Books on Sale: Historicals of All Sorts

Alas, the Eloisa James deal that had appeared here seems to no longer be valid. I'm sorry. I did notice this at Amazon, however: If you buy a new print edition of this book (or purchased one in the past), you can buy the Kindle edition for only $1.99 (Save 58%). Print edition purchase must be sold by Amazon. So check your account – you may have the opportunity to buy it for $1.99.

I'm sorry about that.

Book A Duke of Her Own Lorraine Heath

Is there a Duke Quota? Apparently not – because this is a different book with different dukes and a different her, and it's also $1.99 or $3.99 depending on if you're Amazon. No word on whether Amazon has any dukes for your own, but if they do, they'll be on the porch in 2 days, if you're a Prime member. Are Dukes prime? YES. ALL DUKES ARE PRIME.

Anyway. A Duke of Her Own is by Lorraine Heath, who is a wonderful historical romance writer.

Lady Louisa longs to marry for passion and love — but will she find happiness in the arms of the duke?

Lady Louisa Wentworth knows she will never marry well–her family's impoverished estate has ensured as much. Resigned to spinsterhood, the proud beauty has agreed to chaperone a young American heiress who seeks a titled husband through the turbulent waters of London society.

The dashing Duke of Hawkhurst must marry wealth for the sake of his family. This well-heeled young American, Miss Jenny Rose, would do quite nicely. But the girl's infuriating chaperone seems determined to keep them apart. And worse still, Hawk finds himself far more attracted to the intoxicating Lady Louisa than to her innocent charge!

A romantic subterfuge is called for–as desperate Hawk plots to draw the heiress into a compromising position, making marriage a necessity. But when it's lovely Louisa instead who falls into his sensuous web, this game of hearts takes a passionate and most unexpected turn.

Book How to Marry a Duke. He's nuzzling her carotid artery as usual

How to Marry a Duke by Vicky Dreiling is .99c right now. This is a historical romance that features a Regency version of The Bachelor so if that would irk you, this might not be for you. The book has many happy readers in the reviews online, however, who liked that the heroine, the matchmaker hired by the duke, is short and curvy.

Tristan, the Duke of Shelbourne is a man with a mission: find a wife he can tolerate as long as they both shall live. Love is not necessary–nor desired. But how to choose among a dizzying array of wealthy-yet-witless candidates? Hire London's infamously prim and proper matchmaker. Then pretend she's not the most captivating woman he's ever met…

Helping a devilish Duke create a contest to pick his perfect mate is the kind of challenge Tessa Mansfield relishes. Her methods may be scandalous, but she's determined to find the notorious bachelor more than a wife–she'll bring him true love. Yet when Tessa watches the women vie for the Duke's affections, she longs to win his heart herself.

And after a stolen kiss confirms Tristan's desire, Tessa knows she has broken a matchmaker's number one rule: never fall in love with the groom.

Book Heiress Without a Cause

Heiress Without a Cause is free right now at Amazon and .99c at other vendors. This is a Scottish historical, book 3 of a series, with a heroine who is a master at hiding in plain sight, and a hero who needs a chaperone for his sisters.

This one Amazon review made me snort: Good story overshadowed by pages of sex! If you are looking for a clean regency romance – this is not it! Ok, then!

One title to change his life…

A disgraced son with a dark reputation, William “Ferguson” Avenel is content to live in exile – until his father dies in the scandal of the Season. With rumors of insanity swirling around them, his sisters desperately need a chaperone. Ferguson thinks he's found the most proper woman in England – and he won't ruin her, even if he secretly desires the passionate woman trapped beneath a spinster's cap.

One chance to break the rules…

Lady Madeleine Vaillant can't face her blighted future without making one glorious memory for herself. In disguise, on a London stage, she finds all the adoration she never felt from the ton. But when she's nearly recognized, she will do anything to hide her identity – even setting up her actress persona as Ferguson's mistress. She'll take the pleasure he offers, but Madeleine won't lose her heart in the bargain.

One season to fall in love…

Every stolen kiss could lead to discovery, and Ferguson's old enemies are determined to ruin them both. But as their dangerous passion ignites their hearts and threatens their futures, how can an heiress who dreams of freedom deny the duke who demands her love?

Book Grave Mercy

Grave Mercy is $1.99 right now. This is a YA Fantasy novel that was nominated for a RITA in 2012. Michelle wrote in her RITA Reader Challenge Review:

The biggest reason I picked up Grave Mercy originally was because of the assassin nuns. Because come on, how awesome does “assassin nuns” sound?

Then I saw it was first-person present tense, and almost held back from getting it. That particular style has been notoriously difficult for me to get into in the past, and I've been getting burnt out on it.

However, I went ahead and got the book anyway, and I'm thrilled I did. LaFevers uses language so well that I sank immediately into her style without the 5-10 pages of struggle that normally accompanies reading present tense.

Here, she's created a fantastic medieval world of gods, saints, political intrigue, and romance that swept me away completely.

And yes, the assassin nuns were pretty much as great as they sounded.

Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?

Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.

Ismae’s most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make.

For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

I have to comment on how wonderful Grave Mercy is.  It was simply the best book I read in 2012, and I read over 200 books that year, so that should tell you something.  However, a warning, it made me ugly cry, and I don’t do that very often.

Just downloaded Heiress Without a Cause to the Kindle. I could use a naughty Regency about now. Really enjoyed A Duke of her Own and had bought it when it first came out.

  3. Nicole says:

A Duke of Her Own isn’t coming up as being less than $4.74 at any of the stores you linked to. I’ll keep checking throughout the day.

  4. Qualisign says:

“Heiress without a cause” is currently free at Amazon. Now that’s a sale that makes any caveats fade… Free sex?!

  5. denise says:

    thanks for the freebie

  6. Vasha says:

I started “Grave Mercy” and quickly gave up on it because the guy doomed to be Ismae’s love interest is introduced in the most asshattish manner. See, for her very first assassination mission, she’s sent to do something that messes up an elaborate scheme of love-interest-guy’s, so he gets mad at her. Then there’s a meeting with Ismae’s superiors, who LIG is civil to, while continuing to glower and sneer at Ismae. Okay, so he thinks it’s appropriate to take out his temper on the most junior person in the room? Hopefully he’s going to experience some character development and realize what’s wrong with that; but I wasn’t motivated to stick around for it—I truly don’t appreciate when the heroine of the story is plotted into an obligatory romance with a jerk.

As usual checked the offers on Amazon UK expecting to find that the titles are not on offer in the UK. Imagine my surprise to find Heiress Without a Cause currently free!
