Books on Sale: Nora Roberts, Anthony Bourdain, and Crocheting

  • Blood Magick

    Blood Magick by Nora Roberts

Blood Magick by Nora Roberts is $3.99 at Amazon – and so far, there’s no price matching yet. Fingers crossed! This is book 3 of the Cousins O’Dwyer trilogy, which is a ParaNora set in Ireland with witchcraft, curses, legends, and romance (obviously). Blood Magick has a 4+ star average, and most readers who have enjoyed the first two seemed to have liked the conclusion to the trilogy. The first book, Dark Magick, has been on sale previously, so you may already own it.

County Mayo is rich in the traditions of Ireland, legends that Branna O’Dwyer fully embraces in her life and in her work as the proprietor of The Dark Witch shop, which carries soaps, lotions, and candles for tourists, made with Branna’s special touch.

Branna’s strength and selflessness hold together a close circle of friends and family—along with their horses and hawks and her beloved hound. But there’s a single missing link in the chain of her life: love…

She had it once—for a moment—with Finbar Burke, but a shared future is forbidden by history and blood. Which is why Fin has spent his life traveling the world to fill the abyss left in him by Branna, focusing on work rather than passion.

Branna and Fin’s relationship offers them both comfort and torment. And though they succumb to the heat between them, there can be no promises for tomorrow. A storm of shadows threatens everything that their circle holds dear. It will be Fin’s power, loyalty, and heart that will make all the difference in an age-old battle between the bonds that hold their friends together and the evil that has haunted their families for centuries.

  • Kitchen Confidential

    Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain

Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain is $2.99 at Amazon and Kobo (come on over, price matching fairies!).

This is Bourdain’s tell-all memoir, containing stories about what really happens in the kitchens of restaurants, and how he became a chef. If you’re thinking that your kitchen and the tensions therein might be a great reality show this week, this book might be a good companion – or gift!

    Overview

Last summer, The New Yorker published Chef Bourdain’s shocking, “Don’t Eat Before Reading This“. Bourdain spared no one’s appetite when he told all about what happens behind the kitchen door. Bourdain uses the same “take-no-prisoners” attitude in his deliciously funny and shockingly delectable book, sure to delight gourmands and philistines alike. From Bourdain’s first oyster in the Gironde, to his lowly position as dishwasher in a honky–tonk fish restaurant in Provincetown (where he witnesses for the first time the real delights of being a chef); from the kitchen of the Rainbow Room atop Rockefeller Center, to drug dealers in the East Village, from Tokyo to Paris and back to New York again, Bourdain’s tales of the kitchen are as passionate as they are unpredictable. Kitchen Confidential will make your mouth water while your belly aches with laughter. You’ll beg the chef for more, please.

The Complete Photo Guide to Crochet, 2nd Edition by Margaret Hubert

The Complete Photo Guide to Crochet, 2nd Edition by Margaret Huber is $2.99 today only as a Kindle Daily Deal. I think the price matching fairies are busy learning crochet, so I don’t expect this will be price matched, but we could get lucky.

This book teaches crochet with pictures and step-by-step instructions, and it has a 4+ star average on GR. I really liked this review from Grace who wrote, “As a beginner of crochet, this book is absolutely amazing. It has more stitch variety than I’ve encountered before. There are directions for every stitch type that are easy to follow. There is even the occasional pattern for a project using a stitch pattern previously described.” If all the crafty patterns we’ve been posting lately have made you want to learn, this might be a great option for you.

This is a comprehensive reference book on all aspects of crochet. This book provides a reference for all methods, including Tunisian, filet, intermeshing, broomstick lace, bruges lace, and freeform crochet.
