Books on Sale: George Carlin Wants to Read to You, Plus Suspense, Paranormal and Free Hot Nerds

Book George Carlin Reads to You

George Carlin Reads to You is the Audible audiobook of the day, and if you like comedy and like the late George Carlin, this is 7+ hours of Carlin reading to you from some of his books, for $2.95. There is a 95% chance that on a future walk with my dogs, I'll be bent over laughing until tears drip off my chin.

If one George Carlin audio is funny, then two are funnier and three must be funniest, right? That's our thinking behind this new collection. It's a HighBridge library of laugh-out-loud, award-winning recordings featuring George himself performing many of his best bits. The set includes:

Brain Droppings
Acerbic observations, manic musings, in-your-face questions, witty word play, and more “droppings” from Carlin's singular brain. “I put a dollar in a change machine. Nothing changed.” “Why are there no recreational drugs taken in suppository form?” The first Carlin book on audio and a 2001 Grammy winner.

Napalm & Silly Putty
Carlin invents Past-Tense TV (Got Smart, Father Knew Best, It Was Left to Beaver); crusades for the Center for Research into the Heebie Jeebies; founds the George Carlin Book Club (recommended reading: Fill Your Life with Croutons); and suggests that “If the shoe fits, get another just like it.” A 2002 Grammy winner.

More Napalm & Silly Putty
Everything that wouldn't fit on the first Napalm recording – like “A Day in the Life of Henry VIII”, “Sports Should Be Fixed”, compelling confessions (“I couldn't commit suicide if my life depended on it”), and candid takes on life's little moments (“I'm beyond the nice day”), all delivered with wicked glee.

Book The Girl who Disappeared Twice

RECOMMENDED: The Girl who Disappeared Twice by Andrea Kane is .99c at most vendors – for some reason BN isn't on board with this one. Elyse reviewed this book (B+) earlier this year and said:

If you like shows like NCIS and Criminal Minds, you’ll probably really like this book. The Girl Who Disappeared Twice has an ensemble cast, each an expert in their own respective field, and each needed to solve the mystery and rescue a little girl.

Despite all her years determining the fates of families, judge Hope Willis couldn't save her own. Her daughter taken, she's frantically grasping at any hope for Krissy's return. Her husband dead-set against it, Hope calls a team not bound by the legal system.

Forensic Instincts: a behaviorist. A techno-wizard. An intuitive. An ex-Navy SEAL. Unconventional operatives. All with unique talents and personal reasons for joining Casey Woods's group, they'll do whatever it takes.

Able to accurately read people after the briefest of encounters, Casey picks up in the Willis household signs of a nervous spouse, a guilty conscience, a nanny that hides on her phone. Secrets beg to creep into the open.

Forensic Instincts will dig through each tiny clue and eliminate the clutter, working around the clock. But time is running out, and Casey's team knows that the difference between getting Krissy back and her disappearing forever could be as small as a suspect's rapid breathing, or as deep as Hope's dark family history.

Book The Theory of Attraction

RECOMMENDED: The Theory of Attraction by Delphine Dryden is FREE CHEEZY BREAD FREE right now. I didn't review this book (I could have sworn I did – what the hell?) but I really, REALLY liked it. I'm really finicky when it comes to erotic romance, especially romance with BDSM, and I thought this story was an excellent blend of erotic tension and character development. Plus the hero is really fascinating. This is a terrific free read – I hope you'll give it a try.

And yes, the cover is really weird and looks like he's going down on someone whose leg grew out of her ribcage.

Camilla can set her watch by her hunky rocket-scientist neighbor who jogs past her window each day. She relishes each glimpse of his shirtless abs, and is dying to see more. But it's hard to connect with a man who doesn't seem to know she exists…

Ivan feels at home in the lab, not in social situations. When he finally approaches his attractive neighbor, it's not for a date—he wants tutoring in how to behave at an important fundraiser. Ivan doesn't expect the chemistry between them to be quite so explosive, and is surprised when Cami actually accepts his proposal to embark on a series of “lessons.”

Cami soon discovers Ivan's schedule isn't the only thing he likes to be strict about—he needs to be charge in the bedroom as well. She's shocked at how much she comes to enjoy her submissive side, but wonders if a real relationship is in the equation…

Book Grave Intentions

Grave Intentions by Lori Sjoberg is $1.99 right now. This is the first book in her paranormal/urban fantasy Grave series, and has a 3.8 average on GR.  This looks seriously tempting – have you read it?

He’s handsome, reliable, and punctual—the perfect gentleman when you want him to be. But this dream man is Death’s best agent—and now he’s got more than his soul to lose…

One act of mercy before dying was all it took to turn soldier David Anderson into a reaper—an immortal who guides souls-of-untimely-death into the afterlife. But the closer he gets to atoning for his mortal sin and finally escaping merciless Fate, the more he feels his own humanity slipping away for good.

Until he encounters Sarah Griffith. This skeptical scientist can’t be influenced by his powers—even though she has an unsuspected talent for sensing the dead. And her honesty and irreverent sense of humor reignite his reason for living—and a passion he can’t afford to feel. Now Fate has summoned David to make a devastating last harvest. And he’ll break every hellishly-strict netherworld rule to save Sarah…and gamble on a choice even an immortal can’t win.
