Amanda recommends this book, saying I feel like this book was an integral part of my adolescence. This is a YA novel that has spoken to a LOT of readers since its publication in 2001.

Nothing that interests me today, but I’m happily chugging through “The Admiral’s Penniless Bride” from yesterday. It has some great banter, and the Admiral is so socially inept – it’s really funny. 😛 He’s a far cry from the “smooth-talking rake” we usually see, and he’s all the more real and delightful for it. 🙂

I wish she finished series—the brothers looked interesting and I was looking forward to the little brother’s book.
Wide Open by Deborah Coates is on sale for 2.99 at Amazon. I just finished this book and I LOVED IT. Urban fantasy on the South Dakota prairie (rural fantasy?), with the start of a romance. Hallie died for 7 minutes while serving in Afghanistan and can now see ghosts, including the ghost of her sister.
I got Deliver Me awhile ago and honestly thought it was awful. I could not finish it and that happens to me very rarely. I just thought the writing was really weak and the characters were cheesy and poorly developed. I know it’s only 99 cents but I thought I would share my thoughts.
@Alaina – I have to second your opinion of Deliver Me. I was about to go dig it out of the archives of my kindle to see how far I got, but I know it wasn’t terribly far. The writing was boring, nothing compelling about the characters. Save your 99 cents for another book on sale.

I immediately glommed The Billionaire Next Door.
1) This book is so much better than I have previously believed this type of Harlequin romance to be – is this atypical for the brand, or what? I found this to be surprisingly well-done in terms of characterization and the trauma backstory of the male character, and not at all the “Blah blah blah he’s a BILLIONAIRE and there are private islands” stuff one might imagine.
2) The heroine is a person who has all her emotional stuff figured out, and she has and holds good boundaries, and she is kind and compassionate but not a martyr, and – and, and, WOW. A book about an adult woman. That’s all.
3) So the hero has two brothers (who I assume were supposed to get their own books), and one is an NFL player, and the oldest one, Mac, is some kind of stern Special Forces fellow, and… embarrassingly, I am now really kind of bummed that I can’t go read his book. (It always bothers me that the military romances out there are generally an excuse for volleyball scenes a la Top Gun, a lot of buff shirtless dudes palling around and talking about the sex shenanigans they’ve been getting up to with their lady from a previous book…. and not anywhere near enough stern, gravelly-voiced men who can grow magnificent beards! Sigh.)
I read the Jessica Bird categories when they came out and they were above average as were her stand only titles.

I read Billionaire Next Door last night and thought the hero was AWFUL, self-centered prick, and yes he has MAJOR ISSUES with trust… don’t see these two lasting. BTW the heroine is a doormat. ugh waste of money.
I’m another one who couldn’t finish “Deliver Me”. I bought it because I get excited about non-white protagonists in books, any books really, but especially romance. I found the writing super clunky and cliched.
I read “Sharing Space” a month ago and loved it, well worth the $4 it’s going for on amazon.
