Books on Sale: Historicals, Contemporary Small Town Romance, and Sarcastic Sparkleponies

Book Holly Lane

Holly Lane by Toni Blake is $1.99 right now. This is book 4 in her Destiny series, which mixes small town romance with quite a bit of sexual heat and unique issues for the characters. This book focuses on Sue Ann, and is a friends-to-lovers/ex's best friend story.

The weather outside is frightful, but kisses by the fire are so delightful …

Sue Ann Simpkins is working hard to rebuild her life and find some holiday spirit. A weekend away from Destiny in a cabin on nearby Bear Lake seems like the perfect Christmas gift to herself—until her ex's best friend, Adam Becker, shows up at the door, claiming the cabin is his! And if that's not trouble enough, how had she never noticed how gorgeous he was?

Alone for the holidays and forced to play a reindeer at the local department store, Adam's been feeling rather Scrooge-ish himself. But finding the smart, sexy woman he's admired since elementary school waiting in the house he rented is helping to brighten his humbug mood. And when a sudden snowstorm strands them together in very close quarters, leading to one very hot night together, Adam soon realizes that what he really wants for Christmas is a second chance at love. Now all he has to do is convince Sue Ann…

Book The Wicked Wallflower

The Wicked Wallflower by Maya Rodale, is $3.99 right now, about 33% off. It's also coupon eligible so you can add to that discount if you have a coupon for the retailer you use. This is a historical romance that's part of Rodale's “Bad Boys & Wallflowers” series. The hero and heroine have a pretend engagement, and you know those always work out the way the characters intend.

Lady Emma Avery has accidentally announced her engagement—to the most eligible man in England. As soon as it's discovered that Emma has never actually met the infamously attractive Duke of Ashbrooke, she'll no longer be a wallflower; she'll be a laughingstock. And then Ashbrooke does something Emma never expected. He plays along with her charade.

A temporary betrothal to the irreproachable Lady Avery could be just the thing to repair Ashbrooke's tattered reputation. Seducing her is simply a bonus. And then Emma does what he never expected: she refuses his advances. It's unprecedented. Inconceivable. Quite damnably alluring.

London's Least Likely to Misbehave has aroused the curiosity—among other things—of London's most notorious rogue. Now nothing will suffice but to uncover Emma's wanton side and prove there's nothing so satisfying as two perfect strangers…being perfectly scandalous together.

Book Through the Smoke

Through the Smoke by Brenda Novak is $1.99 as a KDD. This is a Montlake book, so the book is not likely to be available digitally at other retailers. Some reviewers disliked the hero and heroine so much that they couldn't finish, but more readers adored this book. It has a 4+ star average at GR, and many compliments as to the uniqueness of the plot and the complexity of the characters.

A shocking betrayal…

Riches. Power. An ancient heritage of pride. The Earl of Druridge wanted only for an heir. So when he learned that his wife was carrying another man’s child, he was filled with a thirst for vengeance.

But he wasn’t the one who caused Katherine’s death. Or was he? To his horror, he remembers nothing of that dreadful night, when their last confrontation ended in scorching flame and cold blood.

A forbidden love…

Rachel McTavish, the beautiful daughter of a coal miner, knows something about the fire that took Lady Katherine’s life. In secret, the strong-willed girl strikes a bargain with the desperate earl: he must send his physician to help her dying mother or he may go to the devil—and the scaffold. He agrees, but she is still unsure that her revelation will be enough to save him when so many wish him dead.

Passionately drawn to the nobleman, despite all the doubt and mystery that shrouds him, Rachel wonders if he can really be a murderer. Or if he is the only man who will ever own her heart…

Book The Look of Love

The Look of Love by Bella Andre is the Audible daily deal today at $2.95. This is book 1 of her much-loved and very successful Sullivans series, and is nearly 7 hours unabridged. It's performed by Eva Kaminsky.

With THE LOOK OF LOVE, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Bella Andre introduces you to the fun and emotional contemporary romance series about the Sullivan family. Chloe Peterson is having a bad night. A really bad night. The large bruise on her cheek can attest to that. And when her car skids off the side of a wet country road straight into a ditch, she’s convinced even the gorgeous guy who rescues her in the middle of the rain storm must be too good to be true. Or is he?

As a successful photographer who frequently travels around the world, Chase Sullivan has his pick of beautiful women, and whenever he’s home in San Francisco, one of his seven siblings is usually up for causing a little fun trouble. Chase thinks his life is great just as it is—until the night he finds Chloe and her totaled car on the side of the road in Napa Valley. Not only has he never met anyone so lovely, both inside and out, but he quickly realizes she has much bigger problems than her damaged car. Soon, he is willing to move mountains to love—and protect—her, but will she let him?

Chloe vows never to make the mistake of trusting a man again. Only, with every loving look Chase gives her—and every sinfully sweet caress—as the attraction between them sparks and sizzles, she can’t help but wonder if she’s met the only exception. And although Chase didn’t realize his life was going to change forever in an instant, amazingly, he isn’t the least bit interested in fighting that change. Instead, he’s gearing up for a different fight altogether…for Chloe’s heart.

Book Beautifully Unique Sparkleponies

Despite having broken up with football, I follow Chris Kluwe, former NFL kicker for the Vikings and most recently the Raiders, on Twitter, because he's hilarious and thought-provoking and clever and smart, which is pretty much the ideal combination for me on Twitter.

His book, Beautifully Unique Sparkleponies, is a KDD today at $2.99. I bought the hell out of this book for myself and for a bunch of other people (and when I did, I was offered the audiobook for $4.99, which I totally bought, too. SOon I'll be hunched over on the sidewalk laughing while I try to walk my dogs.). This is a memoir/humor book/collection of essays about the things Kluwe is passionate about, including marriage equality, diminishing the effects of douchebags, and being hilarious .

Hi. In your hands, right now, you hold the culmination of thousands of years of human intelligence, ingenuity, and brilliance. Now put your goddamn phone down and pay attention to my book.

What is in my book, you ask? (I'm really glad you asked, by the way, because now I get to tell you.)

Time travel. Gay marriage. Sportsballing. Futuristic goggles that DO NOTHING.

Tiny brags from my publisher, stuff like: “This is an uproarious, uncensored take on empathy, personal responsibility, and what it means to be human.”

Excessive brags about myself: “An extraordinarily clever, punishingly funny, sharp-tongued blogosphere star, NFL player, husband and father, one-time violin prodigy, voracious lifetime reader, obsessive gamer, and fearless champion of personal freedom.”

Oh, and also an essay on the Pope's Twitter account. Honestly, if that doesn't draw you in, there's no hope left for humanity. I also give my own funeral eulogy, in case you were hoping I'd go away and die now!

So please, join me in the glorious art of windmill tilting by reading this “collection of rousing, uncensored personal essays, letters, and stories” (I have no idea why that's in quotes).

Join the herd of Beautifully Unique Sparkleponies.

(You know you want to.)

  1. Jewel says:

Friends-to-lovers is my catnip, so thanks for the tip on Holly Lane.

And OMG I LOVE CHRIS KLUWE!!! Just bought this for me and my hubby.

    Thanks Sarah!

  2. CelineB says:

I loved Wicked Wallflower but it has a lot of historical inaccuracies like the hero and heroine traveling alone in the same carriage and then staying in adjoining rooms at an inn with no chaperone to be found. I was able to enjoy the story, writing and characters despite those inaccuracies but some might not be able to overlook them.

  3. Lindsay says:

Sparkleponies is FANTASTIC, it’s a steal at this price. Buy it for EVERYONE.

Also, the Holly Lane had me at “snowbound”. It’s one of my biggest weaknesses.

  4. LaineyT says:

LOL…I don’t really follow football and therefore had no clue who Chris Kluwe is, but based on the title alone my interested was piqued.  You may just have helped me with some Christmas shopping.  Thank you so much!
