Books On Sale

Books on Sale: The Dark Hunter Mega-Set is $20 Again, Plus Contemporary & Paranormal Deals

Book The Dark Hunters The collection boxed set

The Dark Hunters – The Collection Thus Far by Sherrilyn Kenyon is $19.99 at Amazon. That's 25 books plus a companion book for $20, which works out to about $1 each.

Y'ALL.

When Jane told me about this one I thought she was joking, but no, it's real. The price went back up to $140+ but now it's $19.99 again. This is still one of the most bizarre books on sale deals I've seen. This is 25 books plus The Dark-Hunter Companion in one digital file – with the warning, “Due to its large file size, this book may take longer to download“. Ha. YOU DON'T SAY.

The Amazon price appears to be the lowest right now, and at BN it's listed at $147.82 (egads) but if ever there was a time for the price matching fairies to have a showdown – or better yet a dance off! – this would be it. I'm leaving the other retailer link up with fingers crossed in hopes they all discount this one for a time.

Anyone feel like an epic glom for $20?

This collection includes: Fantasy Lover, Night Pleasures, Night Embrace, Seize the Night, Night Play, Kiss of the Night, Sine of the Night, Unleash the Night, One Silent Night, Dance with the Devil, Dark Side of the Moon, The Dream Hunter, Devil May Cry, Upon the Midnight Clear, Dream Chaser, Acheron, Dream Warrior, Bad Moon Rising, No Mercy, Retribution, The Guardian, Time Untime, & The Dark Hunter Companion.

According to GoodReads, that's books 0.5, 1-17, 19, 21-22 and 24.

Book Recklessly Royal

Recklessly Royal by Nichole Chase is .99 at Amazon, Google Play, and Kobo. I imagine the BN fairy is not putting up with that for long and will take aim at the price of this book as well. I hope, anyway. This is a contemporary romance about, yes, royalty, and is the second book in the Suddenly series.

Carrie reviewed the first book, Suddenly Royal, and thought it read like YA only with leaping shifts in tone to make room (heh) for sexual content. Reviews on this one are mixed, too. Some loved the fairy-tale good-girl's-had-enough story, while others felt it was too light. Overall, the books has a 3.5+ star average at GR.

Catherine has spent her life being the perfect princess. She’s kept her hands clean, her head down, and most importantly—men at arm’s length. After all, most men are after only one thing, and for Cathy there’s a lot more at stake than her bed; she has to worry about the fate of an entire nation. But at the rate she’s going, Cathy is afraid she’ll give the Virgin Queen a run for her money. She is tired of waiting for someone good enough to come along. She has a plan, and it all hinges on seducing the one man who seems utterly unimpressed by all things royal. The one man she is tempted by more than any other . . .

When David arrives at the royal wedding of his friend, the newly ordained Duchess Samantha Rousseau, he expected to feel uncomfortable and out of his element, but he wasn’t prepared to be targeted by Prince Alex’s gorgeous younger sister. With Cathy’s giant blue eyes, killer figure, and sense of humor, it won’t take long before he gives in. But when he finds out just how innocent the crown princess really is, will he play the part of knight in shining armor or the dashing rogue?

Book What She Wants

What She Wants by Sheila Roberts is .99c at BN and Amazon. Hey, Kobo and Google fairies! Over here! This is the third book in Roberts' Icicle Falls series, a contemporary small town romance series. Some reviewers indicated that they started with this book and had no problems catching up.

The plot of this book is unique: three men having trouble in their personal lives discover romance novels and realize, as per the cover copy, that “these stories are the world's best textbooks on love.” Some readers found the plot device very charming, while others were disappointed to only have the men's point of view. I confess to being a bit leery of reading about romance novels IN romance novels – have you read this book?

Jonathan Templar and his poker buddies can't figure it out. Take Jonathan, for instance. He's been in love with Lissa Castle since they were kids but, geek that he is, she's never seen him as her Mr. Perfect. He has one last shot—their high school reunion. Kyle Long is equally discouraged. The pretty receptionist at his office keeps passing him over for other guys who may be taller but are definitely not superior. And Adam Edwards might be the most successful of Jonathan's friends, but he isn't having any success on the home front. His wife's kicked him out.

When Jonathan stumbles on a romance novel at the Icicle Falls library sale, he knows he's found the love expert he's been seeking—Vanessa Valentine, top-selling romance author. At first his buddies laugh at him for reading romance novels, but soon they, too, realize that these stories are the world's best textbooks on love. Poker night becomes book club night…and when all is read and done, they're going to be the kind of men women want!

Dark and Deadly is a .99c boxed set of eight paranormal romance stories by Jennifer Ashley, Alyssa Day, Erin Quinn and Caris Roane, among others. I can't figure out if this boxed set is all novellas, or a mix. I know the Day title is a novella, but I can't find the specifics.

  1. LauraL says:

What She Wants is actually the only book in the Icicle Falls series I have read. Have to say I enjoyed the read. Had no problem with the book being from the guys’ point of view and it was kind of cute how they put their book learning to work.

  2. CelineB says:

The Transplanted Tales series by Kate SeRine is on sale for $1.99 for each book. There’s three books in the series and one novella (also 1.99 but that’s not really a deal). I just finished Red, the first book in the series, and really enjoyed it. The series deals with fairy tale and literature characters that are transported to the real world after a spell goes wrong but that’s where the similarities to Once Upon a Time end. The first book is about Red Riding Hood and a grim reaper.

  3. SB Sarah says:

    @LauraL:

I’m so curious about this book – thank you!

  4. LauraL says:

@ SB Sarah – you are welcome. I read What She Wants last summer I was pretty much capable of reading only fun books while recovering from an injury. Certainly filled that prescription!

  5. That Sherrilyn Kenyon deal is kind of amazing; I don’t know that I’d want all the books in one file though, but I suppose that’s how those box sets work. I have one that’s 15 different authors in one file and I had issues. Though for a Kenyon completist, that’s a great deal.

  6. Joy says:

The Sherrilyn Kenyon deal is peculiar (though I did buy it).  It says its “complete so far” but GoodReads says it is missing 18,20 & 23.  What actually would be the titles of those missing numbers?  Anyone know?

  7. Lammie says:

@Stephanie Scott you can use Caliber to split box set books up into individual books – the Dear Author blog had a post about this not too long ago.

  8. Lisa J says:

@Stephanie Scott – Lammie is right about Calibre.  I bought the set last time it was on sale and used Calibre to split it up.  I love that feature and it is great to split up boxed sets.  I can’t tell you how many times I have bought a book only to find out it was part of a set I already own.  Now I have the title as a stand alone and can better track the titles.

  9. delia says:

@Joy: Goodreads lists book 18 as Infinity (Chronicles of Nick #1), Book 20 as Invincible (Chronicles of Nick #2), and Book 23 Infamous (Chronicles of Nick #3). These books are part of the Sherrilyn Kenyon’s YA line about Nick Gautier. Maybe that’s what the publisher counts as those books. She has several series that overlap so it’s hard to tell.

  10. Cat C says:

I tried the sample of What She Wants and just couldn’t do it, given current events. “Nerdy” men feeling entitled to women because they’re “good guys” is not something I can sympathize with right now. Usually romance novels help me escape all the awful things happening in the world, but not this one.

  11. Brynhild says:

Guys! Guys! Guys! I found my perfect book: Arouse by Nina Lane. It’s got a female lead who’s got problems and tries to deal with them in a realistic way. It’s got a male lead who’s a professor of medieval history (be still, my catnipped heart!). They’re married and still completely into each other. I haven’t yet reached the main conflict, but there are cracks beginning to show, just like in a real marriage, and I want to be there to watch them work it out. I haven’t yet had a romance play out so utterly vividly in my mind. The sex scenes are hot, and have me thinking back to certain times in my own marriage…

I’ve been looking for a realistic book about this sort of thing and have really fallen for this one. I could do a dance of joy. I hope the end of the book is just as good as the beginning. I do so want them to be happy and work it out.

Also, Lauren Blakely’s First Night, part of the Seductive Nights series, completely ensnared me. It’s short, steamy, and has consensual light bondage without any of the DSM, which is something I’ve been looking for. The female lead is a bartender, self-possessed and intelligent but not all that she seems, and the lead, while a typical rich dude hot guy, is finally NOT AN ASSHOLE. Their flirting is really endearing. They hook up for some NSA fun times but it’s super, super good and both of them want more. There’s an LDR aspect too, and knowing what an LDR is really like, I like that bit. It’s free at Amazon, and the subsequent books are not all that expensive. I’m going to start the second one soon and see if it’s as good as the ‘prequel’.

@Cat C: Seeing as how I’m in a group that mocks The Red Pill, I could. not. deal. Fuck entitlement. I’ll be giving this one a pass after all- thank you.
