Books on Sale: Hard Ink, The Girl You Left Behind, and Blitzing Emily

Book Hard as It Gets a Hard Ink Novel - a tattooed arm against a tattoed chest close up with no heads. There are so rarely any heads!

RECOMMENDED BY AMANDA: As Hard As It Gets by Laura Kaye is $1.99. This is book one of the Hard Ink series, which, according to GoodReads is about, “about four ex-soldiers who run a renegade operation against an organized crime ring out of the back of a tattoo shop.” Like you do.

Amanda recommends this title, saying, “I actually just bought this book over the winter break. I took back some Christmas gifts to buy books….”

Trouble just walked into Nicholas Rixey's tattoo parlor. Becca Merritt is warm, sexy, wholesome–pure temptation to a very jaded Nick. He's left his military life behind to become co-owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, but Becca is his ex-commander's daughter.

Loyalty won't let him turn her away. Lust has plenty to do with it too.

With her brother presumed kidnapped, Becca needs Nick. She just wasn't expecting to want him so much. As their investigation turns into all-out war with an organized crime ring, only Nick can protect her. And only Becca can heal the scars no one else sees.

Desire is the easy part. Love is as hard as it gets. Good thing Nick is always up for a challenge…

Book The Girl You Left Behind - no art just giant curly words

The Girl You Left Behind by JoJo Moyes is $2.99 at AMZ and BN. This is a novel with contemporary and historical plotlines, set in part against WWI, and has many, manymany positive reviews behind it. Have you read it?

In 1916, French artist Edouard Lefevre leaves his wife Sophie to fight at the Front. When her town falls into German hands, his portrait of Sophie stirs the heart of the local Kommandant and causes her to risk everything – her family, reputation and life – in the hope of seeing her true love one last time.

Nearly a century later and Sophie's portrait is given to Liv by her young husband shortly before his sudden death. Its beauty speaks of their short life together, but when the painting's dark and passion-torn history is revealed, Liv discovers that the first spark of love she has felt since she lost him is threatened…

In The Girl You Left Behind two young women, separated by a century, are united in their determination to fight for the thing they love most – whatever the cost.

Book Blitzing Emily - a couple embracing while he's holding some roses

Blitzing Emily by Julie Brannagh is $1.99 – I think that might be the standard price, but hey, $2 is $2. This is a contemporary romance between an NFL player and an opera singer, with a pretend engagement started by a concussion – hers, not his. It has a 3.9 average on GR – have you read it?

Emily Hamilton doesn't trust men. She's much more comfortable playing the romantic lead in front of a packed house onstage than in her own life. So when NFL star and alluring ladies' man Brandon McKenna acts as her personal white knight, she has no illusions that he'll stick around.

However, a misunderstanding with the press throws them together in a fake engagement that yields unexpected (and breathtaking) benefits.

Every time Brandon calls her “Sugar,” Emily almost believes he's playing for keeps—not just to score. Can she let down her defenses and get her own happily ever after?

Being in Canada is a mixed blessing for book deals.  On the one hand, my wallet is healthier. On the other hand, I miss out on a number of sales that I would have been interested in. Case in point—the Moyes book is definitely on sale, but it is reduced from a whopping $27 (CDN) (WTF?) to $17 (CDN).  Yes, I save $10, but wow.  Not buying it at that price, given the size of my TBR list already…

  2. I loved The Girl You Left Behind. Totally worth full price but if it’s on sale it’s a steal.

  3. Julie Brannagh says:

I hope everyone has as much fun reading BLITZING EMILY as I did writing it!

  4. Jody says:

Oh, my—The Girl You Left Behind is just brilliant.  It’s been a long time since I’ve finished a book saying, Oh, wow; oh, wow; oh, WOW!”  It’s well worth the full price, but a no brainer on sale.

I’d never heard of the author, but just downloaded all the samples available in hopes of finding another book that’s as good as The Girl.

Patricia, you had me at “football player” and “opera singer”. I can’t wait to read it!

I’m I only the only person who takes a while to figure out whose hand is where on covers like As hard as it Gets? It’s like a flesh toned puzzle.

Where exactly would that fit? Seriously, no tattoo shop I’ve ever been in has had room for that nonsense. And now I’m envisioning the artists using bullet casings as inkwells. Because my brain works that way, apparently.
