Several days ago, you posted a Books on Sale link for Crafting with Cat Hair.
I was immediately interested and also very concerned about what this says about me!
Anyway, I checked the book out from the library and started to brush my two cats, Biggie and Weezie. I made the first project which was the finger puppet shown on the cover.
I've attached two pictures so you can see the puppet and also Biggie who was very interested and basically bugged me the entire time I was making this thing. The color is a bit ugly because I had to combine their fur to get enough to make this.
I hope some other readers sent you pics also. It makes me laugh to look at the puppet and know it is cat fur. It's just such a ridiculous thing.

I know that you know that I know that there are more of you out there crafting with cat hair. BRING ON THE PICS. I want to see them! I can't brush my own cats, as they're all elderly and also would kill me in my sleep, but hey, if you have cat hair crafts, it's only fair that Eileen's be the start of a beautiful, beautiful gallery.
We romance readers may not all be women with lots of cats and an equal amount of crafting skills, but when we are, we are awesome.
@ Eileen- Bravo! But now I want to see Weezie. It’s only fair, since Weezie contributed fur for the finger puppet as well. I had wondered how a pet cat would react to its person’s fussing about with its sheddings. Mine usually try to eat the freed hair as they’re brushed. I fear that any fur creation around here would quickly vanish and then, inevitably, reappear as a common hair ball.
Of course I had to check and see if there was a similar book for dog hair, and yes, there is! I’m not the crafty type, but I do own a Golden Retriever, and after I brush her, I could swear enough hair comes off to make a whole ‘nother dog.
@Sarah: You can brush your elderly cats. Food bribery. Worked like a charm on our 13-year-old Zarf, who’d sell his soul for turkey.
I’m vacillating between “that looks cute” and “that’s creepy.”
My two wenches would def eat whatever I made…especially the calico. But this cracks me up in a cute AND creepy way (which kind of sums up felines, doesn’t it?).
Sarah – Thanks for posting my pictures! I love that Biggie has gotten her 15 minutes of internet fame today.
Mzcue – Weezie is feeling jealous that she wasn’t in the picture – LOL. I was thinking of making another one with more of her fur (she’s a tabby with lots of red fur).
I met a woman from Montana who makes knit goods from dog fur. I owned a Malamute at the time and offered to send her as much as she could handle. Do you have any idea how much a Malamute sheds in the summer? Holy crap!
I am ever so disappointed that my local library does not have this book! I do think this is creepy/cool and am so excited to see someone was able to replicate a project, so thank you Eileen for sharing. That totally made my day!
This book was on a display in the library that I pass on my way to the cafe. “No,” says I on my way for coffee, “…that can’t be. I need coffee.” On my way back to the workroom I was staring so hard at that book I almost walked into a desk. Who knew?
I have more cats—and shed cat fur—than it’s good for me, that’s for sure. Now I want to make this…and wonder what other creepy/cool projects are in that book.
Eventually my curiosity demanded some answers. Amazon’s “Look Inside” feature reveals that in addition to the finger puppet, the book offers instructions for nine other projects. Included are book covers, cat portraits, tote bags, coin purses, knick-knack boxes, pin cushions (!), badges, mittens//gloves, and hats and scarves.
There’s also a warning that cat fur projects crafts are not recommended for people with allergies. Hmmmm. A tempting form of revenge, but probably too much work for a cat-like person such as me.
And thus begins another day of “Safety Dance” playing in my head…this time with cats!
Bwah-ha-ha-ha ha-ha-ha-ha… OMG. I can’t stop laughing!!
This is almost enough to make me get a cat. That and my MIL freaks out whenever she sees one..

I own the paperback and it is so neat. I was already a wet wool felter, so this was fun!
I bought this book (in hard copy) a while ago for my cat-loving, crafting friend. It made me stop in my tracks and laugh out loud in the store.
It’s both so cute and so creepy! But that’s all part of its appeal 😉
