Book One Reckless Summer Toni Blake

RECOMMENDED: One Reckless Summer by Toni Blake is still $1.99. This is the first book in her Destiny series, which takes place in a small town in Ohio. This is one of the first small town romances, and there is some HOT ACTION up against a tree in the first chapter or two. Don't let the adirondack chair porn cover fool you – there's some steam with a good girl coming home after a humiliating divorce and a former bad boy hiding across the lake for really good reasons.

I talked a lot about my initial misconceptions about this book in my review (B-):

The plotline seemed very, very tempting: he had the hots for her, and she thought he was cute, but that was in high school when they were so far apart socially there may as well have been bodies of water between them. Now they’re even further apart – and can’t stay away from each other. And that’s the charm and power of the book: it’s so not what I expected and I enjoyed it all the more for continually surprising me. I’m grabbing people and saying, 'No, really, it’s in OHIO. And I really liked it!'

The perfect daughter. The perfect prom queen. The perfect wife.

Jenny Tolliver's been the good girl all her life, and it's gotten her nowhere. Now that her marriage has been busted up by her cheating ex, she's decided it's time to regroup and rediscover herself. This summer she's headed back to her hometown of Destiny, Ohio, to the very lakeshore cottage where she grew up, to figure out what life holds in store for her next. She never dreamed the answer would be Mick Brody, Destiny's #1 hellraiser.

He comes from the wrong side of the tracks (or in his case, the lake), and he's landed in hot water more times than he can count. He's exactly the kind of guy Jenny's always kept her distance from . . . but soon the good girl and the bad boy are caught in a raw heat that's out of control.

Too bad Mick's got a secret that threatens to tear them apart and ruin Jenny's perfectly, passionately reckless summer .

Book it Happened One Autumn

RECOMMENDED: It Happened One Autumn is book 2 of the Wallflower Quartet, and is still $3.99. The stories follow a group of four women who are, obviously, wallflowers, and while the romance is a big part of the story (obviously), their friendship makes the series so special. This series is among my favorites of Kleypas' backlist. The heroine in It Happened One Autumn is outspoken, blunt, and can be frustrating for the hero – but I really liked her.

Four young ladies enter London society with one necessary goal: they must use their feminine wit and wiles to find a husband. So they band together, and a daring husband-hunting scheme is born.

It happened at the ball…

Where beautiful but bold Lillian Bowman quickly learned that her independent American ways weren't entirely “the thing.” And the most disapproving of all was insufferable, snobbish, and impossible Marcus, Lord Westcliff, London's most eligible aristocrat.

It happened in the garden…

When Marcus shockingly—and dangerously—swept her into his arms. Lillian was overcome with a consuming passion for a man she didn't even like. Time stood still; it was as if no one else existed…thank goodness they weren't caught very nearly in the act!

It happened one autumn…

Marcus was a man in charge of his own emotions, a bedrock of stability. But with Lillian, every touch was exquisite torture, every kiss an enticement for more. Yet how could he consider taking a woman so blatantly unsuitable…as his bride?

Book Sisters in Love

Sisters in Love by Melissa Foster is free everywhere you want to be right now. Free, cheezy bread, free! This is part of the Snow Sisters series (hence: WINTER!) and has a 3.7 star average on GR. Reviews indicate this is a mix of romance, women's fiction, and family saga. The heroine is a therapist who has always made the safest choices, and the hero is a rakish athlete who realizes he needs to change his ways immediately.

Danica Snow has always been the smart, practical, and appropriate sister. As a therapist, she prides herself on making reasonable, conservative choices, even if a bit boring, and as part of the Big Sister Program, she has little time for anything more in her life.

Blake Carter is a player. He never gets bored of conquering women, and with his sexy good looks and successful lifestyle, he has no trouble finding willing participants. When his friend and business partner dies in a tragic accident, he suddenly, desperately, wants to change his ways. The problem is, he doesn't know how to stop doing what he does best.

When Blake walks into Danica's office, the attraction between them is white hot, but Danica isn't the type to give into the heat and risk her career. Danica's desire sets her on a path of self-discovery, where she begins to question every decision she's ever made.

Just this once, Danica wants to indulge in the pleasures of life she's been so willingly ignoring, but with her Little Sister in turmoil and her biological sister's promiscuousness weighing heavily on her heart, she isn't sure it's the right time to set her desires free.

Book Long Simmering Spring

Long Simmering Spring by Elisabeth Barrett is $2.99. This is a contemporary romance with nipples. Sorry – with a 4+ star average on GoodNipples. GoodREADS, excuse me. The hero is a former soldier and the sheriff of Star Harbor who suffers from PTSD and survivor's guilt, and the heroine is a doctor who had a nipple – a CRUSH on him in grade school.

Julie Kensington grew up in the same small town as the Grayson brothers and remembers when the boys were nothing but trouble. As teenagers, Cole's rugged sex appeal set Julie's heart ablaze, but she did her best to ignore it.

Now a grown woman with a medical degree, Julie still can't resist her searing attraction to the roughest, toughest Grayson. He's ex-military, tormented, and sexier than ever, but are his wounds too deep to be healed by her loving, gentle touch?

Even back in high school, straight-arrow Julie had a way of making Cole think twice about his bad-boy lifestyle. When Julie decides she's finally ready to embrace her wild side, Cole knows he is just the man to show her the way, unleashing years of pent-up desire.

Neither of them counted on falling in love, but when Cole's demons threaten to derail their relationship, it's up to Julie to show him that together, they can overcome the past . . . and build a future.

GoodNipple!!  Sarah, you made my day.  Thanks for the snark.

  2. Lady Westcliff says:

Confession time: I am in love with Marcus Marsden, Lord Westcliff, the hero of It happened One Autumn. He’s one of the best fleshed out characters in Romancelandia and I suspect Ms Kleypas has a big crush on him too. He appears in every book of the wallflower series and also in the first book of the Hathaways series as well, and not only as filler. He always plays a key role in the development of the plot and he is consistenly fair, supportive and loyal to the people he loves. He is of average height and his looks are not particularly handsome. Oh Marcus! SIGH… Where can I share my feelings for you without fear of a straightjacket coming my way? Only here, in the pink palace of romance.

  3. Pheebers says:

I’m a huge Westcliff fan too.  He’s just so capable and I feel as if he could solve any problem.

Are there any romance fans who haven’t read the Wallflowers series?  If so I’m jealous that they can experience it for the first time.

  4. Heather S says:

I read the last one – “Devil In Winter” was it? – a few years ago. I don’t recall that it made much of an impression, actually. I bought the rest of the books, too, but never read them. Methinks it’s time to catch up! 🙂

  5. Kelly S says:

    @pheebers Me! I haven’t read them yet.

  6. Pheebers says:

Devil in Winter is actually the third, and possibly my all-time favorite comfort read. The last one is Scandal in Spring and is the most forgettable, in my opinion…but still a decent read.

  7. Amanda says:

I adore The Wallflowers series and It Happened One Autumn is probably my favorite out of all of them.
