Book Morganville vampires book 1 Glass HousesGlass Houses by Rachel Caine, book 1 of the Morganville Vampires series, is today's Audible Daily Deal at $2.95. This is YA paranormal urban fantasy (obviously) set in Texas, but many of the reviews are from readers of different age groups, all proclaiming the books and the series as kickass.

This is an unabridged audio recording running more than 8.5 hours, and is narrated by Cynthia Holloway.

College freshman Claire Danvers has had enough of her nightmarish dorm situation, where the popular girls never let her forget just where she ranks in the school's social scene: somewhere less than zero.

When Claire heads off-campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don't show many signs of life.

But they'll have Claire's back when the town's deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood.

Book The World to Come

The World to Come by Dara Horn is $1.99 right now digitally. The story is a mix of magical realism, Jewish folklore, mystery, heist and a bunch of other stuff, and the book has piles of glowing reviews. I'm super curious about this book – have you read it?

A million-dollar painting by Marc Chagall is stolen from a museum. The unlikely thief is Benjamin Ziskind, a thirty-year-old quiz-show writer. As Benjamin and his twin sister try to evade the police, they find themselves recalling their dead parents—the father who lost a leg in Vietnam, the mother who created children's books—and their stories about trust, loss, and betrayal.

What is true, what is fake, what does it mean? Eighty years before the theft, these questions haunted Chagall and the enigmatic Yiddish fabulist Der Nister (“The Hidden One”), teachers at a school for Jewish orphans. Both the painting and the questions will travel through time to shape the Ziskinds' futures.

With astonishing grace and simplicity, Dara Horn interweaves a real art heist, history, biography, theology, and Yiddish literature. Richly satisfying, utterly unique, her novel opens the door to “the world to come”—not life after death, but the world we create through our actions right now. Reading group guide included.

Kiss of Steel - Steampunk Kiss of Steel by Bec McMaster is $1.99 right now. This is steampunk romance, and the first in the Steampunk London series. Every time this book goes on sale (which it does pretty regularly), readers comment that they loved it and were so glad they bought it on sale.

When Nowhere is Safe

Most people avoid the dreaded Whitecapel district. For Honoria Todd, it's the last safe haven. But at what price? Blade is known as the master of the rookeries—no one dares cross him.

It's been said he faced down the Echelon's army single–handedly, that ever since being infected by the blood–craving he's been quicker, stronger, and almost immortal.

When Honoria shows up at his door, his tenuous control comes close to snapping. She's so…innocent. He doesn't see her backbone of steel—or that she could be the very salvation he's been seeking.

Book Heart of Iron - woman in corset top hat and carrying parasol embraced by dude probably wearing goggles because it is steampunk

Heart of Iron is $3.99. This is book 2 in Bec McMaster's London Steampunk series. The first book, Kiss of Steel, has been on sale multiple times, and it's on sale again for $1.99, but you may already own it. This series is much praised by fans of the genre because it blends familiar paranormal elements with intense emotion and layered worldbuilding. Now you can get books 1 and 2 for about $6 total – nice!

In Victorian London, if you’re not a blue blood of the Echelon then you’re nothing at all. The Great Houses rule the city with an iron fist, imposing their strict ‘blood taxes’ on the nation, and the Queen is merely a puppet on a string…

Lena Todd makes the perfect spy. Nobody suspects the flirtatious debutante could be a sympathizer for the humanist movement haunting London’s vicious blue blood elite. Not even the ruthless Will Carver, the one man she can’t twist around her little finger, and the one man whose kiss she can’t forget…

Stricken with the loupe and considered little more than a slave-without-a-collar to the blue bloods, Will wants nothing to do with the Echelon or the dangerous beauty who drives him to the very edge of control. But when he finds a coded letter on Lena—a code that matches one he saw on a fire-bombing suspect—he realizes she’s in trouble. To protect her, he must seduce the truth from her.

With the humanists looking to start a war with the Echelon, Lena and Will must race against time—and an automaton army—to stop the humanist plot before it’s too late. But as they fight to save a city on the brink of revolution, the greatest danger might just be to their hearts.

Book Close up of manchest

The Mane Event by Shelley Laurenston is $.99 at most vendors. This is book 1 in her Pride series, and is a terrific, campy blend of ferocious women, shape shifters, alpha males, and paranormal fun. This book is also two stories in one. I really like Laurenston's voice, and find her shifter stories to be a great time when I read them. They're very sexy, with a lot of naked time, and a silly sense of humor.

One of the hottest new voices in paranormal romance, Shelly Laurenston knows how to do it all, delivering tales that are wickedly funny, action-packed, and scorch-your-fingers sexy. With The Mane Event, she proves just how delicious love can be once you unleash your inner beast…

Christmas Pride

How come all the good-looking ones are insane?
That's what runs through NYPD cop Desiree “Dez” MacDermot's mind the minute she hooks up again with her childhood buddy, Mace Llewellyn. It isn't just the way he stares at her with those too-sexy gold eyes―as if he could devour her on the spot. Or the six-four, built-like-a-Navy Seal bod-o-death. It isn't even that he sniffs her neck and purrs, making her entire body tingle. It's more about that disconcerting, shifting-from-man-to-lion thing that unhinges her…and makes her want more.

Mace likes making Dez crazy. In fact, he likes her any way he can get her―in bed, on the desk, here, now, again. Together, they'd always been trouble, but Dez has no idea just how good trouble can feel…

Shaw's Tail

Brendon Shaw, hotel owner and lion shifter, has seen better days. He's been beaten, had a gun to the back of his head, and had to be rescued by a Pack of shape-shifting wolves. He didn't think he'd survive the night, much less find the woman of his dreams. And he never thought the woman of his dreams would have a Tennessee accent and wear cowboy boots. Once he sets his sights on her, the predator in him is ready to pounce and never let go.

Ronnie Lee Reed is ready to change her life, and New York City is the place where any girl―even one who runs with a Pack―can redefine herself. First order of business: find a mate, settle down, and stop using men for sex. Even big, gorgeous, lion-shifting, oh-my-what-big-um-paws-you-have men. Then again…

  1. Dora says:

I liked the Mane Event, but I felt like it didn’t need the murder subplot… largely because the book completely ignored it for 75% at the end of its length. Then at the end it’s suddenly OH CRAP BETTER WRAP THIS UP. The characters were great, but it felt like the romance would have been better without attempting to shoehorn in all the underdeveloped cop stuff.

  2. Andrea says:

I liked the McMaster books! Just finishing up the second one now and I look forward to the next.

And I really like the Laurenston books. They can be very uneven but are still fun roller coaster rides of wack-a-doo. My favourite so far is the last one.

  3. TheMistWalking says:

I really like Laurenston’s Pride series. They’re fun, OTP PNR.  My favorite is probably Beast Behaving Badly. (Bo is surly and has some serious OCD issues—but I love his crazy bear-lion hybrid self.)
