This HaBO comes from Misty, and, wow, you guys, this book sounds EPIC. Like a slow cooker full of wtfery, omg, and DUDE all mixed up and cooked on low for 12 hours.
It's a romance novel from the 90's. I seem to remember it having a white cover.
A boy and girl are best friends in childhood. They get older and one night go skinny dipping. The boys father beats him senseless and sends him off to military school.
He comes home with a limp from the childhood trauma. He ends up sleeping with the girl one drunken rainy night but thinks it was her slutty sister to this day.
She has a child that he thinks is his once he finds out they slept together but turns out to be the slutty sister was raped by her uncle or something?
The girl thinks he's in love with her sister yet later they have a steamy pantyhose ripping sex scene where the sister catches them. Also something about the girl seems to have inherited everything from the boys father. I
'm a little confused on the details but that about sums it up. Been looking for author or title for 10+ years, please help!
PANTY. HOSE. RIPPING. Now THAT sounds like an under-used sex scene element! Do you recognize this book?
I never know what any of these books are, but these lurid descriptions ARE. THE. BEST.
Make this a historical and I would have called it a “Shirley Busbee”.
Maybe… Linda Howard’s Shades of Twilight?
This kinda sorta reminds me of “Her Secret, His Child” by Paula Detmer Riggs. That one’s got rape, mistaken idea, pregnancy, and a man with a limp, too, but the cover’s wrong and the childhood best friends angle is missing. Damn, I’m not sure.
I have no idea what the book is, but it does ring a bell. I’m thinking Linda Howard as well, Shades of Twilight.
Oooh, that sounds familiar. In fact, it sounds like many of the crazy awesome that I read as a teenager in the early 90s.
If it is that Linda Howard one, I remember the heroine having a fantastic name. Weren’t they cousins??
It’s absolutely not Shades of Twilight.
It sounds familiar, but for the life of me I can’t remember title or author though.
See I feel like it’s a mash-up of Shades of Twilight and After the Night – both by Linda Howard. Except the even then there are some serious differences ….
But I have to admit I would totally read this. Really hope someone is able to figure it out.
“If I’d known you were a virgin, I would have taken more time.”
“If I’d known you had more time, I’d have taken off my pantyhose.”
Now that you mention it, they could have very well been cousins not sisters. Unique names yes, such a good story line. I wish I could remember. I looked into Linda Howard and it seems like it could’ve been written by her but I have yet to find a synopsis that fits.
