Books on Sale: Contemporary Romances with Quite a Bit of Catnip

Book Anything But Sweet

Anything but Sweet by Candis Terry is $1.99! This contemporary romance features a cowboy hero and a city slicker heroine, plus a plot that revolves around a makeover reality TV show taking place in a small town. A few readers found the stubborn cowboy a little too stubborn for their liking, though many lovers of small town romances enjoyed the blend of setting and sweet romance. It's the first in the Sweet, Texas series and it has a 3.9-star rating on GR.

HE’S STUBBORN AND THOROUGHLY MALE . . .

If Charlotte Brooks thinks she and her TV makeover show can turn Reno Wilder’s hometown upside down, he’ll be happy to prove her wrong. The x-Marine has seen too much turmoil and he likes Sweet, Texas, just the way it is. Traditional. Familiar. A little dull. Everything Charli isn’t. But instead of backing off from his scowls like everyone else, Charli digs in her skyscraper heels.

SHE’S TENACIOUS AND WICKEDLY TEMPTING . . .

Reno Wilder is a one-man unwelcoming committee, but Charli isn’t budging. It’s clear the gorgeous cowboy needs an overhaul just as much as Sweet. Someone needs to break him out of that gruff shell and show him how fun and rewarding a little change can be.

THEY’RE ABOUT TO FIND THAT LOVE IS ANYTHING BUT PREDICTABLE.

Book Love the One You're With

Love the One You're With by Lauren Layne is 99c! The second book in the Sex, Love & Stiletto contemporary romance series, Love the One You're With is set in the world of magazines. Both our hero and heroine work as columnists; one at a men's mag and the other at a women's mag. Naturally, they hate what the other does. It has an impressive 4.1-star rating on GR with many reviewers saying that Lauren Layne is now on their auto-buy list.

As a leading columnist for Stiletto, Grace Brighton has built a career warning women about rotten, cheating liars. She just never suspected her fiancé would be one of them. After Grace takes a heart-mending hiatus, her first assignment is to go on a couple of dates with a counterpart from the men's magazine Oxford and report her impressions. Grace 1.0 may have been instantly smitten with the gorgeous correspondent, but Grace 2.0 has sworn off relationships for six months, and she's not falling for his outstanding bod and trophy-winning kisses… or is she?

Jake Malone wants to get back to the fly-by-night, who-knows-what's-next guy he used to be, and he knows exactly how to do it. Oxford is adding a travel section, and Jake—with no wife and no kids and a willingness to live anywhere, eat anything, do everything—is perfect for the job… except that his playboy reputation makes his new editor nervous. To get the gig, he must agree to a fluffy joint article with Stiletto.

But after just one date with snooty, sumptuous, sensational Grace Brighton, Jake starts taking this assignment a whole lot more seriously…

Book Full Exposure

Full Exposure by Sara Jane Stone is 99c! This contemporary romance contains catnip galore. Hero is heroine's boss. She's a live-in nanny for this nephew, by the way. The hero is also the best friend to the heroine's brother. The heroine also served in the military, which I think is pretty awesome. Readers had no trouble connecting with the characters, though some wished there was a bit more emotional depth. With a 3.8-star rating, it's the first book in the Independence Falls series. Anyone interested?

No touching allowed . . .

After serving her country, Georgia Trulane craves adventure–and sex. She's set her sights on her brother's best friend–now her boss, since she took a temporary job as his nephew's live-in nanny. Only problem? Eric refuses to touch her. That doesn't stop Georgia from seducing him. But an earth-shattering encounter leaves her fully exposed, body and soul.

Eric has a long list of reasons to steer clear of the woman he has wanted for as long as he can remember. For one, he refuses to be her next thrill ride. When he claims her, it will be for good. But the attraction is undeniable, and the more they fight it, the stronger it pulls. But will it be enough to conquer their obstacles?

Book Tangling with the CEO

Tangling with the CEO by Annie Seaton is 99c! A second chance, contemporary romance, our hero and heroine were former college roommates. Now the hero is a billionaire looking to buyout the heroine's business. What a hunky jerk! Many readers warn that they couldn't put this book down, though there were a couple who just couldn't get into the story at all. It seems like this is one of those books that doesn't have a middle ground when it comes to liking it. It's also the first book in the Half Moon Bay series. Has anyone read this?

Mixing business with pleasure never felt so right.

Blake Buchanan and Anastasia Delaney were roommates in college and could never see eye to eye about anything. The only time their walls came down was during one night of passion before Ana left without a word, never expecting to cross paths with Blake again.

Years later, Blake has made his millions. He comes back to Ana’s small California town to manage a corporate takeover that will close down the home restoration business she’s poured her heart and soul into. The fiery Ana is determined to convince money-minded Blake of her business’s worth, but when a family emergency throws them together, their walls come tumbling down once again…

Problem is, Blake’s business-first position hasn’t changed. And Ana can’t fall for the man who could become her boss—it’s not only her job at stake, but her heart.

I just bought three of these (every one except the first – I’m just not in a cowboy mood today). It’s been a long, fairly crappy week and contemporaries are my catnip. Thank you for sharing. 🙂

  2. Amanda says:

@Maybeimamazed02: Always happy to help! ; ) Hope your week gets better!

I’m generally not a huge fan of contemporaries – they tend to lack the escapism factor that I love so much in historicals – but I read “Matched To Her Rival” by Kat Cantrell (a Harlequin Desire category from last month) and liked it so much that I checked out four more of her Desire titles from the library. The hero, Dax, has major issues with trust and women – but even when he’s acting like a jerk, he KNOWS he’s acting like a jerk and feels bad about it. Elise is a matchmaker who wrote her own program to match people – and it’s never failed. She has issues about her weight and food because she was chubby as a kid and her supermodel mom harangued her about it. Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and recommend it. 🙂

@Maybeimamazed02, I’m with you. Loong crappy week, loooooong crappier day = Kindle spending spree. Thanks Amanda. I think…

  5. SB Sarah says:

    @Heather

Dude. You set off, like, half of my catnip alarms. Thanks!

  6. Heather S says:

Yep, Elise is smart and a bit nerdy – she write computer code. Dax thinks smart is sexy. Smart hero. ^_^

So the crappy week thing? Hello. Here too.

Then my inbox says, “HELLO! Book alert”. And yes, I bought two last night – read Full Exposure – then straight on to Love the One You’re With this morning. Sooo no work so far today. Though I got in a great workout on my bike (because I can read on my bike…) and though I dropped my iPad in the shower, it didn’t poop out on me (because yes, I read in the shower). Actually when I get caught in a book I read everywhere. I can walk dogs, do laundry, cook, exercise, and yes, shower! all without putting down my iPad.

What I can’t do is work on my computer. But I’m going to figure that out one day.

So my two cents: Full Exposure is not a full ‘meh’ – but just ranks an ‘okay’. I’m one of those annoying people who notices when a vase moves from one scene to the next in a movie. And this book set off some of that. Why has the dude spread her out on the edge of a hot tub, security lights blazing, and only cares about the view from the beach when his wankie is about to come out to play? And the ‘wild’ sex seemed pretty tame. Add on some clunky dialogue (not all – but some – that wouldn’t pass the ‘read it out loud without majorly cracking up’ rule) annnd I gotta say, no more of this author for me.

Lauren Layne, on the other hand, has me hook, line, and sinker. Going to be getting more of her books soon. Loved the main characters – and really enjoyed seeing them grow through the story line. Smart, funny people who are pitted against each other (albeit in a somewhat light-hearted way), and try to trip each other up, and handle the whole thing with humor and maturity. ‘Nuff said. Don’t want to spoil it. But if you haven’t read Love the One You’re With? I recommend. Pure fun.

So now it’s 3:30 my time, and I still haven’t gotten any work done… hmm… think some dawgs need walkin’…
