Books on Sale: Paranormal Romance with a Preorder and a Lone Historical

Book Archangel's Shadow

Archangel's Shadows by Nalini Singh is on preorder for $5.99 at Amazon! Big thanks to Lindleepw  for letting us know! This is the seventh book in Singh's popular Guild Hunter series and it won't be released until October. The heroine is cursed to know the secrets of anyone she comes into contact with, and the book's hero and heroine seem to have a pretty heft past. Another Singh book is also on preorder for $5.99, Night Shift (A), an anthology featuring other authors like Ilona Andrews, Lisa Shearin, and Milla Vane

In the wake of a brutal war, the archangel Raphael and his hunter consort, Elena, are dealing with the treacherously shifting tides of archangelic politics and the people of a battered but not broken city. The last thing their city needs is more death, especially a death that bears the eerie signature of an insane enemy archangel who cannot— should not—be walking the streets.

This hunt must be undertaken with stealth and without alerting their people. It must be handled by those who can become shadows themselves…

Ash is a gifted tracker and a woman cursed with the ability to sense the secrets of anyone she touches. But there’s one man she knows all too well without a single instant of skin contact: Janvier, the dangerously sexy Cajun vampire who has fascinated and infuriated her for years. Now, as they track down a merciless killer, their cat-and-mouse game of flirtation and provocation has turned into a profound one of the heart. And this time, it is Ash’s secret, dark and terrible, that threatens to destroy them both.

Book Obsession Untamed

Obsession Untamed by Pamela Palmer is $2.99! This is the second book in the Feral Warriors series and features a romance between an FBI agent and a shapeshifter named Tighe (naturally). Readers recommend tackling the series in order, rather than reading them as standalone novels. The cover model also reminds me of Ivan Drago from Rocky IV, which happens to be my favorite. The book has a whopping 4-star rating on GR! My guess is that it has everything to do with the Drago doppelganger.

They are called Feral Warriors—an elite band of immortals who can change shape at will. Sworn to rid the world of evil, consumed by sorcery and seduction, their wild natures are primed for release . . .

Every time she closes her eyes, Delaney Randall suffers another nightmare. A brutal serial killer has found his way inside the tough, take-no-prisoners FBI agent's head. Now she lives the murders through his eyes, from his deadly approach to his victims' screams—until the night he breaks into her apartment and she fears she's going to be the next to die.

But the man who snatches Delaney from her home isn't the murderer. He's Tighe, a dangerous Feral Warrior who needs her and her visions to stop the rampages of a creature as inhuman as he is evil. Tighe has little use for humans, but as he and Delaney join forces to track the dark fiend, he falls for the intense beauty and becomes wild with an obsession as untamed as his heart.

Book Once Burned

Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost is $1.99! This is the start of her Night Prince paranormal romance series. Our hero is a vampire named Vlad (Yes, the very Vlad from Frost's Night Huntress series) with the crazy scary ability to control fire and a heroine with the affinity for electricty. Readers loved the blend of action and intimacy, but some felt the book started to slow during the second half. Has anyone else read this one?

She's a mortal with dark powers…

After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person's darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude…until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world's most infamous vampire…

He's the Prince of Night…

Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all—but whatever you do, don't call him Dracula. Vlad's ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him—a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

Book The Luckiest Lady in London

The Luckiest Lady in London by Sherry Thomas is $1.99. Our lone historical, this was brought to our attention by the awesome Clinic Cynic on Twitter. Cat nip alert for those who are interested in marriages of convenience! Readers absolutely loved the dialogue, as did our resident Carrie S. However, she wound up giving the book a C+:

Some books are good books that are extra enjoyable because they hit one of my emotional buttons. Some books that are good books in technical terms completely fail to give me “good book sigh” because they hit triggers instead. The Luckiest Lady in London is proving to be my least favorite Sherry Thomas book because it hits my emotional triggers in the wrong way.

Felix Rivendale, the Marquess of Wrenworth, is The Ideal Gentleman, a man all men want to be and all women want to possess. Felix himself almost believes this golden image. But underneath is a damaged soul soothed only by public adulation.

Louisa Cantwell needs to marry well to support her sisters. She does not, however, want Lord Wrenworth—though he seems inexplicably interested in her. She mistrusts his outward perfection and the praise he garners everywhere he goes. But when he is the only man to propose at the end of the London season, she reluctantly accepts.

Louisa does not understand her husband's mysterious purposes, but she cannot deny the pleasure her body takes in his touch. Nor can she deny the pull this magnetic man exerts upon her. But does she dare to fall in love with a man so full of dark secrets, anyone of which could devastate her, if she were to get any closer?

The Luckiest Lady in London was sort of my gateway to the genre and I highly recommend it. It’s also my favorite of the books she’s written. (Although the Burning Sky is also very, very good, but it’s YA, so a little different.)

I really wish I liked Nalini Singh, but I feel like the books she writes are just outside my ability to suspend disbelief.

Also by Sherry Thomas, Claiming the Countess, a short story about the stepmom from Beguiling the Beauty, is on sale for 0.00 for sure at Amazon and I think everywhere since the description says it is supposed to be free.

  3. Lynnd says:

Just to let the Canadian readers know that the Nalini Singh books are NOT on sale in Canada.  Agency still lives and breathes up here 🙁 (Damn you Kobo).

    @Lynnd

Um, if you really want to,  I’m pretty sure your Kobo account can take a vacation to the US…

  5. Milly says:

@leftcoaster – when you click on the amazon link (even though I never converted to the Canadian account) it gives the higher non-sale price.  Lots of deals available in the US not available to us up here.

@Lynnd – very interesting reading!  Thanks for the link.  Kobo may just have a valid case… will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

  6. Lynne says:

@Milky and @leftcoaster my amazon.com account automatically defaults to the higher Canadian price.  A few months ago, it used to show the US price until I clicked on the page for the actual item. Now it just shows the Cdn price eveywhere and redirects me to amazon.ca to buy the item.  Is there a way to give my account a weekend away if I don’t have a US credit card?

This price issue has been a thorn in our sides for both print and ebooks (and cars, gasoline electronics, cellphone service, clothes and just about everything else) for years even when our dollar was worth more than the US$. The arguments by Kobo in response to the competition bureau are not new or unique in any way, especially since Kobo is now owned by a major Japanese multinational corporation (yes I am a cynic).

  7. Lynnd says:

Sorry @Milly, autocorrect defeated me again.

  8. kkw says:

I loved Once Burned. The heroine is a circus performer, the hero is Vlad Tepesh. Who wouldn’t want to know more? I hadn’t read the Cat and Bones books, and it in no way interfered with my enjoyment.

  9. Tam B... says:

    @ Lynne
I use gift cards to get around the US c/card issue.  I’m in Australia and courtesy of a cousin’s US address, gift cards and subscribing to an US IP supplier, I have a second US Amazon account to take advantage of sales and US pricing or simply being able to buy books in e-format.  Thus Aust’ me sends gift cards to US me.

Then lengths we go to for books. 🙂

My apologies if this isn’t appropriate.  Please delete if so.

You know, when I read the Luckiest Lady in London I thought the hero sounded like a sociopath.  he really creeped me out.  I loved the heroine though.
