Announcing the RITA Reader Challenge 2014!

A gold dude holding a gold starIt’s that time of year again! The RITA® Reader Challenge.

This year, you’ll notice the RITA awards look a little bit different, as in the buttload of historicals, contemporaries, and paranormal romances. So we figured we’d change up the Reader Challenge a little bit to make the process less chaotic and more fun for the SBTB community!

Basics:

There are 9 different reading deadlines, spanning every ten days. For example, the first reading deadline consists of the Best First Book, Erotica, and Inspirational categories.

We’re limiting the reviews to 2-3 per book to help keep from overflooding the site. These reviews will be posted throughout the week, leading up to the next deadline.

You can sign up for more than one book, though of course, sharing is caring!

Rules:

You can sign up here for your book!

In the sign-up column, simply list the name you want to be known as when posting the review. Please be respectful of those who’ve signed up before you.

Remember, 2-3 reviewers per book!

The deadline is when readers should submit their reviews. Send them to: amanda@smartbitchestrashybooks.com

Reviews will be proofread before posting. If there are any serious changes or clarifications, we’ll let you know! (But I doubt that’ll happen because everyone is AH-MAH-ZING!)

Any questions, feel free to email Sarah or Amanda!

    I’m getting an error message on the link to the signup. Could it be that you have both http and https in your link? The warning suggests there is a spelling error somewhere in the link.

  2. SB Sarah says:

    @Virginia:

    OOPS. Thank you. That was exactly the problem. Sorry about that! My bad.

  3. Jamarleo says:

    Yay. ” For the first time in forever, I signed up before all were taken…”  (Imagine me spinning around in a ball gown amongst the castle.)

  4. Emily says:

    On the best first book, there seem to be two deadlines since each of those books are also nominated for something else. Considering the first deadline is rather soon, does that mean reviews for those books can submitted into the category were they also nominated, considering those people were rather short changed anyway? Why not put novella as the second deadline since this books are logically shorter?( Instead, the deadline for the review of for example, 539 page Firebird is due a head of the novellas. But then again, no doubt somebody has already read it and will only have to write a review. )

    But in general I am disappointed in the selection, particularly with the inspirational category.

    I signed up for a novella 🙂
    This is going to be fun!

    @Emily:

    There are only two books that fall into two “separate deadlines.” My suggestion is those reviewing it for the Contemporary date is to review it as a contemporary novel. If they choose to review it for the Best First Book deadline, then I suggest reviewing or grading it on the merit of how well it does or doesn’t do as a first book.

    I set up the novellas in the middle as a bit of a palate cleanser before we start part two of the larger categories. While I understand that long books should have a longer lead time, a reviewer doesn’t have to read the book in ten days. If they sign up for it, they have a little over a month to read it and get the review in, which I don’t think is too stressful on the casual reader.

    Got mine in, and one is a book I actually own, but have been putting off in favor of the never ending library reserve books. Now I must read it,  read it again and maybe a third time in order to be fully immersed for the review. Good times.

    And honestly, as usual there are only a few of the names I expect to see on an award list. Oh, well, makes for a more fun review, because more than one is bound to be a clunker. Also as usual.

  8. Phyllis Laatsch says:

    Signed up for a few! I hope the library gets me the first one ASAP or I’m going to miss the May 1st deadline!

    And why doesn’t Smart Bitches come through on feedly anymore?

  9. Darbi Bradley says:

    Signed up for two books, looking forward to it!
