Lessons in French AudiobookTo celebrate the audiobook release of Lessons in French, Laura Kinsale has offered up a set of really terrific prizes – ready to have some fun this week?

We have a Grand Prize!

Drenched in Blue Beats by DreOne pair of Drenched in Blue Beats by Dre headphones, and five download codes for any five Kinsale Audiobooks from Audible!

And we have runners up prizes, too:

Four sets of five download codes, also valid for any five Kinsale Audiobooks from Audible!

We are not messing around when it comes to treating your ears very kindly.

Laura Kinsale has been producing her own audiobooks for some time now, and we held a giveaway this time last year to celebrate release of the first few.

Now, Lessons in French is available as an audiobook narrated by Nicholas Boulton, so more fun ahoy! Kinsale describes his as a romantic comedy, and here's the cover copy:

Trevelyan d'Augustin and Lady Callista Talliafaire were secret sweethearts, until the day her father dismissed him with a whip across the face. Ten years and three jiltings later, shy Callie is resigned to a quiet village life as the late earl's spinster daughter.

But now Trev has returned from his estates in France, upending everything, dragging her into adventures, stealing Hubert the prize-winning bull, and flinging Callie's heart into mayhem again.

Laura and Nick fans who enjoy a practical, witty heroine will love shy Lady Callista with her cattle and daydreams, and believe dashing Trev will be a lucky man if he can win her back…or perhaps just kidnap her instead!

And…well, if you haven't heard Nicholas Boulton, the narrator, here's a sample:

Those who have listened to Boulton narrate the other Kinsale novels have raved about them. So why give away sets of five codes? Because there are nine books to choose from!

Fine print, disclaimers, and other assorted assemblages of letters: void where prohibited! Grand prize open to US residents only due to shipping limitations on the headphones. The codes are open to international residents where permitted by applicable law. Must be over 18 and a good listener to win. Each code is valid for one-time-only use, and valid only on Kinsale's audiobooks at Audible.com.  Winners will be provided the code and instructions for use via email. Winners will be selected by random drawin on Monday, 1 September 2014 and notified via email.

I'm curious, as more of my email has asked about romance audiobook recommendations: do you listen to audiobooks? Where do you listen? I'm repeating the question in the widget, but I haven't found a way to share only parts of the widget information, so I'm being nosy over here, too. I've listened to a great many more audiobooks this year than last, especially when I walk the dogs, and repeatedly check the Audible daily deal and vendor sales for new titles. What about you? (And good luck!)

  1. Bibliophile says:

I listen to audiobooks while I do housework, when I’m doing mindless tasks on the computer (like organising my music collection into playlists or tagging songs), and when I am doing crafts that I can’t do while watching TV, e.g. painting. I tried listening in the car, but it distracted me from the driving so I stopped.

Unfortunately I don’t have access to Audible in my country, but the library has a good selection of audio books and I own several I like to listen to again and again, like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Harry potter books and some of the Naxos classics.

  2. Mary says:

Me too, listen while walking and cleaning 🙂

  3. Janet says:

I listen to audio books whenever and where ever. I mostly listen when I am driving or doing my run, but I have been known to start an audio book while I am at work.

I used to work for Audible and I have hundreds of books in my library.

  4. Crystal says:

I work as an autism consultant for (hold on, I’m counting), yeah, 5 counties.  That entails a lot of time in one’s car.  Which I kill by audiobooking it.

  5. Beth K. says:

I grew attached to audiobooks when I worked in a bakery years ago, and for road trips (my family is all spread out).  They help the time pass quickly.  Now, I stay at home with our three kiddos and there is NO time for reading.  Audiobooks are a great way to have some “me” time while still getting household crud off the to-do-list.

  6. Julie says:

I listen to audio books going to and from work, cleaning, exercising, and walking the dog. Also love podcasts, except when the DBSA podcast has me cackling out loud and people look at me funny. 😉

  7. jenniferh says:

I listen to audiobooks whole knitting or sewing, while cooking, while driving or taking the train and while walking – basically anytime I can.

  8. I listen to audiobooks whenever my hands and/or eyes are occupied, but my brain is free. Walking from one place to another. Grocery shopping. Exercising. Working. Doing chores (I’m really thorough with the chores when listening to audiobooks…) Long-distance bus rides while I crochet granny squares. Short-distance bus rides when the route is too bumpy to read ebooks.

The only time I don’t listen to audiobooks is at home, sitting down. I can’t concentrate on the audiobook if I’m not doing something. My mind wanders, I doze off… Audiobooks are for times when I can’t read using my eyes.

I’ve tried audiobooks when driving, by sticking the iTouch in my bra and listening to something familiar. It has to be a re-listen as I can’t concentrate fully on the story, and the experience is not optimal, though it works to keep me awake. Luckily, I don’t drive much. Walking’s better for audiobooks, except when the book is hilarious and I go around grinning like a loon. I probably scare my fellow pedestrians. 😉

  9. denise says:

    I’d listen at home.

    He has a great voice!

  10. Darlynne says:

There is always an audiobook in my car, just always. They used to be for road trips, but now are required, like a steering wheel and windshield. Some people think the starting/stopping of in-city driving would be frustrating, whereas it has the opposite effect for me: I don’t mind being stuck at lights or waiting in line because I have my books.

    Thanks for the contest.

  11. Celia Marsh says:

I can only listen to audiobooks if I’ve already read the stories, because I’m weird about hearing things—I stop paying attention from time to time, so if it’s a new to me book I’m totally lost, whereas if it’s a book I know, I can figure out where I am again.  I like to listen to them while I’m at work—it gives my brain something to do during the boring parts of the day.

  12. Kate I. says:

Audiobooks are a great way to pass the time (and ease the frustration) while sitting in traffic during my commute time.  The headphones would have to be used anywhere but behind the wheel, mostly during the hours of semi-mindless computer work at my job.

  13. Kelly S. says:

I listen to audiobooks in the car.  They are great for road trips.  I also quilt as a hobby but it doesn’t require my full brain much of the time.  Therefore, I’ll listen when sewing.

  14. Bea says:

@ms bookjunkie: everything you said, word for word! This is an awesome giveaway. I’ve already purchased all Kinsale/Boulton titles. Nick Boulton’s voice and narration are perfection. And when combined with Laura Kinsale’s beautiful prose you are in for a treat. The downside is picking another audiobook after you finish one of these, the bar is set pretty high. Now I’m waiting for the release of Seize the Fire.

  15. Christina says:

I normally listen at work (when I’m not doing what seems like endless training), but I’ve got a cross-country trip in a few weeks and it would be nice to drown out the screaming children on the airplane with some audio books! (I’m assuming there will be screaming children- every flight I’ve been on in the last five years has had screaming children, including the red-eye commuters).

  16. Moriah says:

I listen while walking the dog, driving to/from work, doing yard work, and sometimes at work.

  17. Kay says:

I listen in my car, so much that I miss the news and the live traffic updates. Some mornings I get stuck in traffic but hey, more of the story for me so no worries!

  18. Violet Bick says:

I too discovered I cannot listen to books while driving. I miss too much of the book while concentrating on driving (as I should concentrate on driving). But while out for a walk is good.

  19. LaineyT says:

LOL…it’s funny how so many of us seem to want (need?) a distraction from housework.  That’s my choice too, along with using an audiobook as something to make the daily walk zip by.

  20. Katie Lynn says:

I listen to audiobooks all. the. time. While cooking, cleaning, driving, knitting. I find I’m usually happier with my hands busy, and as I cannot read while also putting on a dinner, it gives me the chance to explore more books than I would otherwise have time for.

  21. Phyllis Lamken says:

OOOOH, I want to listen to For My Lady’s Heart.

  22. DonnaMarie says:

Only in the car. And rarely fiction. I was a speech forensics competitor for years, so I’m constantly critiquing the narrator’s performance choices, which really distracts from the enjoyment. I stick to non-fiction, and my favorite so far has been Craig Ferguson’s American on Purpose.

  23. Lady Wesley says:

I listen at work, in the car, and while exercising.

Congress should pass a law requiring Nicholas Boulton to narrate every romance novel in the world. He is the absolute best.

  24. I listen while I am cleaning the house.  I consider housework a necessary evil, so listening to an audiobook is my reward for doing the housework! I also listen at work during my breaks and lunch. I work at Walmart. Trust me, listening to an audiobook romance novel keeps me sane and reminds me there is a civilized, intelligent world out there.

  25. Ruth Skylark says:

I don’t watch TV so I read or listen to books whenever I can! Driving to work, grocery shopping, fixing dinner. I love Kindle/ audio books switcheroo on my phone, so I never have to stop – except when real people want to interact with me…
I love the 2 Kinsale audio books I have – Nick Boulton does a great job! I have the others in paperback, but it’s time to add audio (hint, hint: me, me!)
Appreciate the offer of a give-away!

  26. hilly says:

    I would listen on the docks; I would listen on local blocks;
    I would listen with shrill peacocks; I would listen with hunky jocks; I would listen with noisy macaques;
    I would listen in socks with clocks; I would listen in frocks or crocs;
And to rhyme outside the box:
it is not at all bullocks
to say that Laura’s writing rocks,
    And I will listen despite the mocks;
And so, in sum (if you still care), I would listen anywhere!

    😉

    Thanks for offering the giveaways!

  27. Grace says:

I’m a potter and since I have no time to read anymore, I get all my “reading” done in the studio through audio books.
