Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: Forget Secret Viscount Cowboys, We Seek a Secretly Royal Housekeeper

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

It's HaBO Time, the feature where readers recall many excellent details, but not the title or author. Ready to Help a Bitch Out?

This one is from Lillian, and dude, I kind of want to read this:

I read this book probably five years ago and I have not been able to get it out of my mind. The plot has everything in it. The heroine is a foreign housekeeper who escaped her war-torn country several years prior to the start of the book. She and her fiancé were in an explosion, and he died. I want to say that afterward she was sexually assaulted in the hospital, but I may only be remembering that because I watched Kill Bill around that time.

She’s been working for the hero for several years when her visa runs out, and he offers to marry her (because she’s such a great employee?) so she can get citizenship. The hero has a (potential?) girlfriend who is very jealous and calls INS because she believes it’s a fake marriage.

The INS lady shows up shortly after they have sex for the first time and believes it’s a real marriage. Here’s where it gets weird. It turns out she’s some kind of royalty that was put in hiding in her home country. Somehow the hero and heroine find this out and he realizes she doesn’t need him anymore, even though he loves her.

They separate for a time and then end up back together. I have been thinking of this book for years, thank you in advance!

Do you recognize this book? Is it a Presents gone wild? I don't recall any sexual violence in the Presents line, though. Seriously, though, I kind of want to read this.

I have read this book, but I can’t remember the title! $#$%$ It’s going to drive me bonkers trying to remember!

I’m guessing it’s Valentine Bride by Christine Rimmer.

Yes, Sally! That is it! Oh my god, I’ve looked for this for so long, thank you!

Aargh.  Can we PLEASE lay to rest the “getting married for a green card” myth?  It doesn’t necessarily work.  Generally the “touch-back” rule applies for the spouse.  And if an EMPLOYER wants to keep somebody, it’s a lot simpler to get a WORK visa on the grounds someone has special skills.  Now what would be a cool and interesting plot would be if the heroine was forced to do a “touch-back” in her home country before having her visa extended, and freaked out about returning to a war-torn place where she was traumatized, etc. etc. and the hero offered to accompany her to make her feel more secure, and then adventures ensued.  I’d read that.

If you happen to have a pool, then feel free to add that into the festivities. Sewing would appear to be better than gluing when it comes to the longevity of the shirt.
