This request comes from Naughty K, who read a book and has described it marvelously. I thought I knew this one, but when I went to look it up, too many details were off for me to be right. But I'm certain you will know this one.
Firstly I would like to say that I just found your site and it's awesome and one of the best sites I've come across! THANK YOU so much. Anyway… HaBO?
This book is probably published in the early 2000s. I had just got into a huge romance binge after finding out I love reading romance. It's paranormal romance, the plot is pretty much based on greek mythology. The MC guy is from ancient Greece, I think he's a demi-God. I think he's a son of Aphrodite so he gets all the ladies and he's uber handsome.
He gets falsely accused for seducing and sleeping with a temple maiden (who are suppose to be virgins) and the maiden is from a temple of a God that really doesn't like the MC guy. He gets cursed into a book, if the book is opened/read by a woman he springs out and does her bidding (ie. pleasures her until time is up and he goes back into the book) and he can't never find satisfaction while giving pleasure to the ladies.
Come back to the present day, MC lady is at a bookstore, the store owner or her friend (I forget who) convinces her to buy this book, she really doesn't want to but buys it anyway. MC guy springs out, thinks that he's going to do the routine wam-bam-thank-you-ma'am but MC lady is like no thanks. She instead gives him clothes, takes him around the town and gives him a life/view of the world beyond the bedroom.
(my memory here is a bit fuzzy) The way to break the curse is that the woman has to be from a certain family, with a certain family last name (I think it was Scottish or Irish… really can't remember well) and they have to have sex but he's got to stay inside of her for like 12hrs or something (his penis gotta spend the night inside her vagina) and he's gotta release inside of her…
Anyway that's the most I can remember. In the modern day, Aphrodite is a relationship/love/couple therapist and Cupid is a bikey. I think it ends with MC guy in the hospital or something, Aphrodite pulls some strings so he's a citizen of the modern world, she makes him a PHD in Ancient Greece or something like that…
I'm almost certain I knew this – but every time I think I've remembered it, I'm wrong. GAH. Do you know this book? Help a bitch out!

It’s really very fantastic, one of my personal top ten. Early Kenyon before all her books were carbon copies of one another.

Yes, definitely Fantasy Lover. One of my absolute fave fish-out-of-water stories. Sweet and sad and very, very funny at times.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I devoured the first books. Some of them were so funny and heartbreaking at the same time! My favorite is still Seize the Night, with Valerius and Tabitha. Talk about an odd couple! I left off after that one, although I’ll have to pick up Nick’s story (is it out at all?) some day. I have Acheron, but haven’t read it yet, though he’s always been another favorite character of mine from the series.
Okay this was already answered many times over, but it’s the first HABO book that I’ve known! So I had to comment anyway….

Also one of the few HaBOs that I actually knew. I agree with those who said Kenyon’s early books were much better than now. I find myself skimming a lot. And, for FallenProfessor who hasn’t read Acheron, be prepared for A LOT of awfulness, by which I mean bad, bad, BAD stuff that Acheron has to go through. I came very close to not finishing because it was very painful and I read romance for enjoyment (not an angst-lover like some). I think Kenyon’s books are getting more into awful things happening to people over and over again and I’m not sure why. I read Paradise City and enjoyed the adventure but then I read the do-over (Born of something) and I did not like it because the bad stuff was ramped way up.
And I was looking forward to Nick’s books but stopped after the second one as I didn’t like where it was going. I preferred Nick when he was happy-go-lucky. Perhaps I’m just shallow but there’s enough real bad stuff I can’t escape that I don’t want to add it purposely to my life.

Yeah, that’s why I’ve been putting it off. Seize the Night had already gone down a very dark path, although I really enjoyed it. We do get glimpses of Acheron’s awful past/present once in a while in other books from the series, but I’m fearing a total angst-and-torture-fest with this one. I’ll wait until all the snow is gone and the flowers are in bloom, so I have a nice contrast outside my window while I’m reading!
This is DEFINITELY Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon! Julian was my introduction to the Dark Hunter series.
