Books on Sale: Beverly Jenkins’ Destiny Series!

Book Destiny's EmbraceRECOMMENDED: Destiny's Embrace is .99c today at Amazon as a KDD. YAY! This book was the Sizzling Book Club Pick in February 2013, and I really enjoyed it, especially the parts about the establishment of the state of California. I think my favorite scenes are Mariah's train ride across the country, and how she stares down Logan once she gets to Destiny. This series is just fantastic.

Gentleman Seeks Housekeeper. Must be willing to travel.

Desperate for another life away from Philadelphia, headstrong and beautiful Mariah Cooper answers an advertisement for a housekeeper at the other end of the continent. Waiting in California is the most breathtaking–and arrogant–man she has ever met… and he'd like nothing better than for Mariah to go back home!

Logan Yates has run Destiny, the family ranch, since he was a boy. He doesn't need this Eastern miss his stepmother hired, though his home's chaotic state suggests otherwise. Still, he's secretly pleased that Mariah gives as good as she gets–and he must fight the urge to take her in his arms and kiss her whenever she proudly stands her ground.

But when he's in danger of losing her, Logan will have to choose between pride . . . and his heart's true desire.

Book Destiny's Surrender

RECOMMENDED: Destiny's Surrender by Bevery Jenkins is $1.99! Another auto-buy author for a lot of readers! This is the second book in her Destiny series and follows Andrew, Logan's brother. He has a particularly unique relationship with a courtesan named Billie, who shows up on his doorstep with a child she says is his – and with the intention of leaving her son there so he can have a better life and escape the danger that's closely following Billie. This book has an impressive 4.2-star rating on GR. (And Logan and Andrew's mom is one of the best characters ever. I love her.)

The child he didn't know he had . . .

Andrew Yates has come to a decision: it's time to stop sowing those oats and start a family. But searching for a bride isn't as simple as he'd hoped, and many of the respectable women of his acquaintance feel . . . lacking. Then beautiful, feisty Wilhelmina “Billie” Wells arrives at the family ranch with a toddler in her arms, claiming Drew is the father!

The woman he didn't know he loved . . .

Billie had no choice but to show up at Destiny in search of Drew. For the sake of their child, she's willing to leave him with his father so the boy can have a better life, but then, before she can blink, she's saying “I do” in front of a preacher in a marriage of convenience. All Billie and Drew have in common is the heat that brought them together, but can their sizzling passion lead to an everlasting love?

Book Destiny's Captive

Destiny's Captive is book 3 in the Destiny series, and it comes out in October 2014. I'm listing it here because you can pre-order it for $4.74 at Amazon, or $4.99 elsewhere. So you could theoretically buy the trilogy for less than $9 total, if, you know, you were the type of person who does that. Which I so am. No question. In part because the tagline is, “She stole his ship… and his heart. As you do.

In national bestselling author Beverly Jenkins' Destiny series, the Yates men play hard and live hard. And when they find that special woman, they fall hard . . .

Noah Yates fully believes in the joys of a happy family and a good wife. But that's not the life for him. No, he would much rather sail the wild seas in search of adventure, not tied down. But then the unthinkable happens . . . he finds himself literally tied down. To a bed. By a woman.

And Pilar isn't just an ordinary woman. She's descended from pirates. And after giving him one of the worst nights of his life, she steals his ship! Now Noah is on the hunt, and he'll stop at nothing to find this extraordinary woman . . . and make her his.

I’m glad these were on sale – I snapped them up when I checked the KDD earlier this morning. I’ve resolved to try new authors – especially authors of color – after your podcast a while back regarding the packaging and promotion of books and how the cover affect sales (possibly because of location in the bookstore and also that white readers feel like those books aren’t “meant for us”). I like a new perspective and some variety in my reading, and Beverly’s plots here sound really interesting. I’m ready for a break from the Regency ballroom, anyway.

I just glommed a book called “The Sisterhood”, about a convent of nuns in Inquisition-era Spain. It had that “back and forth in time” effect that Susanna Kearsley’s books have, so while some time was spent in contemporary Spain and America, most of it was back in old Spain and in the New World, as the Spanish settled in South America. Really interesting stuff, it’s on sale for $1.99, and it was really rich with historical detail.

After clicking on “Destiny’s Embrace,”  a $.99 cent companion audiobook was offered on Amazon. That was one of my fastest clicks in my far too frequent click history.

  3. HollyS says:

I read the first two, so good and I had no issue paying full price for them; both books were totally worth it.

Thanks for listing the preorder of the third book, I didn’t even know that it was out this year. Off to buy at BN.

I seriously love the cover art on that first one, and I usually dislike the whoopsy-my-dress-is-all-undone-at-the-back-but-magically-staying-up covers.

I had not previously read any Beverley Jenkins but I bought and read book 2 last week and gobbled the hell out of it. Unrepentant prostitute heroine who gives zero fucks? Oh. Hell. Yes.

I wanted to go back and read Destiny’s Embrace right away but the price point stopped me.  NOT A PROBLEM NOW! WEEEEEEE!

I grabbed the first one. I’ve been wondering about these for a while, and wanting to branch out into reading romances that feature POC, but not knowing where to start. Thanks for featuring this!

  8. Sydneysider says:

Beverley Jenkins is awesome. The Storm Series (Through the Storm/Winds of the Storm) is superb. Both books are set in Reconstruction era Louisiana.

Oh, yes, me too. I love that cover. The way the hero and heroine are positioned, it looks intimate and almost tentative, not… desperate or awkward or like someone’s having trouble breathing.

    AW HELL YEAH, Eh?
