
Even after years of the rock-and-roll lifestyle, Paddy never forgot the two wickedly hot weeks he once shared with Natalie. Now he wants more…even if it means tempting Natalie and her iron-grip control. But there’s a fine line between well-behaved and misbehaved—and the only compromise is between the sheets!

Takenoko is a great game and I highly recommend it! Enjoyable for a party of adults and easy enough a younger child can play with a bit of guidance.
My brother and sister-in-law introduced us to Takenoko over Thanksgiving, and we loved it. Not only was it fun for all of us, it’s also a beautiful game. The board pieces, the cards, the colorful bamboo and little figures…you just want to stare at it.
I’ve already bought it for Christmas, and I recommend it.
BTW, TableTop (hosted by Wil Wheaton) reviewed and played TAKENOKO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv4n-e-hb_o It’s a great way to see how the game plays!
Takenoko is super fun. If I had not asked for it for Christmas, I would have bought it!
Thank you!! The reviews are so unilaterally positive -and I’m sort of transfixed by Will Wheaton walking about proper irrigation now. Thanks, Jim!
Sadly, $50 for a board game counts as pretty cheap over here because Stupid prices in Australia: not just books
This one looks fun
