Book Diamond Dust

Diamond Dust by Vivian Arend is .99 for the month of July at all vendors. This book has been nominated for a 2014 RITA® in the Paranormal category. We have two RITA® reviews for this book. Syaffole gave it a C, saying, “On a superficial level, Diamond Dust is a light and fun read.  I was not a fan of the beginning—which started with a wedding and made me feel like I was cheating and reading the end of the book first. However there are many funny moments, ranging from Caroline’s rather unorthodox methods in diffusing a shifter fight at a restaurant to the outrageous endgame at a poolside party.”

Darbi echoed Syaffole's review, and gave the book a C+ saying, “Diamond Dust falls down pretty hard on basic literary qualities like “plot” and “characterization,” but it really is greater than the sum of its parts and still is pretty fun.”

She can’t shift, but she can shake their world.

Takhini Wolves, Book 3

Caroline Bradley is having one hell of a week. Her wolf lover has sniffed out his mate, making her an instant free agent. Not only that, Takhini territory has been overrun with aggressive bear-shifters electing a clan leader, and the wolf pack is feeling the effects—pushing her diplomatic skills to the limit.

Tyler Harrison is a grizzly on a mission. If he’s going to win the majority of the bears’ votes, he needs one final thing: a female companion. The only woman in town with influence over wolves, humans, and more bears than he’d like to admit, is Caroline.

Despite the sexual pull between them, though, Tyler’s not seeking a permanent relationship. And Caroline isn’t looking to be anyone else’s political pawn. But she should have remembered that when shifters are involved, changes happen in the blink of an eye.

Warning: Billionaire bear hero plus kick-ass human heroine equals a sexually volatile power struggle. Get ready for what might be the naughtiest game of tag that’s ever been played in the great outdoors.

Book Ghouls Rush In

Ghouls Rush In is a Kindle Daily Deal at $1.99, and since this is an Amazon Montlake book, that price is only available there. This is a paranormal mystery/romance, and the first in the Peyton Clark series. This book has a 3.9-star average on GR, and readers really enjoyed the humor and the heroine, who is a divorcee who left her controlling husband to move into a haunted Antebellum mansion in New Orleans with the intention to restore it.

Looking for a fresh start, Peyton Clark becomes the proud owner of a piece of New Orleans history: an Antebellum-era two-story house in the Garden District. It’s going to take time and a fat wallet to restore the fixer-upper to its former glory, but after her recent divorce, Peyton could use the distraction.

It’s not long before Peyton discovers she’s moved into the haunted home of a flirtatious paranormal prankster. She’s receiving kisses from unseen lips and caresses from a ghostly hand, and soon she begins to have vivid dreams, bringing her face-to-face with the incomparably handsome ghost of Drake Montague.

When Peyton grows closer to her general contractor, Ryan Kelly—who is as charming as he is alive—the chill in the air could only suggest Drake’s jealousy from beyond the grave. But even though she’s definitely attracted to and interested in Ryan, Peyton also can’t get Drake out of her dreams, or her heart, as she begins to uncover the frightening truth behind his death a century ago…

Book The Chocolate Rose

RECOMMENDED: The Chocolate Rose by Laura Florand is free at Amazon – and I thought it would be elsewhere, but it's $3.99 at other vendors. Weirdness! Anyway, this is a contemporary romance, and the first book in Florand's La Vie en Roses series, and the the third in her Amour et Chocolat series.

I'm a fan of the Amour et Chocolat series, especially books 2 and 3. I liked this one, too. It's a twist on the revenge-visited-upon-the-offspring plotline: the hero is a famous chef whose mentor stole his design for a dessert and claimed it for his own on the cover of a now-famous cookbook. That man's daughter is now a food writer, and the hero demands her help to write a cookbook. The plot is complicated and emotionally touching, and as usual, the setting (Provence) is as much as character as the hero and heroine – which I love.

Her father’s worst enemy…

Top chef Gabriel Delange never forgave his old nemesis Pierre Manon for all the other chef had cost him.

One stolen rose…

And he most certainly couldn’t stand the sight of his own most famous dessert, the legendary Rose, claimed as Pierre’s own on the cover of his new cookbook.

A substitute victim…

But even Gabriel could hardly go through with a lawsuit when he learned the older chef had just had a stroke. Especially not when Pierre had one very cute daughter willing to be Gabriel’s victim instead.

Jolie Manon…

As a child, Jo had seen her family torn apart by her top chef father’s obsession with his work. She had given years of her own adult life to trying to pull him out of depression, after he lost a star. Now a food writer, she might be fascinated with a chef’s work, but she knew how to guard her heart. She would never allow another chef into her life.

Unless he blackmailed her into it…

Welcome to the heat and sun of Provence, where jasmine and roses climb up old colored walls, where fountains play in ancient stone villages, and where even a beast can prove he is a prince at heart…

Book The Raven Ring

The Raven Ring by Patricia C. Wrede is a Kindle Daily Deal at $1.99 and it's being price matched at BN – yay! Nice job, price matching fairies! This is a YA fantasy novel originally published in 1995, and is book 5 in the Lyra series. It has a 3.9-star average on Goodreads, and readers there say you don't need to read the series in order to appreciate this book. I really liked this review from Ruby

This is my favorite of all the Wrede books I have (most if not all of them). It is amazingly multi-faceted for a fantasy novel – not a genre which is known for complexity of style! In addition to the fantasy elements, it is also a murder mystery, a comedy of manners, a classic girl-meets-boys-&-chooses-one romance, and it is one of the best examples I've ever come across of the ubiquitous sci fi/fantasy theme of “culture shock”. That's a lot to pack into one little book!

What a great review, right?

The world of Lyra is the world of two moons which humans share with the folk of magic: the silvery people of the ancient Shee, the elusive forest-dwelling Wyrd, and the dread Shadow Born, whose evil seeps into men's hearts and the shadows of the world. In this Lyra adventure, a proud young mountain woman must leave her stronghold to travel to the city and accomplish a bitter task. Her mother, a soldier, died suddenly in the line of duty there, leaving behind the beautiful Raven Ring — an ancient family heirloom that is much, much more than it seems.

Retrieving her mother's ring is a simple matter — but getting it home again will prove no easy task. For there are dark forces at work in Lyra….

Fanning the Flames (novella) by Victoria Dahl is free right now on Amazon (and other retailers probably).

    Possessive rapist ghost!

Sometimes it would be much more efficient if the book description simply said, “NO.”

@Carrie thanks for the heads up on Dahl’s book!  I got my copy.
