Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie is $3.99 right now. This is a re-imagined The Turning of the Screw, and I read it when it came out. In my review, I gave it a C because the more I thought about it, the more certain things really didn't work for me, but that said, if I go near the book and read a page, I'm in for at least 5 chapters. The writing is seriously sticky and absorbing, and the chemistry between the characters is pretty incredible.
Andie Miller is ready to move on in life. She wants to marry her fiancé and leave behind everything in her past, especially her ex-husband, North Archer. But when Andie tries to gain closure with him, he asks one final favor of her before they go their separate ways forever. A very distant cousin of his has died and left North as the guardian of two orphans who have driven out three nannies already, and things are getting worse. He needs a very special person to take care of the situation and he knows Andie can handle anything.
When Andie meets the two children she quickly realizes things are much worse than she feared. The place is a mess, the children, Carter and Alice, aren't your average delinquents, and the creepy old house where they live is being run by the worst housekeeper since Mrs. Danvers. What's worse, Andie's fiancé thinks this is all a plan by North to get Andie back, and he may be right. Andie's dreams have been haunted by North since she arrived at the old house. Aww Maybe This Time is the first book I ever reviewed for Smart Bitches! I won a copy in the contest and the catch was that if you won, you have to write a review. I was so excited I worked on that review for a week!
I find I like the book better on second readings because this first time I read it I expected more of a straight-forward romance, while actually the romance is the weakest part of the book. Same experience with Wild Ride.

I lent ‘Seduce Me at Sunrise’, by Lisa Kleypas to a friend who isn’t normally into romances, and she enjoyed it a lot. I found the other four Hathaway novels at the used bookstore, and lent them to her for now while I get caught up on the other books on my TBR list. Something tells me I’ll have a hard time getting them back! 😉
Ok, I’m going to warn folks that Mr. Harry Rutledge is the only hero I’ve wanted to murder with my bare hands in the last few years. Even though I knew the book had a HEA, I kept hoping Harry would die. Alas, wasn’t to be.
