Books On Sale

Books on Sale: Audible Zombies, Pretzels and Dinners You May Like

First off: it's Star Wars Day, so Amazon has a giant pile of Star Wars books and graphic novels on sale for today only. Any titles in that selection that you recommend?

Plus, here's a cool Audible Daily Deal!

Book My Life as a White Trash Zombie

My Life as a White Trash Zombie by Diana Rowland is the Audible Daily Deal at $2.95. This is an unabridged audiobook of more than eight hours (Road Trip!) performed by Allison McLemore. The audiobook has 4+ star averages for story and performance, while on GoodReads, the book has a 3.9 star average. Readers particularly liked the mix of zombies, folklore, and forensics, and the heroine, who narrates the story.

Angel Crawford is a loser.

Living with her alcoholic deadbeat dad in the swamps of southern Louisiana, she's a high school dropout with a pill habit and a criminal record who's been fired from more crap jobs than she can count. Now on probation for a felony, it seems that Angel will never pull herself out of the downward spiral her life has taken.

That is, until the day she wakes up in the ER after overdosing on painkillers. Angel remembers being in an horrible car crash, but she doesn't have a mark on her. To add to the weirdness, she receives an anonymous letter telling her there's a job waiting for her at the parish morgue—and that it's an offer she doesn't dare refuse.

Before she knows it she's dealing with a huge crush on a certain hunky deputy and a brand new addiction: an overpowering craving for brains. Plus, her morgue is filling up with the victims of a serial killer who decapitates his prey—just when she's hungriest!

Angel's going to have to grow up fast if she wants to keep this job and stay in one piece. Because if she doesn't, she's dead meat.

Literally.

Book Pretzel Making at Home. Look, it's carbs and salt. What's not to love?

Pretzel Making at Home by Andrea Slonecker is $1.99 digitally right now. While this may not be a romance, I tend to think of carbs and salt as one of my favorite pairings, so it's plenty romantic, see? What's not to love? Unless you're not able to eat gluten, in which case this book probably wouldn't make you happy. Which is a bummer.

This book has a 4+ star average on GR, though it's a pretty recent book, so there aren't many reviews. The reviews on Amazon are also very happy, including one that made me smile:

As a [G]erman, I have to review this book and give it 5 stars! I hesitated buying this book, because, well, I'm [G]erman and thought to myself, better get yourself a [G]erman book about traditional pretzel baking. But I was intrigued by what I read about this book, so I had to get it and see for myself.

What can I say, the author did a great job researching pretzels and their history, even travelled to Germany and gives lots of recipes about pretzels, pretzel snacks and sweets, and mustards (haven't tried those yet).

Here's a new twist on an old favorite: pretzels warm from the oven. DIY bakers can make their own crunchy, chewy, savory, or sweet artisan pretzels with this collection of 50 recipes that imagines every way to shape, fill, and top them.

Here are the traditional versions as well as novel creations such as Philly cheesesteak pretzel pockets and fried pretzel with cinnamon sugar.

More substantial dishes like wild mushroom and chestnut pretzel stuffing, and pretzel bread pudding with caramel sauce elevate the humble pretzel to dinner-table fare as this tantalizing cookbook takes a cherished everyday snack to the next level of culinary creativity.

Book Losing It

Losing It by Cora Carmack is $.99. This is a New Adult contemporary romance, and this book has been discounted a few times since its release – have you read it?

Virginity.

Bliss Edwards is about to graduate from college and still has hers. Sick of being the only virgin among her friends, she decides the best way to deal with the problem is to lose it as quickly and simply as possible– a one-night stand.

But her plan turns out to be anything but simple when she freaks out and leaves a gorgeous guy alone and naked in her bed with an excuse that no one with half-a-brain would ever believe.

And as if that weren't embarrassing enough, when she arrives for her first class of her last college semester, she recognizes her new theatre professor. She'd left him naked in her bed about 8 hours earlier.

I really enjoyed Losing It, as well as the second book in the series (different protagonists), Faking It.

Barnes & Noble has a weekend sale, “Up To 50% Off Spring Reading Favorites” – you might find titles of interest there. [http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/nook-book-sale/379003966]

  3. kkw says:

@ SB Sarah if despite your best efforts you find you’re so ridiculously attracted to carbs you just can’t stop thinking about their hair… Maybe try thinking about them having hair?

Personally, I don’t care what the world says, right or wrong I stand by my carbs.

  4. Lostshadows says:

Its not listed with the SW daily deal books, but Heir to the Empire is on sale for $1.99.

Original version, not the 20th Anniversary edition. (Other than foot notes and a extra novella, I don’t think there’s any difference between them.)

  5. Vicki says:

Thanks to Kate for the link. It’s nice to find nook sales, too.

  6. Niknik says:

Oh, I really love Diana Rowland’s zombie series. Soooo good.

  7. UlrikeDG says:

Oooo. I’ve been craving good, German, pretzel rolls lately, and none of my recipes have gotten close. Gonna try Pretzel Making at Home!

  8. Janessa says:

Just saw this post and missed out on the SW sale. D: Doesn’t matter though. Amazon isn’t really opened up here in Asia. But if you want a great romantic SW book. Check out The Courtship of Princess Leia. It takes place after The Return of the Jedi. To summarise, after the defeat of the Empire, the Republic is still struggling to remove traces of the empire in the galaxy. Leia goes on diplomatic missions while Han Solo hunts him down. So after a long 5 month mission he returns to find Leia being proposed to by a Prince who offers her rare gifts and be the future queen of his women led planet. Jealous and with nothing to offer, Hans Solo participates in an underground high stakes game to win a planet for Leia only to find out that it’s located witihn enemy territory. So what else can a scoundrel do but kidnaps the woman he loves and jumps into the falcon and into hyper drive to visit the lush and tropical planet he won to seduce her into loving him..

Yeap, my ultimate catnip. Did I mention that the planet is inhabited by Force weilding witches who takes men as slaves to breed with??

I really really love this book. Hans is Hans from the movie but in the book we really get to know him . It was fun to read this arrogant, infuriating man be brought down to feeling vulnerable and jealous when it comes to love.

  9. Nicola says:

My boyfriend is German and loves pretzels, but finds it hard to get them here in Australia. I forwarded him this post and he immediately went and bought Pretzel Making at Home… he’s been baking all weekend. I think we may drown in pretzels.

  10. SB Sarah says:

    @Nicola:

Oooh that’s awesome! How does he like the recipes? CAN YOU SHARE SOME PRETZELS?
