Giveaway: Win a digital or print ARC of Jill Shalvis’ It’s In His Kiss

It's In His Kiss - Jill Shalvis - Lucky Harbor seriesWould you like an ARC?

That's an advanced reader copy, aka, this book's not out yet, but we have review copies, aka, wait, this paper feels kinda weird.

Jill Shalvis and her publisher have offered up 10 digital review copies via NetGalley, and 10 print review copies via The Post Office, should you wish to win.

Do you wish to win? Sure, why not, right?

Here's some info about the book: It's a romance!

(I should have told you to sit down first. I'm sorry.)

(Are you ok?)

(Ok, good.)

Here's the back cover copy, which explains things while using the word “boatbuilder:”

Becca Thorpe has uprooted her life and escaped to the beach. Now's her chance to get away from city living, throw caution to the ocean winds, and live in the moment. Especially if the moment includes the deliciously sexy surfer she meets shortly after arriving in Lucky Harbor. Something about the dark intensity of Sam's eyes and the thrill she gets at his touch convinces her to stay awhile.

Boatbuilder and investment genius Sam Brody is a self-made man who knows how dangerous it can be to mix business and pleasure. But he can't resist offering Becca a job just to hear her laugh and have her near. Yet when her brother comes to town asking for help, will he tempt her back to her glamorous life in the city? Or do Sam and little Lucky Harbor have a chance to win Becca's heart?

It's In His Kiss is book 10 in the Lucky Harbor series, which is comprised of a set of 4 trilogies, this being the start of the 4th. Shalvis told me, “This book can absolutely be read as a stand-alone. I did that on purpose for people who've never read Lucky Harbor and wanted a new starting point.”

RITA® Reader Challenge reivewer Christine T said of Lucky Harbor in her review of It Had To Be You:

I think most of Shalvis’ readers would agree that her books are great comfort reads in large part because of the small-town settings. The Lucky Harbor books work particularly well for me because I’m a Northern California girl presently stuck in the urban vortex that is Los Angeles, and I like to imagine that someday we’re going to break free of this place, battle our way north up the 405 and land somewhere green, clean and friendly like Lucky Harbor.

In most regards, Lucky Harbor is as idyllic as ever in It Had to be You—the ocean and mountains are there to provide recreation and catharsis, the town is decorated with twinkly lights, and whenever anybody needs an ice cream or chocolate chip pancakes, they’re right around the corner. Awesome! (Obviously, we can find all of those things here in the greater Los Angeles area, but we generally have to drive to get to them and then pay to park. Nobody seems to have to pay to park in Lucky Harbor.)

I nodded through both of those paragraphs when I read them, because, aside from the California part (I'm in the NY Metro area), it's true. Lucky Harbor is idyllic and no one pays for parking. If you like small town contemporary romance, you'd like this series.

The other thing I personally like, though I am not a SERIES IN ORDER OF COURSE reader like, say, Freebird, my 8 year old son, is that you can enter the series at pretty much any point. Other characters will appear in the background, but not everything about their stories gets spoiled in later books. When I pick up any book set in Lucky Harbor, it's not difficult to picture everything again, and enjoy the familiarity of it. I really like to revisit the world/community.The Lucky Harbor books I've read, I've read out of order (I know, I know. Some of you are probably shaking your heads at me, reading series out of order like that. I know Freebird would be, if he were online… and reading about romance novels.)

I haven't read this one yet, but the early reviews on GoodReads are very positive. It has a 4+ star average so far, and the gif quotient is visible but not alarmingly so.

Would you like to learn more about this book? We have options! You can find out more at Jill Shalvis' website, or at BN, or Kobo, or iBooks, or you can ring up your library and ask them to reserve or order a copy if they don't already have it ordered. 1. Quinn Fforde says:

I love this series! I also enjoyed Cedar Cove and several others. I love that characters interact across books.

  2. LauraL says:

My favorite so far in the Lucky Harbor series is Always on My Mind, Leah and Jack’s story.

  3. ClaudiaGC says:

I have read and enjoyed all the Lucky Harbor books and I also Shannon Stacey’s Kowalski books.

  4. Kristin says:

I’ve read all of the Lucky Harbor series.  Sawyer is still my favorite =)

  5. I’ve read most of them, I think. I lost track, but each time I pick one up and it’s one I haven’t read yet, it’s a new adventure. I love Jill Shalvis’ books because they’re like cookies: you can’t eat just one and you can’t stop until they’re all gone.

  6. Turophile says:

I read the first two in the series.  You can’t expect me to remember the names, can you?
I really have enjoyed all of Fiona Lowe’s Wedding books, set in Wisconsin.  Need more small town books set in the upper midwest like those are.

  7. merry Z. says:

I love all the Lucky Harbor books.  The Sweetest Thing is a favorite.

  8. GHN says:

I haven’t read any of Jill’s books. Yet, at least.

  9. Amy S. says:

I’ve read all the books in this series so far with my favorite being Ford and Tara’s book (The Sweetest Thing).

And right now my current read is Instant Attraction by Jill Shalvis as well.

  10. I’ve read all of the Lucky Harbor books and I agree that they’re comfort reads. It’s like visiting with old friends. My favorite was Chloe and Sawyer (book#3) – I just at remembering titles

  11. Amanda Lee says:

I haven’t read any of the Lucky Harbor books, but I aim to fix that soon.  I haven’t read nearly enough contemporary romances, but I have read a couple of Jennifer Crusie’s that I know were set in small towns, like Welcome to Temptation.

  12. Mara says:

I’ve read all the books in this series. Although it’s been a while so I’m not sure what my favorite was.

  13. JL says:

Head Over Heels (#3) is also my favourite. Great sexual tension between the two characters, and I really loved the development of the sibling relationships of the first three books. The Lucky Harbour books can be read out of order, but I’d recommended sticking to the order of the sub-trilogies, if that makes sense. Jill Shalvis develops some great relationships between the three heroines over the course of each trilogy, and while not essential to enjoying and following the books, it adds an extra-special element to them.

  14. Jamie says:

I’m always surprised how much I like the Lucky Harbor series—I’m not much for cutesy small towns, much more of the snarky badass heroine and alpha male type (anyone else re-reading the first Outlander for the new Starz series? forgot how much I like Jamie and Claire in the beginning!)—but I do love a lazy Sunday afternoon with a Lucky Harbor book.

  15. Janice says:

I loved “Head over Heels”, the third Lucky Harbor book and have the rest on my to-read list. I’d love to get my hands on this one.

  16. Amy says:

The first and third books of the Lucky Harbor series are my favorites. Small town romances are some of my favorites.

  17. Jemi Fraser says:

LOVE Jill Shalvis’ books – she’s my fave cont romance author. My favourite book tends to be the last one I read – so Animal Magnetism #1. Also love Susan Mallory’s Fool’s Gold series 🙂

  18. Alexandra says:

I haven’t read any Lucky Harbor or Jill Shalvis book before, but It’s In His Kiss looks like a good read (and I love the title). I’ve never been a huge fan of contemporary romances, but I’m trying to branch out because I know there are so many great ones out there. I’m going to add this series to GR and keep an eye out for Shalvis books the next thim I hit the library.

  19. I actually just finished Simply Irresistible (Lucky Harbor, #1)  a few days ago and I thought it was great! Can’t wait to read the rest of the series!!

  20. Katie Lynn says:

I don’t believe I have read any of these books, but I may have purchased one that has been lingering somewhere on my kindle, unread. It’s the place where books go to die if I don’t read them immediately.

  21. Jennifer says:

I have read all of the Lucky Habour series and the first 3 are my favourites. I also like most of Brenda Novak’s Whiskey Creek series.

  22. Julie says:

I love this series!  I have all of the books in the series

  23. Tina says:

I’m not a fan of small town, so it took a while seeing the rave reviews before trying Lucky Harbor. I have read the first two, I have the third to read in the near future.

  24. Justine says:

I haven’t read any of the books in this series. I’ve liked Molly O’Keefe’s small town comtemporaries.

  25. Pam Craig says:

I’ve read the first 2 and am currently working on the 3rd, enjoyed them all. I also love the Destiny series by Toni Blake.

  26. LaineyT says:

I haven’t read any of the books in this series but SBTB has so many raves about this author that I’ve being meaning to give one a try.

  27. Joseri says:

I think my favourite in this series is Chloe and Sawyer’s book, there’s just something about a hot sheriff that does it for me.

  28. Jennifer says:

I have read all of the books in the series and I think my favorite was Always on My Mind.  The firefighter, the chef and the dog.  Fun!

  29. HollyS says:

I’ve read a few of the Lucky Harbor series….I definitely plan to read more. My favorite is “It had to Be You”. I love Ali, and there were actual parts of this book that made me tear up (not my usual at all).

  30. Kelly S. says:

I have read all of the books in the series, including the novellas, and in order.  I am like Freebird.  How can you read a series out of order? It causes massive twitching and frustration usually with me.

Kristen Higgins writes nice small town contemporaries.  I would say Stacey Shannon’s Kowalski series fits the bill too.

  31. Tory says:

I entered the series late, and have been reading them as they come out since about book 5, and then reading the previous books as they come on sale. Great series!

  32. Naomi says:

I’ve read the entire series, in order (starting when several of them were already published); I’ve enjoyed them all to varying extents.

I’m not sure they totally count as “small-town” series, despite the actual setting, but Victoria Dahl’s Jackson series was excellent.

  33. Ducky says:

I don’t think I ever read this author. So yes please.

  34. Nikki H says:

I’ve read all the books in the series, and her Animal Magnetism series. Jill Shalvis is one of my auto-buy authors. I love small town series, and read the ones by Susan Mallery, Robyn Carr, Emily March, Shannon Stacey, Kristen Ashley, Toni Blake, Molly O’Keefe and Linda Lael Miller.

  35. Alaina says:

i’ve read two of them… but it’s been a while so i don’t remember which ones lol. but i love jill shalvis. i would love to win a copy of this one! 😀

  36. I’ve read the entire series.  My favorite is the 2nd book in the series, The Sweetest Thing, which is Tara and Ford’s story.  I love second chance romances.

  37. Kelly C says:

I’ve read all of the books in this series. I don’t really have a favorite, although I liked the first “trilogy” in the series the least for some reason. Other small town series…well, obviously Ms. Shalvis has the Animal Magnetism series, which I love (I’m a sucker for a romance with animals involved). Technically I think the Colorado Mountain series by Kristen Ashley qualifies (it’s in small town Carnal, CO, though perhaps not the squishy happy feeling one is usually expecting in small town life).

  38. Lea says:

I haven’t read any of them yet but bought all of them up to this one in a lot on eBay. I really love small town contemporaries – Life in Icicle Falls by Sheila Roberts, Ocean Breeze by Sherryl Woods, Chesapeake Shores by Sherryl Woods, Cedar Cove by Debbie Macomber, to name a few.

  39. Samantha says:

I read the first book in this series and I really enjoyed it. As for other small town series, I like Robyn Carr’s Virgin River and I just started Raeanne Thayne’s Hope series.

  40. Helen R-S says:

I haven’t read any of the Lucky Harbour books, but I did enjoy her Wilder trilogy. Off the top of my head I can’t think what other small-town contemporaries I’ve read. I’ll probably wake up at 3am going, “But of _course_ [insert title here] is a small-town contemporary!”
