Books on Sale: Linda Howard and Rebecca Zanetti suspense, plus Guernsey Comfort Reading

Book Cry No More - Linda Howard

Cry No More by Linda Howard is $1.99. If you like romantic suspense, alpha heroes with more than their fair share of charm, and twisty plots, you should absolutely grab this immediately. Linda Howard is one of the great names in romantic suspense, and in heroes. They aren't my crack, alas, but they are the swoon-and-sigh-worthy crack of many people I know.

Fueled by an obsession to fill the void in other people’s lives, Milla Edge finds lost children—all the while trying to outrun the brutal emotions stemming from a tragedy in her past.

Traveling to a small village in Mexico on a reliable tip, Milla begins to uncover the dire fate of countless children who have disappeared in the labyrinth of a sinister baby-smuggling ring.

The key to nailing down the organization may rest with an elusive one-eyed man. As Milla’s search for him intensifies, the mission becomes more treacherous.

For the ring is part of something far larger and more dangerous, reaching the highest echelons of power. Racing into peril, Milla suddenly finds herself the hunted—in the crosshairs of an invisible, lethal assassin who aims to silence her permanently.

Book The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

RECOMMENDED: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows is $1.99 today only. I was introduced to the idea of having a “grief books” list by the late Kate Duffy, who used to send this book and others to people who were grieving, because it's a very soothing and transporting story. It takes people away from where they are at that moment. So this book, along with a few others, are now part of my “grief books” list which I use to send books to my friends after they've lost a loved one. This is a lovely and beautiful story told in letters (I love epistolary books) about the people in Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands, and their experiences during WWII when the Nazis invaded. This price is probably for a limited time and is Amazon only, but if you're curious, grab it. I hope you enjoy it.

“ I wonder how the book got to Guernsey? Perhaps there is some sort of secret homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers.” January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb….

As Juliet and her new correspondent exchange letters, Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends—and what a wonderfully eccentric world it is. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society—born as a spur-of-the-moment alibi when its members were discovered breaking curfew by the Germans occupying their island—boasts a charming, funny, deeply human cast of characters, from pig farmers to phrenologists, literature lovers all.

Juliet begins a remarkable correspondence with the society’s members, learning about their island, their taste in books, and the impact the recent German occupation has had on their lives. Captivated by their stories, she sets sail for Guernsey, and what she finds will change her forever.

Written with warmth and humor as a series of letters, this novel is a celebration of the written word in all its guises, and of finding connection in the most surprising ways.

ETA:

Book Dark WitchDark Witch, the first newest trilogy by Nora Roberts, is down to $2.99 at Amazon right now? This is a brand new trilogy, not a reprint, and is a paranormal – or, as I call them, a ParaNora. The next book in the Cousins O'Dwyer Trilogy, Shadow Spell, comes out in April.

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.

Ireland.

County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations—and where her destiny awaits.

Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives.

When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.

Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself—and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope—and love—alive…

Holy overdeveloped pectorals, Batman! Why is the cover model of Sweet Revenge wearing a shoulder harness without a shirt? Can anyone say chafing?

  3. Ms. M says:

Nope, the price for The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is matched on B&N!

  4. Diana says:

Linda Howard’s book truly made me weepy in the end. It’s not your standard romantic suspense. I think it’s one of her strongest books.

  5. SB Sarah says:

@Ms. M: YAY! I love when that happens.

@Diana: when I was tweeting about the books on sale, so many people said they cried buckets reading “Cry No More” and recommend it as one of her most powerful books. The general consensus was, “OMG THAT BOOK,” quoting Tessa Dare. It’s powerful good and powerful uglycry awaits.

  6. I’m not a fan of every Linda Howard book I’ve read, but Cry No More is a weeper and a keeper. I loved the protagonists and the way the entire story developed. Highly recommended.

  7. Mireille says:

What are the other books on the grief list?
