Buy & gift & binge & glom? Sure why not, right?

Book Everything I Know About Love

Everything I Know About Love I Learned from Romance Novels is $2.99 digitally. I wrote this so I can't say anything about it without cringing and turning purple – unattractive purple. But I'll try!

So I wrote this. It came out in 2011, and it's a crowdsourced nonfiction celebration of everything that's entirely awesome about romance novels. Like, if this book were a cake, it would have ten layers and when you cut into it, balloons that say ROMANCE IS THE BEST would fly out at medium rates of speed. Each chapter celebrates a particular lesson we learn from romance (such as being the heroine of our own lives, and that happy endings take work), and there's a LOT of interviews, too, with Lisa Kleypas, Christina Dodd, and Lois McMaster Bujold, who shared all sorts of really cool information about Miles and the Vorkosigans.

Sidenote: how come Keeping up with the Vorkosigans IS NOT A THING? It should be a thing!

Anyway. I feel like a giant prat being all, LOOKEE MY BOOK IS ON SALE but it's my book and many of you are in it (RedHeadedGirl makes an appearance, and it's funny) and I'm very proud of it. It's $2.99, and if you were curious about it, $3 is a pretty spiffy price.

Shutting up now.

Take a dashing hero with a heart of gold and a mullet of awesome. Add a heroine with a bustle and the will to kick major butt. Then include enough contrivances to keep them fighting while getting them alone and possibly without key pieces of clothing, and what do you have? A romance novel. What else? Enough lessons about life, love, and everything in between to help you with your own happily-ever-after.

Lessons like…

•Romance means believing you are worthy of a happy ending

•Learning to tell the prince from the frog

•Real-life romance is still alive and kicking

•No matter how bad it is, at least you haven't been kidnapped by a Scottish duke (probably)

Book Devil's Cub

RECOMMENDED: Devil's Cub by Georgette Heyer is $2.99. This is the first Heyer I read, and I really, really enjoyed it. If you've read These Old Shades, the hero is the eldest son of the Duke of Avon and Leonie, the couple from that book. I gave it an A when I reviewed it and wrote:

Every time I come across a list of “romance novels you will reread and keep forever,” Heyer has a place on that list. And yet, I’d never read one of her books – I know, a large hole in my romance education. Based on the recent recommendations on SBTB, I ordered a copy of this book on half.com and when it arrived, the cover art proclaimed this book to be Very Very Vintage. I mean, come on. Her hair is magenta. MAGENTA, people, for the love of all that is holy. I have to scan in this cover because seriously. Ma. Genta.

But while the cover is dated, thankfully, quality never expires.

Like father, like son…

Dominic Alistair, Marquis of Vidal and fiery son of the notorious Duke of Avon, has established a rakish reputation that rivals his father's, living a life of excess and indulgence. Banished to the Continent after wounding his opponent in a duel, Vidal schemes to abduct the silly aristocrat bent on seducing him into marriage and make her his mistress instead. In his rush, however, he seems to have taken the wrong woman…

A young lady of remarkable fortitude…

Determined to save her sister from ruin, virtuous Mary Challoner intercepts the Marquis's advances and throws herself into his path, hoping Vidal will release her upon realizing his error. But as the two become irrevocably entangled, Mary's reputation and future lie in the hands of a devilish rake, who finds her more fascinating every day…

Book Laid Bare

Laid Bare by Lauren Dane is $2.99 digitally at Amazon. Fingers crossed that others match it. Normally, the Brown family books are very expensive digitally, so this is a great price if you've been thinking of trying this series. This is the first book in that series, and it has a 3.9-star average on GoodReads.

It’s been ten years since clean-cut, sexy-as-hell police officer Todd Keenan had a white-hot fling with wild, uninhibited rocker Erin Brown. What happened between them got under his skin—even if love wasn’t in the cards just yet…

Now that they’re back together, picking up where they left off is tough in light of Erin’s troubled past. As Todd earns her trust, their relationship takes an unexpected turn.

Todd’s best friend, Ben, comes to play, arousing their deepest fantasies. The passion they share transforms Erin, but it may not be enough to face the evil she thought she had left behind.

Book Liberating Lacey

RECOMMENDED: Liberating Lacey by Anne Calhoun is $4.16, or $3.29 after rebate at AllRomance. If you've been waiting for the price to drop, now's your chance.

This is an erotic contemporary romance, and one of Calhoun's earlier books. When I reviewed it, I gave it a B- and wrote:

Lacey is newly divorced, exceptionally stylish and classy, smart, cultured, and holy shit wealthy. She doesn’t have to work, but she enjoys what she does, and likes the challenge of her job in commercial real estate finance. She’s just alone, and wants to try a one night stand, after hearing so much about the hotness of it from her best friend.

So Lacey goes to a club to scope out the men, and meets Hunter, a cop who notices her right away because she stands out. She’s a little older, a little more polished, a lot more classy, and a lot out of place in that club. The tension between them is immediate, and they leave together. But instead of a one night stand, something Hunter has some experience with, he finds he can’t get Lacey out of his head, while she’s trying to adhere to the rules of commitment-less sexual encounters. She doesn’t want to be needy because she knows the rules of hooking up, and because it may cost her emotionally, but as Hunter finds that he wants more of her, he fears needing her as well.

I loved that the tension was enormous and based on incendiary sexual attraction and a vast craggy and complex valley of differences between them. They aren’t so different when they’re horizontal, but vertically they’re so different at times Hunter doesn’t know what to say to her.

Newly divorced Lacey Meyers wasted too many years yawning through sex in the missionary position. Now she's looking for a hookup with a man who can make her shatter. What she gets is a hot younger cop with handcuffs…and he's not afraid to use them.

Hunter Anderson knows the score–though classy, successful women like Lacey might play with guys like him, at the end of the evening, they walk. But when one night leads to another and then another, he finds himself getting too attached to a woman he can't have. Lacey knows Hunter–gorgeous, hard-edged and eight years younger–won't want anything permanent.

No matter how hot and daring he makes her first public sex, quickie, backseat encounter and secret fantasy role-play, she can't mistake adventurous sex for emotional involvement. They both know it's got to end, and soon, or someone's going to get hurt. But can either of them go back to life without the other?

Reader Advisory: Lacey's highly erotic “forced” sex fantasy comes true in this book. Lucky her!

  1. Darlynne says:

I enthusiastically recommend EVERYTHING I KNOW ABOUT LOVE to everyone, so let the purple go, SB Sarah. It’s a great book, one that’s helped me talk about romance novels with confidence and enthusiasm. And you made me laugh, a lot.

  2. laj says:

I agree whole-heartedly with Darlynne. I’ll add that it’s definitely a book all romance readers need to own.

  3. L. says:

Devil’s Cub was my first Georgette Heyer. For the first half of the book I was totally on board with the heroine. She had both brains and guts. But then…  well, no spoilers, but it was like my feisty girl was kidnapped by aliens and replaced by a TSTL golem.

  4. Amanda Blair says:

I really think the Vorkosigan saga would make a GREAT series for HBO or Starz or something. Someone make this happen.

  5. PamG says:

Maybe it’s just me, but I really can’t comprehend the anatomy on the cover of Laid Bare.  Is somebody dipped in chocolate?

  6. chacha1 says:

two new books for my Kindle … !  very much looking forward to reading “Everything I … “. 🙂

  7. DonnaMarie says:

EIKAL was my waiting room book for quite some time. Always elicited that snort/laugh that makes people watch you from the corner of their eye.

Can’t recommend the Brown Siblings books enough. If you like your (book) sexy times hot and dirty, and a little kinky this book has YOU written all over it. And while Laid Bare is great, it’s the next one in the series, Coming Undone featuring big brother Brody, that’s on my ‘please make this crappy day go away’ pile.

  8. Chris Z says:

Just curious, I went to buy your book (can’t wait to read it!) and I saw that it is also part of the Amazon Unlimited program.  How does that work?  Do you get royalties if someone reads it through the program?
