Tantor Audiobooks: 60% Off for Youse Guyse! Yes! You!

While I was at Digital Book World earlier this month, a gentleman from Tantor Audio approached me and asked if the readers of this here website liked audiobooks, specifically (obviously) romance audiobooks. I said yup, some of you most certainly do – and that I'd been listening to more audiobooks each month as I walk the dogs or drive somewhere (I live in Jersey; there's always somewhere to drive to).

So, for the month of February, Tantor wanted to offer you a special selection of romance audiobooks – at 60% off. WOO! You can stock up, or try a new author – or re-experience a book you've already enjoyed by listening to it. Audiobooks are great for discovering new authors, or re-discovering a book you enjoyed by listening to the narration. A great performance by a narrator can reveal more about the story and the characters. I have re-read several of the books in this collection in print several times, but as I listened to the audio, I nearly lost the rest of my day because I wanted to keep listening instead of, you know, doing my work.

All you have to do is use coupon code SBFeb14 at checkout. That code is good for 60% list price for the specific books featured below, and includes all formats (mp3 download, mp3 CD, or Audio CD.

(Also? Dude. The covers are so DIFFERENT.)

Here are the books on sale this month, just for you! And a big thank you to Tantor audio for offering the discount!

Something About You - Julie James

Something About You – Julie James

Narrated by Karen White

Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde and Special Agent Jack Pallas must put their differences aside—and smother the flame of their sizzling-hot sexual tension—as they work together in solving a high-profile murder case.

Narrated by Karen White

I love this book. I love how the heroine is so intelligent and takes absolutely no crap, and I love that the hero doesn't take much crap either. I also think the narration adds a lot to the story – which I've already read at least twice. One thing Karen White does really well is differentiate between what the character is thinking and what the character is saying.

Cara McKenna Unbound - OH MY GOD IT IS JUST ABS I TELL YOU

Unbound – Cara McKenna

Narrated by Lucy Rivers

In Cara McKenna's latest romance novel, a woman sets out to find herself and discovers the darker side of desire. Contains mature themes.

Heh. Mature themes. YOU DON'T SAY.

This is a tough book to narrate, with a surly Scottish hero and a determined American heroine – a heroine with a lot of things she keeps unsaid.  But Lucy Rivers' way of managing the narration makes this a fun story to listen to. Also: it's very hot.

Nalini Singh - Angels' Blood

Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh

Narrated by Justine Eyre

In the first entry in the Guild Hunter series, New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh introduces a world of beauty and bloodlust where angels hold sway over vampires.

Nalini Singh writes books with layers on top of layers, like one of those cakes made of 6,000 crepes that takes about a day and a half to make, and then everyone eats it in less than a half hour. So, cake aside, when you listen to one of Singh's books, as Angie James has said on the DBSA Podcast, you hear different things about the story that perhaps weren't as evident when you read it.

You should definitely listen with cake, though.

Pamela Clare- Extreme Exposure

Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare
Narrated by Kaleo Griffith

Sparks fly when a hardboiled reporter meets a handsome senator, in the first book in a new romantic suspense series by Pamela Clare. Contains mature themes.

Heh heh. “Mature themes” strike again!

Pamela Clare writes amazing romantic suspense – and I say that not being a romantic suspense fan. She's gooood. And her narrator, Kaleo Griffith, adds tension to the story – one that already has plenty. I met Ms. Clare and Mr. Griffith at RWA last year – I happened to talk by them both in the lobby and introduced myself – and Mr. Griffith said he loves recording these books. He thinks they're terrific.

Cecilia Grant - A Lady Awakened - a woman against a green cloth background
A Lady Awakened by Cecilia Grant
Narrated by Susan Ericksen

In the emotionally rich and deeply passionate first book in a new series by Cecilia Grant, a deal with a rumored rogue turns a proper young woman into . . . A Lady Awakened.

I love this book. I love so many things about it. And I love listening to it because different pieces of the story reveal themselves and I get to enjoy it even more than I already have. Have you read this? Get some cake and listen. Seriously. What are you waiting for? You could be making Good Book Noise® RIGHT NOW.

Maya Banks - In Bed with a Highlander

In Bed with the Highlander by Maya Banks
Narrated by Kirsten Potter

In the first book in a new series from New York Times bestselling author Maya Banks, warrior Ewan McCabe dreams only of exacting revenge on his enemy—until he meets beautiful temptress Mairin. Contains mature themes.

Mature themes?! In a Maya Banks novel? THE DEVIL YOU SAY.

This list is replete with Scots. You're welcome!

Maya Banks' In Bed With the Highlander is action and hotness and more action and intrigue, plus did I mention Scots?

Magic Bites - Ilona Andrews
Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews
Narrated by Renée Raudman

Mercenary Kate Daniels cleans up urban problems of a paranormal kind. But her latest prey, a pack of undead warriors, presents her greatest challenge.

I interviewed Renee Raudman for our podcast, and had to find some of her performances after I heard her talk about her career as a narrator. She's as good as all of Ilona Andrews' fans say she is – which is pretty freaking marvelous.

  1. Aislinn says:

*sigh* I’m just getting in to audiobooks and I would totally of have bought all of these. Except they aren’t available to Australians. *grumble*

  2. SB Sarah says:

    @Aislinn:

I am sorry. I wish I had magic geo-override powers sometimes.

  3. Tantor Guy says:

@Aislinn email me for customer service at ahoving @ tantor.com and i will try to work some magic 😉

  4. Brigid says:

I’ve been listening to the Kate Daniels audiobooks while I exercise.  Renee Raudman does such an excellent job of bring Kate to live. She’s amazingly talented. I bought Angel’s Blood by Nalini Singh. I’ve never listened to a romance on audio, so I thought I’d try this one since its on sale. I’ve heard narrator is really talented as well.

  5. Jen says:

OK, I’m in! I’m trying to get more into audio books, though so far they’re really not my preferred method for reading. But I’m going to use this chance to give them another try. Thanks for the offer!

  6. I’d love to experience Julie James and Pamela Clare in audio. (I think it’s time I start nagging Audible about nagging Tantor about getting world rights to audiobooks I want. I’ve been holding off because I already have a boatload of audiobooks to listen to and a wishlist that’s nearing 200, so the fact that I can’t have everything I want right now is just a small irritation.)

I highly recommend the Nalini Singh Guild Hunter books in audio. I think I listened to Angel’s Blood 3 times last year. It’s that awesome an experience!

  7. laj says:

The Kate Daniels series is terrific. Renee does a fantastic job….she is Kate Daniels.
To bad Tantor lost the Andrews’ work…..I really dislike Recorded Books.

Justine Eyre does an excellent job narrating the Elena Devereau series, I wish she did the Psy/Changling too.

  8. @laj I agree with the Recorded Books dislike. Too much extraneous blather.

  9. MikiS says:

I like Tantor for audiobooks.  They off DRM-free MP3 downloads, seem to have a good mix of romance, and have great sales sometimes.

But there are few downsides – the biggest is that I almost never can get a whole series in MP3 download.  And they’ll have an odd mix – books 1, 6, 8, 9, and 12 or something like that.  They also don’t always finish with a series.  I bought all the Devon Monk books…and then they just stopped at book 7.  So frustrating.

I still shop there, but I’ve learned not to count on finding what I want when I go to look to see what’s newly available.

  10. Lindsay says:

Wow, what a good deal—you convinced me, I’m taking the leap! I’ve only listened to two audiobooks in full, both on 11+ hour road trips, and we have two more coming up this year. I’ve definitely been wanting to try more audiobooks, and I’m excited to see if I do pick more up listening vs reading! The suggestion to have them on while doing stuff around the house sounds great. Thank you!

  11. @moi #6: Dammit, I meant Angels’ Blood. I swear I have to check the apostrophe every time I write that title!

  12. Alexisa N says:

Audiobooks are great. You just need to find the right narrator. Some of my favorite books have narrators I can’t stand listening to. Then there are some books that I only “read” because I like the narration. I do recommend trying your local library’s digital orverdrive on line. So far that I seen every state has access and it free. Audiobook (mp3 & WMA) and eBooks.

  13. Jill-Marie says:

Yeah … this is going to cost me. Happy sigh. But question: I am listening to more (and more) audiobooks on my Samsung Galaxy Note II, which I download through Audible (or Amazon) through the Kindle app on my phone. Any idea which of these formats from Tantor would work on the phone? Thanks! And thanks, Tantor, for the discount!!

  14. Tantor Guy says:

@Jill-Marie: Our IT dept advises that you “can download our MP3 files and play them with whatever MP3 player you have installed on your Galaxy. Or you can download our files with a PC, sync them with iTunes, and then play them via the Audible app.” Please email me at ahoving @ tantor.com if you need more help.

  15. Jill-Marie says:

Thanks so much @Tantor Guy! I will give it a try and if I encounter issues I can’t figure out, I’ll be in touch. 🙂
